How long after verifying identity with mailed code does transcript update? Anyone else go through this?

So I finally got that verification letter in the mail from the IRS with the code to verify my identity online. I entered the code on the IRS website about 10 days ago and got the confirmation screen saying my identity was successfully verified. But when I check my transcript, literally nothing has changed. Still showing N/A for 2024 return. Has anyone else gone through this verification process? How long did it take after you entered that stupid code for your transcript to actually update and show any movement? I filed back in April and have been waiting for almost 3 months now, getting really frustrated.

KylieRose

When I had to verify with the code they mailed me last year, it took about 3 weeks for my transcript to update after verification. The system is incredibly slow right now due to backlog. The code verification is just step one - after that, they still have to actually process your return. If you verified 10 days ago, I'd give it at least another 2-3 weeks before panicking. Check your transcript every Monday morning - that's usually when updates happen. If nothing changes after a month, then you might want to call the IRS directly or try contacting your local Taxpayer Advocate Service for help. But honestly, this timeframe is pretty normal especially during peak processing season.

Thanks for the info. Feels like forever waiting. Did your transcript just suddenly update one day or was there any other notification?

One day it just updated! No notification or anything. It went from N/A to showing all the processing codes and my refund amount. Then about a week after that I got my direct deposit.

That gives me some hope at least. The waiting is killing me!

THIS IS TRUE. Same thing happened to me! No warning, just suddenly showed up one day when I checked. hang in there!

I was in the exact same situation as you, and I was going crazy trying to figure out what was happening. Spent hours researching transcript codes and calling IRS only to get nowhere. Then I found this tool called taxr.ai that actually explained what was happening with my return. It analyzed my transcript and gave me a clear timeline of when to expect updates. Saved me so much stress and guesswork! https://taxr.ai I recommend it to anyone dealing with these verification delays.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does way more than just read it! It actually interprets all those crazy codes, gives you predictions on when you'll see movement, and explains what each stage means in plain english. It's like having an IRS insider explain everything to you. Completely changed my experience.

OMG I just tried this and it was AMAZING! It showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and when to expect it. Literally answered questions I've been trying to figure out for weeks. Everyone needs to know about this! 👀

I was skeptical too but it actually worked for me. The way I see it, I'd already wasted hours trying to decipher transcript codes and getting nowhere, so it was worth it. I finally understood what was happening with my return.

After weeks of trying to get a human on the phone at the IRS and getting nowhere, I used the Claimyr app (claimyr.com) and finally got through to someone who could help me with my verification issues. The agent told me that verification can take up to 9 weeks to process in their system, but she was able to expedite mine since it had been more than 21 days since I verified. Got my refund released last week! Such a relief after months of waiting.

wait seriously? an app that gets u through to a real person? how does that even work?

CaptainAwesome

Yeah, it basically navigates the phone system for you and holds your place in line. Then calls you when it gets a human. Saved me from spending hours on hold. Best decision I made through this whole process.

These things never work tho...did u ACTUALLY get through to someone or is this just some ad?

I wouldn't waste my time posting if it didn't work. Got through to an actual agent who helped resolve my case. After 4 months of getting nowhere on my own, talking to an agent got my refund released in less than a week. Worth every penny.

Going thru this rn. Been 15 days since I entered the verification code and still nothing. This system is so broken! Why do they make it so hard for people to get their own money back??

I had to wait almost 5 weeks after verification last year. The system is just ridiculously slow. I swear they do this on purpose to hold onto our money longer. 🤬

Literally! They get to use our money interest-free while we're stuck waiting. It's a scam. 💯

And heaven forbid if YOU owe THEM money, they want it yesterday with interest and penalties! But when they owe us? *crickets*

Make sure u check ur account transcript not just the return transcript! My return transcript showed N/A for weeks after verification but my account transcript was updating with codes that showed movement. Look for code 570 first (refund hold) then hopefully 571 (hold released) and then 846 which is the refund issued code. That's the magic one ur looking for!

-

Aaliyah Jackson

Thanks! Just checked my account transcript and it shows a 570 code from last week. At least that means they're looking at it I guess?

Gabrielle Dubois

Yes! Thats progress. The 570 means they're reviewing it. Usually takes 1-3 weeks to go from 570 to 571 (release) in my experience. Ur getting closer!

I filed in March and had to verify in April. Took exactly 21 days after verification for my transcript to update, and then another week before I got my refund. IRS is moving super slow this year because they had so many identity verification cases. hope this helps!

Pro tip: call the tax advocate service instead of the main IRS line. If it's been more than 21 days since you filed or if you're facing financial hardship due to waiting on your refund, they can help expedite things. The number is 877-777-4778. They were able to get my refund released after identity verification last year when I was stuck in limbo.

Try calling right when they open (7am) or use Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through. That's what I ended up doing and it worked.

Check the WMR tool too! Sometimes that updates before the transcript. Mine showed "still processing" forever after verification, then suddenly changed to approved before my transcript updated.

One thing to consider - if your verification was for an amended return, those take FOREVER. I verified for my amended return last year and it took 16 weeks after verification for any movement. Regular returns are faster though.

No mine was just a regular return thankfully! Can't imagine waiting even longer than I already am.

Yo I literally just had this happen two months ago!!! So annoying. Called IRS like 50 times and kept getting hung up on by the automated system. Finally got the identity verification letter, did the online verification, and then...crickets. I was about to lose my mind when I found a tool called taxr.ai that explained exactly what was happening with my transcript and gave me a timeline. Turned out I was stuck in the "additional review" phase which is why nothing was updating. The tool explained exactly what was happening and when to expect movement. Wish I'd found it sooner! https://taxr.ai

Call it what u want but it saved me weeks of stress. It took my transcript that looked like a bunch of random codes and dates and turned it into actual english explanations and predictions. My return was stuck in review but I wouldn't have known that without the tool.

i feel ur pain homie, been there done that twice! do u have access to check ur transcripts online? sometimes u can see activity there even when the wmr tool shows nothing. also check for cycle codes - if ur cycle code ends in 05, ur transcripts usually update thursday nights/friday mornings.

After I verified they had sent my refund to the wrong bank account, so I had to wait for the bank to reject it and then wait for a paper check. Check your transcript carefully to make sure there's not a bigger issue!

Y'all all spending hours calling and checking transcripts every day when you could just use taxr.ai and it literally tells you whats going on and when you'll get your money. Saved me so much headache with my identity verification situation.

way less than what I lost in time and stress trying to figure it out on my own! honestly one of the best investments I made during tax season. I was checking my transcript 5x a day and driving myself crazy before that.

Unpopular opinion: maybe just be patient? I know it sucks waiting but literally everyone I know who had to verify eventually got their refund. The IRS is understaffed and overworked. Your money will come, the system is just slow af.

I get that, I waited 4 months for mine last year so I'm not just talking out of my ass. Just saying stressing about it every day doesn't make it come any faster.

The code verification system is such a joke. They don't tell you anywhere that even after you verify, there's still a long waiting period. I verified in February and didn't get my refund until May this year. The whole system needs to be overhauled.

I couldn't wait any longer after verification and needed to talk to someone at the IRS. Tried for days but couldn't get through. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get a callback from an agent who explained exactly what was happening with my return and when to expect updates. Talking to an actual human was the only thing that finally got me answers after weeks of uncertainty.

Yes there's a fee but it was 100% worth it to finally talk to someone who could help. I wasted way more time and money taking time off work to sit on hold for hours and getting nowhere. The agent I spoke to actually helped resolve my case.

Make sure the address on your return matches EXACTLY what the IRS has on file. Even small differences can cause delays after verification. My friend had this happen - transcript didn't update for weeks after verification because his address format was slightly different than what IRS had on file.

I verified then nothing for 6 weeks. Called IRS and got transferred to accounts management who told me I was randomly selected for additional review AFTER identity verification! That's why nothing was updating. Had to wait another 4 weeks after that. Total of 10 weeks after verification before I got my money. The system is broken 😫
