Got my Identity Verification letter & completed it, but transcript still showing nothing. Filed March 5th, how long until movement?

Just received my Identity Verification letter with control number after waiting almost 3 weeks. Completed the verification right away and now the "Verify Return" alert on the IRS website has disappeared (thank goodness). My question is - how long should I expect to wait before seeing any updates or codes on my transcript? Mine is still completely empty with no information. I filed and got acceptance confirmation on March 5th.

Tax professional here. After successfully completing identity verification, you can typically expect to see transcript updates within 9 weeks, though many see movement much sooner. The IRS is currently processing returns from early March, so your timing isn't unusual. What you should look for next on your transcript: - Code 150 (tax return filed) - Code 570 (holds) or 971 (notice issued) if there are any issues - Code 768 (earned income credit) if applicable - Code 846 (refund issued) - this is what you're ultimately waiting for Identity verification adds extra processing time, but the good news is that the "Verify Return" notice disappearing means you've cleared that hurdle. I recommend checking your transcript weekly rather than daily as IRS batch processing happens on specific intervals.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! It's helpful to know what codes I should be looking for. I'll try to be patient and check once a week. Do you think I should call them if nothing changes in the next month?

You're welcome! I wouldn't recommend calling unless you reach the 9-week mark with no updates. The phone lines are extremely overloaded, and representatives often can't provide much more information than what's on your transcript. If you do need to call after 9 weeks, try early morning (7am ET) on Tuesday or Wednesday for shortest wait times.

This explains so much! I've been wondering why I haven't seen any movement despte verifying my identity weeks ago. Feels like forever when ur waiting for your money 😩

Honestly, the best thing i did was use taxr.ai to actually understand what was going on with my transcript. Trying to decipher all those codes and dates was driving me crazy, but this tool broke everything down and told me exactly what stage my return was in and what was happening. Way better than trying to piece together info from random forum posts or playing detective on the IRS website. Check it out: https://taxr.ai - it saved me hours of stress!

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It basically analyzes your entire transcript and translates all the IRS jargon into plain english. Gives you a timeline of everything that's happened, explains each code, and even predicts next steps. It also identifies issues that might be holding things up. I was in the same boat as OP - verified my identity and then nothing was happening. Taxr showed me exactly why and what to expect next.

OMG I JUST TRIED THIS AND IT'S AMAZING!!! I've been completely in the dark about my refund for weeks and this finally explained everything. It showed me exactly why my refund is delayed and when I'll likely get paid. Seriously everyone dealing with the IRS needs this tool! Best thing I've found all year 💯

I was in a similar situation and got tired of waiting with no updates. Finally used claimyr.com to get through to an actual human at the IRS. Saved me hours of being on hold and explaining my issue to an actual agent got things moving within days. The agent told me my return was sitting in a queue waiting for manual review after identity verification. After they manually approved it, I had an 846 code on my transcript within 48 hours. Worth every penny considering how much I was waiting on.

How does that even work? The IRS phone lines are impossible.

They basically use an automated system to stay on hold for you and then call you when they get an agent on the line. The IRS calls are literally impossible to get through otherwise - I tried for 3 days straight before finding this service.

seems sketchy...do they actually get you to a real agent tho?

100% got me to a real agent. I was skeptical too but I was desperate since I needed my refund for some urgent bills. The IRS agent I spoke with was super helpful and literally resolved my issue on the call. My refund was released 2 days later.

Damn might have to try this then. Been waiting since February with no movement 😭

Mine took about 3 weeks after verification to see any movement. Then suddenly one day all the codes appeared at once and got my DD exactly 6 days later. Just be patient, the system is working but its slow af.

I'm in the exact same boat except I verified a week ago. Still nothing on transcripts and WMR still says "Your tax return is still being processed." Starting to get worried cause I need that money for car repairs. Let me know if you see any movement!

Will do! Hope you see movement soon. This waiting game is the worst.

This happened to me last year. After verification it took about 4 weeks to see any codes on transcript, then another 2 weeks to get my refund. The system is backed up this year from what I've heard so might take a bit longer. Don't stress yet.

The IRS is a complete joke. They can take our money instantly but when it comes to giving refunds suddenly everything moves at snails pace. And dont even get me started on the terrible website that looks like it was built in 1997.

Seriously!! And how is their system so terrible that they have to verify so many people's identities?? I've filed taxes for 12 years, same job, same address, but suddenly they cant tell who I am? 🤡🤡

EXACTLY! But watch how fast they would come after you if you owed them money lmao. System is rigged against us regular people.

To be fair they're severely underfunded. My cousin works for the IRS and says they're literally using computers from the 80s for some systems. But yeah the double standard of collections vs refunds is real.

I verified my ID on April 2nd and got codes on transcript April 19th. Refund hit my account April 23rd. So about 3 weeks total from verification to money.

Im a tax preparer and see this all the time. Usually takes 2-6 weeks after verification for transcripts to update. But if you filed with earned income tax credit (EITC) or child tax credit (CTC) expect it to take longer. The IRS prioritizes basic returns with no credits first.

I do have EITC on my return so that's probably part of the delay. Thanks for the insight!

When I had to verify last year, I used taxr.ai to keep track of everything. It was actually incredible - showed me exactly what stage my return was in and explained all the codes when they finally appeared. Saved me so much stress from constantly checking the IRS site and trying to interpret everything myself. https://taxr.ai

No just sharing something that helped me. Feel free to ignore. Dealing with the IRS was hell last year and I wish I had known about this sooner.

I just checked it out and its actually pretty helpful. Shows you a prediction of refund date based on your transcript and explains all the codes in normal human language.

Quick tip - try checking your transcript late night Tuesday or early Wednesday morning. That's when the most updates happen in the system. At least that's when mine always updated during my verification saga last year.

For me it was almost exacty 8 weeks from identity verification to refund. The most frustrating weeks of my life tbh. Keep checking once a week, but dont make yourself crazy checking daily like I did.

8 weeks?? 😭 That's so long. But thanks for sharing your experience. I'll try not to check obsessively.

If u want real help and not just guesses, I used claimyr.com after waiting 2 months post-verification with no movement. Got thru to an IRS agent who found my return was stuck in some random error department. They fixed it on the spot and my refund was processed the next week. Talking to an actual IRS agent made all the difference.

How much does that service cost? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay just to talk to the IRS about our own money

I agree we shouldn't have to pay but its worth it when ur desperate. I spent over 10 hours trying to call myself with no luck. The service got me through in under an hour. Considering I was waiting on a $4700 refund, it was the best money I've ever spent.

I verified Feb 10 and didn't see transcript movement until March 15. Its a waiting game unfortunately.
