WMR Status Changed From "Being Processed" to "Still Being Processed" with Tax Topic 152 - Should I Be Worried?
Anyone else notice their WMR status change from 'being processed' to 'still being processed'? I was checking my refund status on the WMR tool this morning at 5:55 and noticed the change. I'm seeing this exact message now: "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available. For more information about processing delays, please see our Refund Frequently Asked Questions." They also included a reference to "Tax Topic 152, Refund Information" at the bottom of the message. The WMR tool shows that my return is "Received" but hasn't moved to "Approved" or "Sent" stages yet. It still shows the three-stage progress bar at the top (Return Received → Refund Approved → Refund Sent), but I'm stuck at the first stage. Had this happen before and got my refund on time, but seeing mixed info about what this means. Some say it's a delay others say it's normal. Is the "still being processed" wording with the Tax Topic 152 reference a bad sign? Has anyone else gotten this message and then received their refund without issues? The app also shows options for "Refunds," "Payments," "Free Tax Help," and "Connect" at the bottom, but none of that helps explain what's happening with my return. Trying to figure out if I should be worried or not about this status change.

Tax pro here - this change typically doesn't mean much. The IRS systems do this routinely and it's not necessarily indicating a delay. What matters more is if you have any codes on your transcript that might indicate an actual review or hold.

•Thanks! That's a relief. Where do I check these codes you mentioned?

•You can pull your transcript from IRS.gov, but honestly its like reading hieroglyphics if you dont know what your looking for 😅

Hey guys! I've been helping people with transcript analysis for a while now. The best way to actually understand whats going on is using taxr.ai - it costs $4.99 but it analyzes everything and tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect your refund. Way better than playing detective! https://taxr.ai

•Its crazy accurate! Uses AI to read all those confusing codes and tells you exactly whats happening. Even predicts refund dates within a few days usually

Did you claim EIC or child tax credit? Those usually take longer to process and can cause status changes like this

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The IRS systems are notoriously glitchy and status changes like this happen all the time. "Still being processed" just means they're working through their backlog - it's not necessarily a red flag. Tax Topic 152 is just their generic reference for refund processing info. As long as you don't have any actual issues with your return (like missing forms or math errors), you should be fine. The timing can vary but most people still get their refunds within the normal 21-day window even with these status changes.
