WMR still showing "Action Required" after ID verification completed - should I be worried?
I completed my ID verification through ID.me back on March 21st and the IRS representative just told me today that it was successfully processed on March 25th. However, when I check the Where's My Refund tool, it still displays the same "Action Required" message that was there before I verified. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take for your WMR status to update after verification? Should I be concerned or is this normal? My tax return was filed in early February and I'm starting to get anxious about when I'll receive my refund.

This is completely normal. The WMR tool doesn't update immediately after verification. The system typically takes 7-14 days to fully process your verification and update the status. Some taxpayers report it taking up to 21 days for the status to change from "Action Required" to "Processing" or "Approved." If the IRS confirmed your verification was successful on March 25th, I'd give it at least another week before worrying. The fact that you got confirmation from an IRS rep that your verification went through is actually a good sign - many people can't even get that information. If WMR doesn't update by April 15th (about 21 days after verification), that's when I'd recommend calling the IRS again to check the status. Until then, I'd just keep periodically checking WMR once every few days.

•Thank you for the detailed response! It's good to know this is typical. I'll try to be patient and keep checking.

•I had this same issue last year. WMR showed 'Action Required' for almost a month after verification. My refund just showed up in my bank account one day with no warning or status change. So don't worry too much about what WMR says.

•The IRS systems are so stupidly outdated. Like how hard is it to update a simple status?? 🤦♂️

I've been in your exact situation! After wasting days trying to figure out what was happening with my transcripts and WMR status, I finally discovered taxr.ai and it literally changed everything. Their tool actually explained my transcript in plain English, showed me why my 'Action Required' status was stuck, and predicted when my refund would arrive based on my specific situation. It was insanely accurate! I use it every time I need to check my tax status now and it's been a game changer. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•OMG it does SO much more than just read the transcript! It actually interprets all the codes and explains what they mean for YOUR specific situation. It told me exactly why my WMR was stuck at "Action Required" even though I'd verified, and predicted my refund date which was spot on! Can't recommend it enough - saved me from pulling my hair out trying to decode all that IRS gibberish.

•Not at all! Just sharing what helped me when I was in the exact same boat as OP. Was stuck in verification hell for weeks and this tool was the only thing that gave me clear answers. Feel free to ignore if it's not helpful for you! Just trying to save someone else the headache I went through.

After my ID verification, my WMR stayed on "Action Required" for almost 3 weeks before it finally updated to "Refund Approved." I was going crazy checking it every day, but eventually it did change. Just hang in there!

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago. After trying to call the IRS and failing dozens of times, I finally used Claimyr.com to get through to an agent. They set up a callback and I actually spoke to someone who confirmed my verification was in the system but that WMR just hadn't updated yet. Got my refund about 10 days later. Talking to an actual human at the IRS made all the difference - it was the best money I've ever spent after weeks of frustration!

•Wait what is this claimyr thing? Another app to throw money at? Does it actually work?

•Yes it actually works! It's a service that navigates the IRS phone tree for you and gets you in the callback queue. I was super skeptical too but I tried for 2 weeks to get through on my own and couldn't. With Claimyr I got a callback from the IRS in about 2 hours. Totally worth it to finally talk to someone who could see my actual file instead of guessing what was happening.

•I've heard mixed things about these services. Did you have to give them any personal info?

Dmitry Popov
•Nope! They just connect you with the IRS - you don't share any personal tax info with them. They just get you past the busy signals and the "call back later" messages. Then the IRS calls YOU directly.

The WMR tool is absolute garbage tbh. Mine still showed "processing" 2 weeks AFTER I received my refund last year. It's more reliable to check your transcript if you can access it online.

•You gotta go through ID.me verification on the IRS website. It's a pain in the butt but worth it to see your actual transcript. If you keep getting locked out, try using a different browser or clearing your cache.

There's a huge backlog this year for ID verifications. I verified on Feb 28 and my WMR didn't update until April 2! But I did get my refund a week after the update. Just be patient - as long as they confirmed your verification went through you should be fine.

Dont trust WMR for accurate info. My experience: after verifying my identity, WMR still showed "action required" for 25 daysthen suddenly changed to "refund approved" and I got my $ the next day. Call the IRS refund hotline at 800-829-1954 for a more up-to-date status.

•That number is useless too... just gives the same automated messages as WMR. Unless you mean actually talking to a human which is basically impossible these days

•True the automated line is the same, but sometimes it updates before WMR does. And ya getting a human is like winning the lottery

Have you checked your transcript? That's more reliable than WMR. If you see code 570 followed by 571, it usually means your account is being reviewed but is moving forward. If you see code 846, that's your refund date.

I've worked with taxes for 15 years and let me tell you - this happens all the time! The verification system and the WMR system don't talk to each other very well. Most of my clients see WMR update about 2-3 weeks after verification. Just chill and it'll change eventually.

The IRS is seriously the worst. I finally gave up on calling them after literally 20+ attempts and used claimyr.com to get a callback from an agent. She told me exactly what was happening with my verification and when to expect my refund. Talking to someone who could actually see my file saved me weeks of anxiety and confusion.

•It's 100% legit. I was skeptical too, but honestly after trying for weeks to get through myself, it was worth every penny to actually talk to a human at the IRS. They just help you get in the callback queue, then the IRS calls you directly.

I had this exact situation! My transcript actually updated before WMR did. I recommend using taxr.ai to check your transcript - it explained everything that was happening behind the scenes way before WMR updated. Saved me tons of anxiety! https://taxr.ai

•Is this the same as the IRS transcript tool or something different?
0 coins
Isabella Ferreira
•It's different! It actually explains what all the codes and dates mean in your transcript. The IRS just gives you the raw transcript with all those cryptic codes, but taxr.ai interprets them and tells you what's really happening with your return and when to expect your refund. Honestly it's like having a tax pro look at your transcript.

For me it took exactly 9 days after verification for WMR to update. But my friend verified the same day and hers took almost a month to update. There's no rhyme or reason to the IRS timelines these days.

Lol everyone on here like "just be patient" while the IRS sits on our money making interest off it. So annoying. But yeah, to answer ur question, my WMR didnt update for like 3 weeks after verification and then suddenly changed to approved.

•Exactly. And they charge interest and penalties if we're late but we get nothing when they're late with our refunds. System is rigged.

Try checking your transcript if you can - that's where you'll see movement first. Look for codes 766 and 768 (credits) and eventually 846 (refund issued). WMR is basically useless.

If the IRS told you your verification was successful, then you're good! The WMR tool is notorious for being slow to update. Most people see the status change within 2-3 weeks of verification, but some take longer. Just keep checking your bank account rather than obsessing over WMR.

I went through this exact same thing last year! My ID verification was completed in early March, but WMR kept showing "Action Required" for almost a month. I was checking it obsessively every day thinking something was wrong. Then one morning I woke up and my refund was just sitting in my bank account - no status change on WMR beforehand or anything. The system is just really slow to update, especially during busy season. Since the IRS rep confirmed your verification went through successfully, you should be all set. Try to resist the urge to check WMR daily (easier said than done, I know!) and maybe set a reminder to check once a week instead. Your refund will come!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Filed in early February, completed ID verification on March 18th, and WMR is still stuck on "Action Required" even though I called and they confirmed my verification was processed. It's so frustrating not knowing what's happening, but reading everyone's experiences here is really reassuring. Sounds like 2-3 weeks is pretty normal for the status to update. I'm going to try to stop checking it daily and just be patient. Thanks for posting this question - it's helpful to know I'm not alone in this waiting game!

•I'm in the exact same boat! Filed early February, verified through ID.me on March 20th, and WMR is still showing that dreaded "Action Required" message. It's so nerve-wracking when you don't know if something went wrong or if it's just the system being slow. But after reading through all these responses, it seems like we're both just caught in the normal waiting period. I'm going to try the advice about checking transcripts once I get my verification code in the mail - seems like that updates faster than WMR. Hang in there, sounds like we should see movement in the next week or two!

I'm dealing with this same issue right now! Completed my ID verification on March 19th and WMR is still stuck on "Action Required" even though when I called, the IRS rep confirmed it was successfully processed on March 22nd. It's been driving me crazy checking every day, but after reading all these responses I feel so much better knowing this is totally normal. Seems like the consensus is 2-3 weeks for WMR to update after verification, with some people waiting even longer. I'm going to try to be more patient and maybe check my transcript once I can access it online. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it's reassuring to know we're all in the same boat waiting for these outdated systems to catch up!

I was starting to panic thinking something went wrong with my verification, but seeing everyone's similar experiences is such a relief. It sounds like we just need to trust the process and give it more time. I think I'm going to follow the advice about stopping the daily WMR checks - it's just adding to my stress! I'm in literally the exact same situation! Filed in early February, completed ID verification on March 17th through ID.me, and WMR has been stuck on "Action Required" ever since. It's so frustrating when you're expecting a refund and have no idea what's actually happening behind the scenes. I'm going through the exact same thing right now! I was getting really anxious about it, but after reading everyone's experiences here, it's such a relief to know this is completely normal. It sounds like the WMR system is just painfully slow to update and doesn't communicate well with the verification system. I'm going to try to follow the advice about checking less frequently and maybe look into accessing my transcript online to get more accurate information. Thanks for posting this question - it's so comforting to see we're all dealing with the same frustrating wait! Hopefully we'll all see some movement in our statuses soon.

•I'm in the same exact boat! Verified on March 21st and it's been radio silence from WMR ever since. It's so frustrating when you're waiting on money you need and the system just leaves you in the dark. But honestly, reading through this whole thread has been like therapy - knowing that literally dozens of us are all stuck in the same waiting pattern makes me feel way less anxious about it. I think the key takeaway is that WMR is basically useless for tracking post-verification status. I'm going to try to get my transcript access set up so I can see what's actually happening behind the scenes. Thanks everyone for sharing your timelines - it really helps to see the light at the end of the tunnel!
