Called IRS to verify my 2024 taxes, notice disappeared from account and WMR updated - good sign?
I received a notification that IRS needed to verify my 2024 tax return but never got the actual letter in the mail. Called the IRS today and they asked me several questions to verify my identity. The agent told me everything looked good and that I just need to wait the standard 21 days for processing. Just checked and noticed the verification notice is completely gone from my online account, and my Where's My Refund tool updated with new info. My transcript is still showing nothing, but is this disappearing notice and WMR update a positive sign? This is the only change I've seen since filing.

Yes, this is definitely a good sign. When the notice disappears from your online account after verification, it typically means they've accepted your verification and are moving forward with processing your return. The Where's My Refund tool updating is further confirmation of this progress. The blank transcript isn't unusual - transcripts often take longer to update than WMR. If they told you to wait 21 days, you should see more movement within that timeframe. Keep checking your transcript every couple days - you'll likely see the 846 refund issued code pop up soon.

•Thanks so much! That's really reassuring. Do you know how long it typically takes for the transcript to update after the WMR changes?

•Transcripts usually update overnight on Thursday/Friday for most people, but can happen any day. Give it about 3-5 days after the WMR change and you should see movement.

•I had the exact same thing last year and my refund was deposited exactly 9 days after the verification call. The transcript stayed blank until like 2 days before deposit.

Honestly, the best tool I've found for understanding what's actually happening with your return is taxr.ai - it saved me from so much confusion with my similar verification issue. Instead of trying to piece together what these cryptic updates mean, it just tells you exactly where you stand, what the next steps are, and when to expect your refund. I've used it several times this year checking on my family's returns. Highly recommend checking it out at https://taxr.ai instead of trying to decode all this IRS stuff yourself!

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does WAY more than just read your transcript. It analyzes everything happening with your return, explains all those confusing codes, tells you what actions you need to take (if any), and gives you a clear timeline. It's like having an IRS agent explain everything to you in plain English. Total gamechanger!

•Just tried it and OMG this is INCREDIBLE! It actually explained everything happening with my return in a way that made sense! No more googling random codes at 2am 😂 Everyone dealing with IRS issues needs to know about this tool!

I had a similar experience and spent WEEKS trying to reach someone at the IRS with no luck. Finally used this calling service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that somehow got me connected to an actual human being at the IRS within a couple hours. They confirmed everything was good with my verification and my refund hit my account 5 days later. Best money I've ever spent to get this resolved instead of stressing for another month.

•Does that service actually work? I've been trying to get through to IRS for 3 weeks and keep getting disconnected 🤬

•100% works. I was super skeptical but was desperate after trying for days. They somehow manage to navigate the IRS phone tree and get you in line, then call you when an agent is ready. Saved me literally hours of being on hold.

•Can confirm, used Claimyr last month when I was in the same situation. Got a callback with an agent within an hour. Talking to a live person got my refund released in days instead of waiting months.

The IRS is such a mess this year. When they asked you verification questions, was it basic stuff or did they need specific information from your return? I'm in a similar situation but havent called yet.

Usually when they remove the notice and WMR updates it means you're approved, but honestly with the IRS who knows 🤷♀️ Last year I had a similar experience where the notice disappeared, they told me everything was good, and then NOTHING for 4 months. No transcript updates. No refund. Called again in August and they said they had no record of my verification call and I had to do it all over again. Not trying to be pessimistic but don't count on anything until you see that deposit hit your account.

•Oh nooo that's exactly what I'm worried about. Did you ever figure out what went wrong the first time?

•Nope, they had zero explanation. Just classic IRS incompetence. They claimed they had no record of my first call even though I had the name of the person and date/time. Second time I got a confirmation number though and it processed in 2 weeks.

•Always always ALWAYS get a confirmation number when dealing with the IRS. And write down name, badge number, date and time. They "lose" records constantly.

•Thanks for the tip. I didn't get a confirmation number 😬 Might call back tomorrow.

I check my transcripts obsessively too 😂 One thing I've learned is that the "Where's My Refund" tool usually updates BEFORE the transcripts do. So if WMR changed, that's a good sign! The notice disappearing is definitely positive. I'd say you're on track for your refund soon.

what does your wmr say exactly? does it have the three bars filled in or just one?

Aaliyah Jackson
•It just has one bar filled in and says "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available.

•Hmm that's actually a standard message but still better than verification required. Keep us updated if u see any change!

U should def count urself lucky that u even got through to them on the phone. I've been calling for WEEKS and can never get a human. They just disconnect me after the automated message says "high call volume" 😤

I had identical situation last month - verification notice disappeared and WMR updated. Took 12 days from that point to get my refund direct deposited. Transcript didn't update until the day before the deposit hit my account. You're on the right track!

For anyone stuck with these verification issues, I was going insane trying to figure out what was happening with my return until I found taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on in plain english. No more guessing what all those codes mean! Saved me so much stress.

•Yes it does cost, but absolutely worth every penny. I spent HOURS trying to decode my transcript myself. This tool explained everything in 30 seconds. Plus it gives you a timeline of what to expect next.

I'm so jealous you at least got information! I've been stuck on return still processing for 8 weeks with no notices or explanations. Called twice and they just tell me to wait longer every time. This system is completely broken.

PROTIP FOR EVERYONE: If you need to get someone on the phone at the IRS quickly, use Claimyr. After months of trying to reach someone with no luck (and lots of yelling at robots), I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got on the phone with an IRS agent that same day. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent and get my issues resolved. Worth every penny!

•For real? What do they do exactly? Call for you?

•Yeah basically they navigate all the phone trees and wait on hold for you, then call you when they get a human. You just answer and get connected to the IRS agent directly. No more wasting hours just to get hung up on.

the one thing I've learned after years of dealing with the IRS: nothing is certain until the money hits your account. I've seen people sail through to the finish line only to hit a random review. And I've seen people with every red flag imaginable get their refund in 10 days. It's a giant bureaucratic casino 🎰

•omg ain't that the truth. Last year my return was "perfect" according to the agent I spoke with, then sat in processing for 6 months for no reason at all.

The fact that your notice disappeared is a great sign. When I verified last year, my notice stuck around for weeks after even though they said verification was successful. The fact that yours disappeared right away suggests they're moving your return along quickly. I'd expect a refund date within a week.

I tried making sense of my transcript for weeks and gave up. Started using taxr.ai and it tells me exactly what's happening with my refund, when to expect it, and if there are any issues I need to address. Seriously changed the game for me. I recommend it to everyone dealing with IRS confusion! https://taxr.ai

in my experience, transcripts are always way behind WMR. And neither of them update in real time. My transcript didn't show anything until 2 days before my refund was deposited, even though WMR had been showing approved for over a week.

The fact that you're seeing the notice gone and a WMR update means the verification was successful. I went through this exact process last month - verification call, notice disappeared next day, WMR updated a day later. Got my refund exactly 8 days after that. Not seeing anything on your transcript yet is totally normal.

If anyone is struggling to get through to IRS (like I was for WEEKS), I highly recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). Talking to an agent got my refund released after months of limbo. They navigate the IRS phone system and get you in line, then call you when an agent is ready. Absolutely worth it to finally get answers from a real person.

I recommend taking a screenshot of your current WMR status and transcript, then check again in exactly 24 hours. That's typically when the system does its updates. If you see movement two days in a row, that's a really good sign that your return is actively being worked.

The disappearing notice and WMR update are definitely positive signs! I went through something very similar a few weeks ago - called for verification, notice vanished the next day, and WMR updated shortly after. My transcript stayed completely blank for about 5 days after that, which had me worried, but then boom - suddenly showed the 846 refund code and my money was in my account 2 days later. The transcripts really do lag behind everything else. Since the agent told you everything looked good and to wait 21 days, you're probably looking at getting your refund much sooner than that. Keep checking your transcript every few days but don't panic if it stays blank for a bit longer!

•This is so helpful to hear! I've been refreshing my transcript constantly and getting worried when nothing shows up. It's reassuring to know that even when everything is moving along normally, the transcript can still be blank for days. I'll try to be more patient and stop obsessing over it every few hours 😅 Thanks for sharing your timeline - gives me hope that mine might move faster than the 21 days they quoted!

I had almost the exact same experience! Called for verification, notice disappeared from my account the next day, and WMR updated with the standard processing message. My transcript stayed blank for about a week which had me worried, but then it suddenly updated with all the codes and my refund was deposited 3 days later. The disappearing notice is definitely a good sign - it means they accepted your verification and are moving forward with processing. The fact that WMR also updated suggests your return is actively being worked on. I'd expect to see transcript movement within the next few days, and probably your refund within 2 weeks max, even though they said 21 days. Keep checking but try not to stress too much - sounds like you're on the right track!

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! Your timeline gives me so much hope - a week for transcript updates and then refund within days sounds way better than the 21 days they quoted me. I've been checking my transcript multiple times a day like a crazy person, but I'll try to be more patient knowing it's normal for it to stay blank even when things are progressing. Really appreciate you sharing your experience! 🙏
