Verified Identity on March 6th - Still No Return Filed on Transcript
Ok so I verified my identity on March 6th online through the IRS portal as requested. It's now been almost 3 weeks and my transcript still says "no return filed" when I check. I'm getting concerned because I need to plan around this refund for my kids' summer activities. I've double-checked all my submission confirmations from my tax software and everything looks correct on my end. How long does it typically take after identity verification to see some kind of movement on the transcript? I filed back in early February and received the identity verification request at the end of February.

Unfortunately, identity verification adds significant processing time to your return. According to IRM 21.5.6.4.35.3, the typical timeframe AFTER successful ID verification is 9 weeks, though I've seen it take anywhere from 3-12 weeks in practice. The system is particularly backed up this year. Your transcript showing "no return filed" is actually normal at this stage - the return is essentially in a holding pattern until the verification is fully processed through their system. The verification you completed on March 6th is still working its way through their backend processes.

Thank you for this info! I'm in a similar situation - verified on March 10th and still showing nothing. I've been checking my transcript every single morning at 6am hoping to see a change. Was starting to think I did something wrong with the verification process.

I went through this last year and it was INFURIATING. My timeline: • Filed: Feb 1 • ID Verify notice: Feb 28 • Completed verification: March 5 • Transcript updated: April 22 • Refund received: April 29 Almost 3 months total. The IRS seriously needs to improve this process.

I verified exactly 47 days ago and my transcript just updated yesterday. The IRS rep I spoke with (after waiting on hold for precisely 96 minutes) said they're seeing average wait times of 6-8 weeks after verification this year. I'm not convinced these "averages" mean anything though - seems totally random.

Did you receive any confirmation code or reference number when you completed the verification on March 6th? The system should have provided a verification confirmation number that you can reference if you need to contact the IRS. Also, which specific verification portal did you use - ID.me or the IRS's direct verification system? This can affect processing timelines.

Yes. Got confirmation code. Wrote it down. Used ID.me portal. Received email confirmation too. Saved everything. Filed February 2nd originally. Got letter February 28th. Verified March 6th. Need this money soon.

I had almost the exact same timeline last year. My experience was that it took about 5 weeks after verification before my transcript updated. The system basically puts your return back into the processing queue after verification, but with a higher priority than it had before. If you have your confirmation code, you're in good shape - that's critical if you need to follow up with them later.

Oh my goodness, I feel your pain SO MUCH right now! I was stuck in the exact same verification limbo last month and it was making me crazy! I finally broke down and used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an actual IRS agent. I was honestly shocked when they connected me in about 15 minutes after I had been trying for days on my own! The agent confirmed my verification was complete and gave me an actual timeline instead of just waiting in the dark. It was such a relief to know exactly what was happening with my return!

Has anyone who verified their identity in early March seen their transcript update yet? It's like watching a pot that never boils. I'm worried my verification might have glitched or something since there's literally zero indication that anything is happening on my account.

Just want to share a success story! I verified on February 24th and my transcript FINALLY updated yesterday. Based on the IRS forums and r/IRS threads I've been obsessively reading, it seems like they're processing verifications from late February now. According to the IRS Operations Status page (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations), they're still dealing with a backlog from the identity verification surge that happened in February. Hang in there - you should see movement within the next 2 weeks based on current processing patterns!
