Tips for opening new EDD claim after hours cut? Need advice ASAP!
Hey everyone, I need to open a new unemployment claim because my hours got cut. Anyone have tips on what I should have ready before I call? I'm nervous about the whole process and want to make sure I don't mess anything up. Thanks in advance for any help!

Been there, done that. Here's what you need to have ready: - Social Security number and ID - Last employer's info (name, address, dates you worked there) - Clear explanation of why your hours were reduced When you talk to the agent: - Tell them you need to open a new claim due to reduced hours - Ask about eligibility and any docs they need After the call, make sure to follow up on any extra steps they give you. Good luck!

•Quick question - do you need to provide pay stubs or anything like that?

•It's always good to have your recent pay stubs handy, but they don't always ask for them upfront. Better to have them and not need them than the other way around!

•I found a way to get through! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, waits on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it's legit. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

•Idk man, paying to get through seems wrong. The system is so broken 🤦♂️

•I get that, but think about how much time and stress it saves. Sometimes you gotta play the game to win 🤷♀️

Make sure you document EVERYTHING. Keep a log of all your calls, who you talked to, and what they said. The EDD can be a real pain sometimes and having a paper trail can save your butt.

•Yeah, you can usually start the process online through the EDD website. But fair warning, you might still need to call at some point to verify info or if there are any issues with your claim.

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. Way better chance of getting through without a million hour wait.

•This! Also, I've had luck calling later in the afternoon, like an hour before they close. Seems like everyone gives up by then lol

Anybody else feel like we need to hire a skywriter to get EDD's attention? 'ANSWER YOUR PHONES' in big letters over Sacramento might do the trick 😂

•LOL I'm down. Let's start a GoFundMe 🤣

•Nah, we should use that money to hire more people to answer the dang phones!

Just a heads up, they might ask about any severance or PTO payout if you got one. That can affect when your benefits start.

Does anyone know if gig work affects unemployment if your regular job cut your hours? I've been doing some food delivery on the side to make ends meet.

•It can affect your weekly benefit amount. You have to report any income you earn, even from gig work. They'll reduce your benefit based on what you earned that week.

•Oof, that's rough. But I guess some money is better than no money. Thanks for the info!
