Verification Notice Timeline - How Long Does IRS Income/Identity Verification Actually Take?

I just got a notice to verify my identity and income from the IRS. Anyone know how long this verification process usually takes? Really need my refund and getting anxious about the wait time. Already uploaded my documents through id.me last week.

The verification process typically takes 9 weeks from the date you submit all required documentation. However, during high-volume periods or if there are any discrepancies, it could take longer. Make sure you've responded to ALL items they're requesting verification for, as missing even one document will delay the entire process.

9 weeks?! 😭 thats crazy long... do they ever process faster?

Sometimes it can be faster, but dont count on it. The IRS is still catching up from the pandemic backlog

Just want to mention something that saved me tons of headache - I used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it showed me exactly what was happening with my verification and predicted when it would be done. Only cost $1 and was way more helpful than calling the IRS. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Is this legit? How does it work?

Yeah its totally legit! You upload your transcript and their AI breaks down everything - tells you about delays, verification status, and even gives specific dates for refund. Way better than trying to decode transcript codes yourself

Just tried it and OMG thank you!!! 🙏 Finally understand whats actually happening with my return

I verified back in February and got my refund exactly 8 weeks later. Just hang in there!

Pro tip: keep checking your transcript weekly. You'll see updates there before anywhere else

mine took 11 weeks but I had to verify both identity AND income. depends what they're asking you to verify tbh

I went through this exact same process last year! For me, it took about 10 weeks total from when I submitted everything through ID.me. The key thing is making sure you uploaded ALL the documents they requested - I made the mistake of only uploading my W-2 initially and had to resubmit with my bank statements too, which reset the clock. Also, don't rely on Where's My Refund for updates - it barely changes. Your transcript will show movement first with cycle dates and processing codes. Stay patient, it's frustrating but they do eventually get through it!

Thanks for sharing your experience! 10 weeks is rough but good to know about the documents thing - I think I uploaded everything but now I'm second-guessing myself 😅 Did you get any confirmation that they received your resubmission or did you just have to wait and hope?
