How long after ID verification until refund is processed?
Just wondering how long it typically takes to get your tax refund after verifying your identity? Last year I had no verification issues and got my refund in 21 days like clockwork. This year they made me verify my identity through ID.me and I completed that process 2 weeks ago. Still nothing showing in my account. Going through this divorce has been expensive enough without the IRS holding onto MY money that I'm legally entitled to. Anyone else dealt with this verification delay?

Have you checked your transcript to see if there's any movement? Or are you just relying on WMR? Wouldn't it make more sense to look at the actual data rather than just the simplified status bar? I was in the same boat last month and found that checking my transcript gave me way more insight than the refund tracker ever did. Once I verified my identity, it took about 3 weeks for my refund to hit my account, but I could see movement on my transcript after about 10 days.

•I've been checking both WMR and transcripts, but my transcripts still show N/A for 2023. Is that normal even after verification? I've seen others who can at least see their transcripts even if the refund isn't processed yet.

•Been through this ID verification mess twice in the past few years. In my experience, transcript updates are wildly inconsistent after verification. First time I had to verify, my transcript updated within 3 days. Second time, it took nearly 3 weeks before anything showed up. The IRS claims 9 weeks is their "processing time" after verification, but I've rarely seen it take that long unless there are other issues.

What filing status did you use this year? If you filed as head of household for the first time after being married filing jointly last year, that often triggers verification and additional review.

Thanks for asking! I filed Head of Household since the divorce was finalized in November. I'm claiming our daughter as she lives with me primarily. I've already: • Completed ID.me verification on March 10th • Received confirmation email that verification was successful • Called IRS once but couldn't get through • Checked transcript daily (still shows N/A) • Checked WMR daily (still on first bar) I'm really hoping this doesn't take the full 9 weeks they mention!

•I just read on the IRS website that the change in filing status combined with claiming a dependent is exactly what triggers these reviews. Makes sense now why you're being asked to verify - they're making sure your ex isn't also claiming your daughter.

•The 9-week timeframe they quote is definitely a worst-case scenario. I had a 4883C letter requiring verification last month and my cycle time from verification to DD was 17 days. The HOH status change is definitely what triggered it.

•I waited exactly 23 days after ID verification before my refund was approved, and then another 5 days for the direct deposit to hit my account. Does anyone know if that's typical or did I just get lucky with the timing?

After identity verification, here's what typically happens: Step 1: Your verification is processed (1-3 business days) Step 2: Your return enters the regular processing queue (5-21 days) Step 3: Refund is approved and scheduled for deposit (1-3 days) The total timeframe can be anywhere from 7-30 days, though the IRS quotes up to 9 weeks to cover all possibilities. If you're tired of waiting and want a definitive answer, I'd recommend using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes when I was in your situation last month. The agent was able to tell me exactly where my return was in the process and gave me a much more specific timeframe.

Has anyone here actually received their refund in less than 4 weeks after verification? I verified my identity on February 28th and I'm still waiting. The whole "up to 9 weeks" thing is making me nervous because I need this money for car repairs.

I went through identity verification on March 2nd and received my refund on March 27th, so almost exactly 3.5 weeks for me. The transcript updated about 5 days before the deposit hit my account. Did you receive any other notices after completing the verification? Sometimes they need additional documentation beyond just the identity verification.

I should probably mention that the timing might also depend on which verification method you used... ID.me tends to process faster than the mail-in verification option. I had to verify through ID.me in early February and it took about 18 days after that for my refund to be approved, then another 5 days for the deposit. So 23 days total from verification to money in my account.

I went through this exact situation last year after my divorce. According to IRM 21.5.6.4.35.3, the normal processing time after identity verification is 9 weeks, but in my experience it was much faster. I verified on February 10, 2023, and received my refund on March 8, 2023 - so about 3.5 weeks. The most frustrating part was that there was absolutely no update on WMR or in my transcript until 3 days before the deposit hit my account. It was like nothing was happening and then suddenly everything updated at once.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Completed my ID.me verification on March 12th after being asked to verify due to filing Head of Household for the first time (also went through a divorce last year). It's been 2 weeks and still showing the first bar on WMR with no transcript updates. The waiting is honestly the worst part - especially when you're dealing with divorce expenses and really need that money. From what I'm reading here, it sounds like 3-4 weeks is pretty typical, so hopefully we'll both see movement soon. Has anyone had luck calling the Taxpayer Advocate Service if it goes beyond the normal timeframe?

•I'm in a very similar situation! Filed HOH for the first time after my divorce was finalized in December. Completed ID.me verification on March 8th and it's been 17 days with no updates on WMR or transcripts. The financial stress from the divorce makes this waiting even harder. From what everyone is sharing here, it sounds like we're still within the normal 3-4 week window, but the lack of any updates is nerve-wracking. I haven't tried the Taxpayer Advocate Service yet, but I've heard they can be helpful if it goes beyond 30 days from verification. Hopefully we'll both see some movement in our accounts soon!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Just completed my ID.me verification on March 15th after they flagged my return for identity verification. Like many of you, I'm also filing Head of Household for the first time due to a recent divorce (finalized in January). It's been 10 days now and still stuck on the first bar of WMR with transcripts showing N/A. The waiting is absolutely brutal, especially when you're already dealing with divorce-related financial stress. Reading through everyone's experiences here is actually really reassuring - it sounds like 3-4 weeks is pretty normal, and most people seem to get their refunds well before that 9-week maximum the IRS quotes. I'm trying to stay patient, but checking WMR multiple times a day has become an obsession! Has anyone noticed if there's a particular day of the week when updates typically happen, or is it pretty random?
