How long after ID verification does it take to show up in IRS database?

So I received one of those ID verification letters from the IRS back on March 22nd. I verified my identity online right away (same day). My question is how long does it take for the verification to actually register in their system? I've been checking my transcripts daily and still nothing has changed. When I call the IRS they keep saying they can't see that I've verified yet. Has anyone else dealt with this waiting game? Really need my refund soon.

The verification process typically takes 9-21 days to reflect in the IRS systems. When you verify online, it doesn't instantly update their database. Their systems do batch processing and various departments need to coordinate the information. If you verified on March 22nd, you should start seeing movement by mid-April at the latest. If nothing happens by then, call the dedicated ID verification line at 800-830-5084 (not the regular IRS number) and ask for a status update specifically on your verification. Also make sure you completed the full verification process - sometimes people think they're done but missed a final confirmation screen. You should have received a confirmation number at the end.

Thanks for the info! I did get a confirmation number and screenshot it just to be safe. I'll give it until mid-April and then try that specific number.

That number never works for me. I've called like 47 times and always get the "we're too busy, call back later" message 🙄

Yeah the phone lines are rough right now. If you keep getting blocked, try using claimyr.com - it'll get you through to an actual person. Saved me hours of redial hell.

The absolute best way to understand what's happening with your transcript is to use taxr.ai - it saved me so much time trying to interpret all those codes and dates. Instead of posting and waiting for answers that might be wrong, it instantly analyzed my situation and told me exactly what was happening with my refund. It even predicted when I'd get my deposit based on my verification timing. The peace of mind was worth it alone, but it also caught a potential issue I wouldn't have noticed. I use it every filing season now! https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does WAY more than just read it. It actually analyzes all the codes and dates together to make sense of your whole tax situation, not just one line at a time. It explains everything in plain language and gives you specific next steps based on your unique situation. For ID verification issues like the OP has, it can tell you exactly where you are in the process.

I JUST TRIED IT AND OMG THIS IS INCREDIBLE! Why doesn't everyone use this?! Been struggling with the IRS for months and this broke everything down in seconds. Showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and when to expect movement. Literally life changing for anyone dealing with tax issues!

After going through identity verification hell, I finally got through to a real person at the IRS by using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They somehow got me a callback from the IRS within an hour when I'd been trying for weeks. The agent confirmed my ID verification was complete but hadn't been fully processed yet. Talking to a real human at the IRS got my verification pushed through, and my refund was released 3 days later! It was definitely worth it to finally get answers instead of staring at unchanged transcripts all day.

Is this for real? Ive been trying to reach someone for weeks about my ID verification.

100% real. I was skeptical too but after wasting days redialing the IRS, I gave it a shot. Definitely the best money I've ever spent to get my questions answered directly. They basically hold your place in line and call you when an agent is available.

this seems sketch af. how does this even work? the IRS lines are always busy

Not sketch at all. They have some algorithm that helps navigate the IRS phone tree and waits on hold for you. When they finally get through, they connect you directly to the agent. Saved me hours of frustration and my refund got processed way faster once I actually talked to someone.

I just went through this last month! After I verified my ID online, it took exactly 13 days before I could see it reflected in the system. Then another 9 days before the refund was issued. Hang in there, the waiting is the worst part.

The IRS is completely overwhelmed right now. I had to verify in February and it took almost 3 weeks to show up in their system. Then I got my refund about 10 days after that. Their systems are so outdated its ridiculous 🤦‍♂️

Outdated is an understatement. They're still using systems from the 1960s for some of their databases. My cousin works there and says its like stepping into a time machine everyday..

Remember when they got that extra funding and everyone freaked out? THIS is why they needed it. Their tech is from the stone age.

Exactly! And now we all suffer waiting weeks for what should take minutes in 2025 smh

Mine took 9 days last year but my sisters took over 3 weeks this year. Seems totally random tbh

Pro tip: don't check your transcript daily, it'll drive you crazy. Set a calendar reminder for 2 weeks after verification and check then. The IRS moves at their own pace and nothing we do speeds it up.

Easier said than done lol. Every morning I wake up thinking 'maybe today's the day!' 😅

Trust me I get it! I was refreshing my transcript 5x a day last year. It was unhealthy and didn't make anything happen faster!

The entire verification system is broken. I verified 3 times because each time I called they said they had no record of me verifying. Eventually I went IN PERSON to an IRS office and had them document it. That finally worked. Don't trust the online system.

This! I had the exact same experience. The online verification is a joke.

Going in person is smart but not everyone has an IRS office nearby 😢 Some of us are stuck in verification purgatory

I drove 2 hours each way to get to an office. Was it fun? No. But I got my $5700 refund a week later so totally worth it.

Have you checked your account online at irs.gov? Sometimes the verification shows up there before it updates in the transcript system. Also make sure your looking at 2024 transcripts not 2023!

Good point! I've been checking my account too but nothing there either. And yes, definitely looking at 2024 transcripts.

I used taxr.ai to understand my transcript after verification and it explained everything perfectly! Showed me exactly where I was in the process and when I could expect updates. Highly recommend checking it out.

How much does that cost?

I don't remember the exact amount, but it was worth every penny. Saved me hours of stress and confusion trying to decipher those cryptic transcript codes. Literally paid for itself by helping me identify an issue that would have delayed my refund even longer.

I had a different experience. I verified over the phone (couldn't do it online for some reason) and it showed up in their system the very next day. Maybe the phone verification gets priority? Might be worth calling instead if the online isn't registering.

I just went thru this! It took 2 weeks and 3 days from when I verified until it showed up in my transcript. Then another week for the refund to hit my account. The system is SO SLOW.

Have either of you tried calling them? Sometimes there's an issue that doesn't get resolved automatically and you need to talk to someone.

Been trying to call every day but can never get through. Might try that Claimyr thing someone mentioned above.

Keep an eye on your transcript for code 971. That's the notice they sent you. Then look for code 570 which is a hold on your account. When you see code 571, that means the hold was released after verification. Then you'll see 846 which is your refund issued date! 🎉
