Timeline After In-Person ID Verification - System Still Shows 'Verify Now'

I filed on February 1st, 2024 (exactly 42 days ago) and my IRS account has been showing the 'verify info now' message. Despite this, I never received a verification letter, and when I called, the representative confirmed their system doesn't show any letter being generated or mailed out. I proceeded with in-person ID verification last Thursday (March 7th). However, my IRS account is still displaying the 'verify info now' message. Can anyone share how long it took for their account to update after completing in-person verification? For reference, I'm on the weekly processing cycle. Filed 2/1, verified in person 3/7. I'm being careful with my expectations given my recent divorce has complicated my filing status this year.

When I went through this exact situation last year, it took exactly 9 days for my account to update after in-person verification. The 'verify now' message hung around for about a week, then suddenly disappeared. My refund was deposited 11 days after that. It was such a relief when the system finally acknowledged I'd verified! The weekly cycle definitely affects timing - mine updated on a Wednesday night.

Thanks for sharing your timeline. This helps set realistic expectations. ā€¢ System updates seem to take 7-9 days after verification ā€¢ Weekly cycle updates typically happen mid-week ā€¢ Full processing after verification appears to be 2-3 weeks I'll mark my calendar accordingly.

I had a similar experience but with a slight twist. My account updated after 8 days but my transcript actually updated first. If you have access to your transcript, check that daily too. Mine showed a 971 code (notice issued) followed by a 571 code (resolved issue) before the website message disappeared. The system isn't always in sync with itself.

Def call the ID verify dept directly at 800-830-5084 to confirm they got ur in-person verify. Sometimes the field offices don't transmit the info right away. Happened to me last yr. Called and they manually updated my acct while I was on the phone. Refund came 14 days later. Don't just wait for the system to catch up.

I didn't even know there was a specific ID verify department number! I've been calling the main IRS line and waiting forever. Could you explain what information I should have ready when I call this number? And do they have specific hours? I'm impressed you found such a direct solution.

I was in the same boat as you last month - verified in person but the message wouldn't go away. Compared to my experience with the DMV where updates are instant, the IRS systems seem to operate in different time zones! After waiting on hold for 3+ hours trying to confirm my verification was recorded properly, I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my verification was in the system despite the website not updating. The agent said it typically takes 7-21 days for all systems to sync up after verification. Really appreciated not having to waste an entire day on hold.

Mine took 14 days. Message stayed up the whole time. System updated overnight. Refund came 9 days later. Weekly cycle too. Don't stress about the message. Backend processing happens regardless. Website lags behind internal systems. Normal procedure.

You should check your tax transcript instead of relying on the account message. The account message often doesn't update even after verification is processed. Look for transaction code 971 followed by 571 on your transcript - that's the verification being marked as resolved. Most people see movement within 9-14 days after in-person verification. If you're on the weekly cycle, expect updates on Thursday/Friday when your cycle posts.

I went through this in February! The IRS verification system is like watching paint dry while the house is on fire. I verified in-person on 2/8, and my account STILL showed the verification message until 2/22. Then it suddenly disappeared like magic. My refund showed up 5 days later. The weird part was that when I called, they confirmed my verification was processed on 2/10, but the website took another 12 days to catch up. It's like their computer systems communicate via carrier pigeon.

Have you tried checking your transcripts directly? Sometimes the account message gets stuck in limbo while your actual processing moves forward. I'd recommend looking for the 570 code (hold) and then a 571 code (release) which would indicate they've processed your verification. My message stayed up for 17 days after verifying (talk about anxiety-inducing!) but my transcript showed movement after just 8 days. The IRS really needs to sync their systems better... they're running on technology that was outdated when dinosaurs roamed the earth. šŸ˜‚

I completed in-person Identity Verification on March 3rd last filing season. My account showed the verification message for exactly 11 days afterward. The Cycle Code on my transcript was 20230905, indicating I was on the weekly processing schedule. The verification status in the internal IRS systems updated before the portal did - when I called the Taxpayer Protection Program line at day 10, they confirmed verification was complete despite the website message. Direct deposit hit my account on day 19 after verification. The system isn't real-time - there's significant lag between internal updates and what we see.
