Verification Hold Finally Lifted After Months - WMR Status Changed - When Will I Get My Refund?
Hi everyone, I'm sort of in a complicated situation with my tax return that I filed back in January. I had to verify my identity, which I thought was completed at the end of March, but apparently it wasn't properly noted in the system. After waiting what seemed like forever (probably about 9 weeks or so), I decided to visit my local IRS office. They scheduled a virtual Teams appointment for me, which was somewhat helpful. During that appointment, the representative mentioned that whoever I spoke with previously never actually noted that I verified my identity. He was kind enough to write in the system that I had verified and gave me a verification number to call so they could hopefully lift the hold, since he couldn't do it himself. That appointment was on July 1st. My Where's My Refund tool has always shown "we have received your refund and it is still being processed" until now. I called last Friday, and the representative I spoke with said it was noted that I verified on the 1st and the hold was lifted on the 3rd. She told me to allow another 9 weeks (which seems excessive) but to check WMR in about two weeks. I haven't been checking WMR regularly since it always showed the same message, but yesterday I checked and it finally changed to "we have received your tax return and it's being processed." I'm wondering if this might mean I'll see an update this weekend? Unfortunately, I can't access my transcripts to get more information, so I'm just looking for a little hope here. Has anyone experienced something similar?

This is actually a good sign! When your WMR message changes like that, it typically means your return is moving through the processing pipeline. Here's what's likely happening: Step 1: Your verification hold was removed on July 3rd as confirmed Step 2: Your return entered back into normal processing (this is where you are now) Step 3: The system will assign a refund date (usually within 7-10 days after processing resumes) Step 4: WMR will update with an expected deposit date In my experience, once that message changes from "still being processed" to "being processed" without the "still," you're usually 1-2 weeks away from seeing your refund. The fact that the IRS rep confirmed the hold was lifted is very reassuring too. I'd definitely check WMR this weekend - you might see that final update with a deposit date!

Same thing happened to me this year: • Filed in February • Got stuck in verification • Had to call multiple times • Message finally changed last month • Got my refund exactly 8 days after the message changed The message change is definitely progress. Hang in there.

Is this really that different from the old message though? I've seen people get stuck in the "being processed" status for months too, just like with "still being processed." Seems like these status messages aren't very reliable compared to what you see on transcripts.

Have you considered using a transcript analysis tool to understand what's actually happening behind the scenes? When my verification hold was finally lifted, I couldn't tell what was going on from WMR alone. Isn't it frustrating when you can't access your own tax information easily? I used https://taxr.ai to decode my transcript once I finally got access, and it was incredibly helpful. It explained exactly what each code meant and gave me a much more accurate timeline than the generic WMR tool. Don't you think it's better to have actual data instead of guessing based on vague status messages? The tool showed me precisely when my verification hold was lifted and predicted my deposit date within 2 days of when I actually received it.

Does this actually work if you can't access your transcripts? OP mentioned on July 10th that they can't check their transcripts, so I'm not sure how this would help in their specific situation.

I used taxr.ai when I finally got transcript access after 63 days of waiting. It predicted my deposit date exactly 5 days before the money hit my account. The accuracy was impressive compared to the 21 different answers I got from calling the IRS directly.

It's like having a translator for IRS-speak. You know how when you go to a foreign country and can't understand the language? That's what IRS transcripts are like for most people. This tool is like having a local guide explain everything in plain English.

OMG this is almost exactly what happened to me! Filed in Feb, got stuck in ID verify hell, and then found out nobody had updated my acct after I verified. Once my WMR changed from "still processing" to just "processing" I got my $$ in 9 days. FWIW the transcript update happened about 4 days b4 the WMR change. So ur prob super close! The system is so broken tbh. But that msg change is def a good sign based on my exp and what I've seen in these threads.

Have you tried calling the IRS directly again to get more specific information about your refund timeline? I know you mentioned speaking with them last Friday, but sometimes different representatives can provide different details. When I was in a similar verification hold situation, I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an agent quickly. Instead of spending hours on hold or getting disconnected, I was connected to a live person in about 15 minutes who was able to tell me exactly when my refund would be processed. They could see notes in the system that the regular Where's My Refund tool doesn't show. Have you considered using a service like this to get more specific information about your timeline?

I've heard about these services that help you reach the IRS, but do they really work? I spent over 6 hours on hold last month trying to get through about my verification issue and eventually gave up. Just seems like paying for something that should be free.

I was skeptical too at first, having been through this process several times before. In previous years, I'd set aside entire mornings just to call the IRS, often getting disconnected after waiting for hours. Using Claimyr saved me literally days of frustration. The IRS agent I reached was able to see notes about my case that weren't visible on any of the online tools, which made all the difference in resolving my situation.

The status change you're seeing is a positive development in the Refund Processing Sequence. When the verification hold was lifted on July 3rd, your return entered what's called the Post-Verification Processing Queue. The language change in WMR from "still being processed" to "being processed" indicates your return has cleared the verification hurdle and is now in standard processing. Based on current processing timelines for post-verification returns, you're likely looking at 7-14 calendar days from status change to direct deposit. I understand how frustrating this extended timeline must be for you, especially after already waiting since January. The verification notation issue you experienced is unfortunately quite common this tax season due to staffing constraints at verification centers.

Check your bank account directly. Sometimes the money shows up there before WMR updates. I've seen it happen multiple times. Also try calling the tax advocate service instead of regular IRS customer service. They have more power to help in cases like yours where there's been a significant delay.

This happened to me too. Message changed suddenly. Got my refund exactly one week later. No warning. Just appeared in my account. System is weird this year. Lots of verification issues. But message change is good. You're in the final stretch now. Hang in there.

Was your deposit date accurate on WMR when it finally updated, or did the money just show up? I'm trying to figure out if I should trust the date they're showing me.
