WMR shows "processing delayed" message with Tax Topic 152 after in-person ID verification on 3/15, but transcripts still blank - timeline for refund?
I verified my identity in person at an IRS office on 3/15 and my Where's My Refund (WMR) tool finally updated today. It now shows the delayed processing message with Tax Topic 152. The WMR app shows all three stages - "Return Received," "Refund Approved," and "Refund Sent" - but instead of showing a date for my refund, I'm now seeing this message: "We apologize, but your return processing has been delayed beyond the normal timeframe. You can continue to check back here for the most up to date information regarding your refund. We understand your tax refund is very important and we are working to process your return as quickly as possible." Below that, it says "Please read the following information related to your tax situation: Tax Topic 152, Refund Information" And there's also a note: "Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or visit the Refunds page on IRS.gov. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day." My filing status shows correctly as Married-Filing Joint, which is how we filed in January. My transcripts are still completely blank though, which is concerning. Nothing at all is populating in the transcript system even though the WMR tool has updated with this delay message. We're really counting on this money soon, and I don't know if this WMR update is good news (that they're actually working on our return now) or bad news (that we're looking at an even longer wait). Anyone know how long after getting this WMR update I might see my transcripts populate? Has anyone gone from this "delayed processing" message to actually receiving their refund?

The delayed processing message with Tax Topic 152 is actually a positive sign after verification. Tax Topic 152 simply means your return is being processed and you're getting a refund. After verification, it typically takes 2-4 weeks for transcripts to update, but this can vary widely. The fact that WMR updated already is good news. Some things to know: - Transcripts usually update overnight on Thursdays/Fridays - You might see transcript updates before WMR changes again - In-person verification generally resolves issues faster than other methods - The "still being processed" message with Tax Topic 152 means you're in the normal processing queue now Keep checking your transcripts every few days, especially Friday mornings after the overnight updates on Thursday.

•Thanks for the thorough breakdown! I'll start checking my transcripts on Fridays. Really hopeful to see something soon.

•I had almost the exact same situation back in February. My transcripts updated exactly 16 days after WMR changed to the 152 message. hang in there!

•Do transcript updates show exact deposit dates? Or do they just show the refund is approved?

•Transcripts will show a cycle code and a date. The cycle code indicates when your return was processed, and there will be a 846 code with a date that indicates when your refund is scheduled to be issued. That's usually your direct deposit date if you chose direct deposit.

Instead of stressing over checking WMR and transcripts constantly, I finally just used taxr.ai and it was a total game-changer! I had the exact same situation with verification and blank transcripts. The tool explained exactly what was happening with my return and predicted when I'd see updates. It was way more helpful than trying to decode all the transcript stuff myself. You can check it out at https://taxr.ai - it saved me so much anxiety during this process!

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does WAY more than just read transcripts. It analyzed all my info, explained every code, and gave me a timeline prediction that was spot on! Plus it told me exactly what was happening with my return and what to expect next. I'm telling everyone about this now because the IRS systems are impossible to understand otherwise.

•It's honestly the best money I've ever spent during tax season. Saved me countless hours of stress and confusion. The peace of mind alone was worth it considering how much I was stressing about my refund!

I was in the same boat last tax season and got so fed up trying to get answers. After months of trying to call the IRS and getting nowhere, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me a callback from an actual IRS agent within 2 hours! The agent was able to tell me exactly what was happening with my return and why my transcripts weren't updating. Talking to a real person made all the difference - got my refund released just a few days later.

•It basically holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available! You don't have to stay on hold for hours. The IRS agent I talked to explained that my verification hadn't fully processed in their system yet, which is why my transcripts were still blank. Once they fixed it on their end, everything started moving.

•did you have to give them any personal info or anything? sounds sketchy

•No no, they just set up the callback from the IRS. You talk directly with the IRS agents, not with them. They just get you past the impossible phone system. I was skeptical too but it worked perfectly.

Took 19 days for my transcripts to update after WMR changed to topic 152. Filed and verified around the same time as you. Just hang tight, the refund is coming, but the IRS moves at their own pace 🐢

After identity verification, I had blank transcripts for almost exactly 3 weeks before anything showed up. Then suddenly one morning everything was there including the direct deposit date which was 5 days later. The system is maddening but there's definitely movement happening in the background even when it looks like nothing is changing.

•This gives me hope! I'm at 2 weeks of blank transcripts post-verification and starting to lose my mind checking every day.

•Trust me I know the feeling! I was checking 3-4 times a day like a crazy person. The day I finally saw movement was a Thursday morning.

My experience was different. My transcripts updated FIRST, then WMR. Don't assume no change means no progress. The systems don't always talk to each other in real time.

I got that EXACT same message last year in the WMR tool. Transcripts took 23 days to update after that point. When they did finally update it was basically all at once - went from blank to fully processed with a DDD. It was frustrating but at least the verification process worked and I got my money.

Pro tip: Call the IRS Tax Advocate Service instead of the main IRS number. I was having the same issue, called them, and they told me the exact date my transcripts would update. They were 100% right. 1-877-777-4778

•I tried that number multiple times and couldn't get through. Always said "due to high call volume" and hung up on me 😡

•That's why I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - couldn't get through on any IRS number including TAS. The callback feature saved my sanity.

I'm seriously starting to think the IRS has some sort of random number generator that determines when people get their refunds lmao. There's no rhyme or reason to how they process returns 🤡

Is anyone else dealing with a blank transcript but not getting ANY update on WMR either? Been stuck like this for months, verified in January...

•Try using taxr.ai - it helped me figure out why my return was stuck in this limbo state. Turns out there was an issue that wasn't even showing on WMR. https://taxr.ai

Had to verify last year and got the tax topic 152 message too. I found this site called taxr.ai that was able to tell me EXACTLY what was going on with my return even when my transcripts were blank. Nailed the prediction on when my refund would come too. It's like having an IRS insider explain everything: https://taxr.ai

I dont get why the IRS has these diffrent systems that don't talk to eachother. WMR says one thing, transcript says another, and when you call (if you can even get thru) they tell you something completely different. How are we supposed to know whats really happening???

•The IRS is running on computer systems from the 1960s. No joke, they still use COBOL programming language. That's why nothing syncs up properly.

The Tax Topic 152 message after verification is definitely a positive sign! I went through this exact situation last year - verified in person and then waited what felt like forever for transcripts to update. From my experience and what I've seen here, you're looking at roughly 2-4 weeks for transcript updates after getting that 152 message. The key thing is that your return is now in the normal processing queue, which is huge progress from being stuck in verification limbo. A few things that helped me stay sane during the wait: - Transcripts typically update overnight Thursday into Friday - Don't check more than once a week - it won't speed things up and just adds stress - When transcripts do update, they usually show everything at once including your DDD (Direct Deposit Date) The fact that WMR updated already is actually faster than some people experience. Try to be patient (easier said than done, I know!) - your refund is coming, the IRS just moves at their own glacial pace. Hang in there!

I'm in almost the exact same situation! Verified in person on 3/12 and just got the Tax Topic 152 message yesterday. My transcripts are still completely blank too, which was making me panic that something went wrong with the verification process. Reading through all these responses is actually really reassuring - sounds like 2-4 weeks is pretty typical for transcripts to update after getting that delayed processing message. I was worried that the blank transcripts meant my verification didn't work, but it seems like that's just how slow their systems are. Going to try checking transcripts on Friday mornings like Sofia suggested rather than obsessively checking every day. The waiting is brutal when you're counting on that money, but at least we're past the verification hurdle now. Thanks for posting this - it's helping me feel less alone in this process!
