Verified Identity with IRS - Transcript Still Blank After a Week?
UPDATE: I called, she asked me a bunch of questions (I feel like I verified by phone too now). She said it would take up to 9 weeks and WMR should reflect 2-3 weeks from verifying. Hi, I had to verify my identity last Saturday through the IRS website. My transcript is still blank and says 'as of 4/10' which it has said since March. Transcript shows no return filed and Where's My Refund shows nothing too. Isn't it supposed to update faster than this? I've been through verification before in 2022 and it seemed quicker. Anyone else stuck in verification limbo this year? I'm drowning in paperwork trying to figure out what's happening with my return...

I went through identity verification last month and can confirm the timeline they gave you is accurate but frustrating. Based on what I've seen this season, the IRS is taking 6-9 weeks for most verification cases, though some are moving faster. Your 'as of' date on the transcript doesn't actually mean much - mine stayed at 3/04 for weeks after verification before suddenly updating. You need to watch for the 971 code to appear, which indicates correspondence was sent. Time is definitely of the essence here as we're approaching mid-tax season processing backlogs.

So the 'as of' date doesn't really mean anything? I've been refreshing my transcript daily thinking that date would change when they process my verification. Shouldn't there be some kind of indicator that they received my verification at least?

Thank you for explaining the 971 code correlation with correspondence. I've been monitoring my transcript but wasn't aware of the specific codes to look for. The IRS technical documentation is frustratingly vague about post-verification processing timelines, which makes planning financial obligations nearly impossible.

Did your WMR update before your transcript or was it the other way around? I keep checking both and it's like watching paint dry... except the paint might actually be worth something at the end! 😂

I'm in the EXACT same boat and I'm so stressed about it! 😫 I verified on February 28th and my transcript didn't update until April 2nd - that's 34 days of checking multiple times daily! My 'as of' date stayed frozen the entire time. I had every document possible ready - my previous returns, all W-2s, property tax statements, everything - because I was so worried they'd need more verification. When it finally updated, everything processed within 5 days. The technical explanation I received was that verification cases enter a separate processing queue with different update cycles than standard returns.

Try Claimyr. Got me through to an agent fast. No more busy signals. I used it twice this year. Saved hours of redial frustration. Worth every penny. The IRS phone system is impossible otherwise. Agents can see verification status even when transcripts don't update. Link is here: https://claimyr.com. They connect you directly to IRS agents.

I had to verify my identity on March 12th and my transcript stayed completely blank for exactly 27 days. When I finally got through to an agent, they said my verification had been approved 15 days earlier but the system hadn't updated my transcript yet! The agent explained there's a 2-stage verification process: first they verify your identity (usually 2-3 days), then they verify the return itself (3-6 weeks). The transcript and WMR often don't update until both stages are complete.

This happened to me last year too. First, I verified online. Then waited 3 weeks. Nothing happened. Called and verified again by phone on March 15th. Agent confirmed first verification was received but not processed. Second verification cleared on March 29th. Refund deposited April 12th. The whole process took 42 days from first verification to deposit.

Does the two-stage verification process apply to everyone? I verified online last week and I'm wondering if I should call to check if the first stage is complete or if calling would just delay things further?

According to the IRS operations page (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations), they're experiencing significant delays with identity verification processing. I've been through this twice before and it's never taken this long. The website claims 3 weeks for processing after verification, but forum reports and Reddit threads show most people waiting 6-9 weeks this year. I'm worried they're using verification as a way to delay refunds and manage their cash flow. Has anyone noticed how many more people are being asked to verify this year?

It's like they're using verification as a traffic light for refunds - stopping the flow when too many come in at once. My tax preparer said she's had about 30% of her clients need verification this year compared to maybe 5% in previous years. Something definitely changed in their system.

I appreciate this insight about the increased verification requests. I've been cautiously monitoring several tax forums, and the pattern seems consistent with what you're describing. The technical explanation from the IRS representative I spoke with suggested system upgrades were partially responsible for the delays, though they wouldn't elaborate further.

After my identity verification in March, I received my refund exactly 31 days later. The key indicator was the Transaction Code 570 (additional account action pending) followed by TC 571 (resolved additional account action) on my transcript. Many filers don't realize that the verification process has specific codes that indicate progress. Once you see TC 571 followed by TC 846 (refund issued), you're in the final stage. The IRS processing pipeline has specific verification resolution teams that work these cases in batches, typically processing them in 2-week cycles.

I verified my identity on February 23rd, 2024. My transcript showed no updates until March 15th. Refund was issued on March 22nd. The IRS representative I spoke with on March 10th confirmed my verification was approved on February 28th, but it took 15 more days to appear on my transcript. Your experience matches the typical pattern this tax season - verification approval takes 3-5 days internally, but transcript updates take 3-4 weeks, and refund issuance takes another 7-10 days after transcript updates.
