Identity Verification Delay - System Shows Different Verification Date Than Actual
According to IRS Publication 1345 section 5.9.1, identity verification should be processed within 7 business days. I completed my initial verification via telephone on 03/13/2024 as required by the IRS notice CP01E. When the follow-up letter arrived on 3/22 with the control number, I verified again through the official IRS.gov portal per instructions in section 4.2 of Form 14039 guidelines. The verification notification disappeared from my account as expected. However, I called today to check my status since my transcript remains unavailable and WMR shows no movement. The representative (very helpful, I must say) informed me their system shows I was only verified on 3/27/2024 - despite my completing the process much earlier! This discrepancy seems to have reset my processing timeline completely. Per IRS procedural guidelines, I should expect updates within a week from 3/27, which would be this Saturday. Has anyone else experienced this kind of system delay with verification dates? I'm running behind on my quarterly estimated payments and need this resolved ASAP.

I went through something similar last month. Here's what happened: Step 1: I verified by phone first on 2/20 Step 2: Got the letter about a week later Step 3: Verified online with the control number Step 4: The banner disappeared from my account Step 5: Called after 10 days of no updates Step 6: Found out my verification date in their system was different too It took exactly 9 days from what they considered my "official" verification date to see transcript updates. I think their internal systems don't sync properly between the phone verification and the online one. I'd check again early next week if I were you... I'm sorry you're dealing with this too.

Have you accessed your Account Transcript rather than just your Return Transcript? The Account Transcript often updates first with Transaction Code 971 followed by TC 570 during the verification process. The IRS Identity Verification Protocol (IVP) typically creates a processing delay of 9-21 days from the system-recorded verification date, not your actual completion date. What's your filing status and did you claim any refundable credits that might trigger additional verification?

Ugh, the IRS and their mysterious date-tracking system... it's like they use a calendar from another dimension! 😂 I was stuck in verification purgatory for THREE WEEKS last year. Finally broke down and used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) to actually reach a human at the IRS. Worth every penny because I was about to miss a payment on my kid's braces. They got me connected to an agent in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days. The agent was able to manually push my verification through the system. Saved me from financial disaster AND a teenager with messed up teeth!

I'm skeptical about these services. On March 12th I called the IRS directly and got through after 45 minutes. On March 18th I tried again and waited 1 hour 20 minutes. Does Claimyr actually do anything the average person can't do themselves with enough persistence? The IRS phone system is frustrating but eventually works if you call at the right time.

Did you have to provide any personal information to Claimyr? How exactly does their service work? Would you say it's worth it for someone who has already spent hours trying to get through on their own?

OMG I USED THEM TOO AND IT WAS AMAZING!! I was literally crying with frustration after trying for THREE DAYS to reach someone! Called during "low volume hours" like everyone suggests - still nothing! Used Claimyr and had an agent on the line in 22 minutes! They confirmed my identity verification was complete but hadn't been properly recorded. The agent manually updated it while I was on the phone and my transcript updated two days later. Best money I've spent this year honestly!

Had the same issue. Called February 18th. Verified. Called again March 2nd. Different date in system. Frustrating process. Finally got my refund March 15th. Keep checking daily. System is backlogged. Don't give up.

This verification date discrepancy is like when your GPS says you've arrived but you're still three blocks away from your destination. I was caught in this same loop last month and found https://taxr.ai incredibly helpful for decoding my transcript once it finally appeared. It's like having an IRS decoder ring - it explained every code and notice, showed me exactly where my return was in the process, and even predicted when my refund would hit my account. Think of it as a translator for that cryptic IRS language that makes no sense to normal humans!

The IRS identity verification system has been plagued with synchronization issues since they upgraded their infrastructure in 2022. I experienced this exact scenario last year with a client's return. The phone verification doesn't properly update in their master file until the online verification is complete, but even then, their internal date tracking is inconsistent. In my experience with over 50 client verifications, the average processing time post-verification (using their system date) has been 9 business days. I'd recommend calling again next Wednesday if you don't see movement, as their weekend processing can sometimes create additional delays.
