WMR refund progress bar disappeared and showing "processing" with code 570 "Additional account action pending" on transcript - $6,385 refund on hold

I checked my Where's My Refund tool yesterday and noticed something weird. The path that showed my refund progress is completely gone now and it just says 'processing'. I filed my taxes in mid-February and everything was moving along fine until this change. Looking at my transcript, I can see all the details that worry me: ** INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED EXEMPTIONS: 04 FILING STATUS: Married Filing Joint ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: $46,309.00 TAXABLE INCOME: $17,109.00 TAX PER RETURN: $0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: $0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: $0.00 TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: $0.00 RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER) Apr. 15, 2025 PROCESSING DATE Mar. 03, 2025 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed 20250705 03-03-2025 $0.00 30211-429-92115-5 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding 04-15-2025 -$1,052.00 766 Credit to your account 04-16-2025 -$887.00 768 Earned income credit 04-17-2025 -$4,446.00 570 Additional account action pending 03-03-2025 $0.00 This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data My transcript clearly shows codes 150, 806, 766, 768, and 570 (Additional account action pending) as of May 12, 2025. I'm supposed to get about $5,200 back between my withholding ($1,052), tax credits ($887) and EIC ($4,446), which totals around $6,385. The most concerning thing is the code 570 "Additional account action pending" dated 03-03-2025. There's no code 971 or 846 following it, which I understand would indicate further explanation or a refund issued. Anyone know what this change on WMR means? The fact that my progress bar disappeared completely and now just says "processing" has me worried. Is this a good sign that they're finally moving forward with my refund, or should I be concerned? We're really counting on this money for some upcoming expenses.

The code 570 is what's causing your WMR path to disappear. This code means the IRS has put a hold on your account for some reason and is reviewing something. This could be identity verification, reviewing your credits (especially EIC since you have that), or checking documentation. When your path disappears and shows 'processing', it usually means the IRS computer system took your return out of the normal automated processing flow for manual review. This doesn't necessarily mean anything bad - it happens to tons of returns, especially ones with certain credits. Check your transcript again in a week or so and look for a code 571 (which resolves the hold) followed by an 846 code (refund issued). If you don't see any change in 3-4 weeks, you might want to call the IRS to check status.

Thanks for the detailed info. Do you know typically how long these 570 holds last? I'm getting worried since I needed this refund for some unexpected expenses.

It varies a lot. Sometimes a week, sometimes several months. Most common EIC verification holds resolve within 60 days. If it's identity verification, could be faster once you verify. Really depends on what triggered the review in your case.

I had the same thing last year. That 570 code sat on my account for 7 whole weeks before it changed. Turned out they were just verifying my W2 income. Sucked waiting but eventually got approved.

7 weeks?? omg that would kill me. I've only been waiting a few days since noticing this change but it feels like forever.

I've been dealing with tax issues for years, and honestly the best tool I've found is taxr.ai - it scans your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and what to expect. It's like having a tax pro analyze your transcript but so much faster. I was frustrated with the same issue and it showed me exactly why my refund was held and even predicted when I'd get it. I use it every time I check my transcript now since the IRS codes are so confusing. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does way more than just read it. You upload your transcript and it breaks down all the codes, explains what's actually happening with your refund, gives timelines, and even helps with what to do next. I was totally lost with all these random IRS codes before using it.

Just tried it and WOW. This tool is incredible! I've been struggling for weeks trying to understand my transcript and in 2 minutes it explained everything. It even predicted my refund date based on the pattern of codes. Best thing is I didn't have to wait on hold with the IRS for 3 hours just to get a vague answer. This should be pinned to the top of this subreddit honestly.

does this cost anything? seems sus that it can do all that...

There is a cost but it was the best money I've spent during tax season. Saved me hours of stress and research, plus I knew exactly what was happening instead of guessing. Better than paying a tax pro hundreds of dollars to tell me the same thing.

After weeks of getting nowhere with the IRS website and phone system, I finally got through to an actual human at the IRS using this service called Claimyr! They got me connected to an IRS agent who explained my situation immediately. The agent told me exactly why my refund was on hold and released it while I was on the phone. I tried calling the normal way for TWO WEEKS with no luck. Using claimyr.com was the only thing that worked for me - talking to a real person made all the difference.

Is this for real? I've been trying to call the IRS for days and can't get through. Always get the 'high call volume' message and they hang up on me.

100% real. I was super skeptical too but was desperate. They basically hold your place in line with the IRS and call you when they get an agent. Saved me hours of redial hell. My refund was released the same day after I explained my situation to the agent.

do they make you give them any personal info? not trying to get scammed here

They just need your phone number to call you back when they reach an agent. You talk directly to the IRS yourself. I was worried about the same thing but it's just a calling service. The IRS agent I spoke with cleared up my 570 code issue in like 10 minutes.

i might try this cause i'm getting desperate. Did they tell you why your refund was held up?

Yeah, turns out they needed to verify one of my W2s because my employer submitted it late. The agent was able to verify it while I was on the phone and release the hold. Would've been waiting weeks more if I hadn't called.

The 570 code with no other explanation codes usually means manual review. Probably checking your income or credits. The WMR tool is basically useless - it doesn't show the real status 90% of the time. I'd just keep checking your transcript every few days for updates.

when my wmr path disappeared last year it was actually good news - meant they were finalizing everything. got my deposit like 5 days later. but everyones situation is different lol. that 570 code is the thing to watch tho.

WMR is totally broken this year omg 🤦‍♀️ Mine went from showing the bars to nothing, then back to bars, then to processing, then to a message saying info doesn't match. Finally got my refund last week and WMR STILL says processing. Don't trust it!

same same same. WMR is a joke. Mine said "still processing" the ENTIRE time even after I got my refund deposited. Meanwhile my transcript had all the real info.

IRS systems are held together with duct tape and prayers at this point 😂

If your AGI is $55,400 and you're getting $5,200 back, it sounds like you might be overwithholding. You might want to adjust your W4 so you're not giving the IRS an interest-free loan all year. I know some people like big refunds but you could be putting that money to work for you throughout the year.

-

Ian Armstrong

Good point, but most of that refund is from EIC and other credits, not just withholding. But yeah I should probably still adjust my W4.

Ah that makes sense. The EIC is pretty substantial. In that case, getting it as a lump sum might be better anyway!

ugh the IRS and their stupid codes 🙄 why can't they just speak english and tell us whats going on??? i swear they do this on purpose to confuse everyone

The IRS still uses computer systems from the 1960s for some of their processing. Not even joking. They've been trying to update for years but keep running out of funding. It's a miracle anything works at all.

Your transcript shows the real status - that 570 code is an account hold. Have you tried calling the IRS? Be prepared to wait on hold for 2+ hours tho 😩

I tried calling but couldn't even get into the hold queue! Just got the 'call back later' message and they hung up. So frustrating.

Try calling exactly at 7am EST when they open. That's usually the best time to get through. Or use that Claimyr service someone mentioned above - I've heard good things about it.

I've gone through this EXACT same situation. That 570 code is likely just verification of your EIC. Since you filed MFJ with 4 exemptions, they're probably checking that everything lines up. The WMR tool going blank is normal when there's a hold. Don't panic - 9 times out of 10 it resolves itself within a few weeks without you needing to do anything.

I HATE the IRS with a burning passion. They expect us to understand all these cryptic codes while they sit on our money for months. My return was "processing" for 7 months last year before I finally got someone on the phone who fixed it in 5 minutes. The system is completely broken. 🤬

Its even more frustrating when you really need that money and they're just sitting on it for no reason.

Sometimes the WMR tool glitches out when they're updating their systems. Try clearing your browser cache or using a different device to check again. Also, if you have access to your transcript, that's always more accurate than WMR.

check your mail! sometimes when wmr changes like that it means they sent you a letter asking for more information. if you don't respond to those letters your refund just sits in limbo forever

Good idea, I'll keep an eye out. Nothing in the mail yet but it could take a few days to arrive I guess.
