Starting unemployment claim - tips for navigating EDD's system?
Hey everyone, I'm about to start my unemployment claim and I'm feeling a bit nervous. I've heard it can be a real hassle. I'm planning to wait a couple days to see if things go through on their own. Anyone have any tips or experiences to share? I'm worried about messing something up or having to deal with long wait times.

Ugh, buckle up buddy. Starting an unemployment claim is like trying to swim through molasses. I filed mine last month and it's been nothing but headaches. Make sure you have ALL your documents ready before you start. And I mean EVERYTHING - pay stubs, ID, social security card, the works. Good luck! 🍀

•For real tho. I spent like 3 hours just trying to navigate their website. It's like it was designed by a drunk toddler 🙄

•Nope, definitely not just you. I swear they make it confusing on purpose to discourage people from claiming 🤔

I've been through this rodeo before, and let me tell you, patience is key. Don't expect things to happen overnight. Here's what I'd recommend: 1. Double-check all your info before submitting 2. Keep a record of EVERYTHING 3. Set reminders for your certification dates 4. Be prepared for long hold times if you need to call 5. Check your spam folder regularly Hang in there, OP. It's a process, but you'll get through it!

•This is solid advice right here 💯 Especially the part about keeping records. You never know when you'll need to prove something later.

•Thanks so much for this! I'll definitely follow these steps. Quick question - how often do I need to certify?

•Usually every two weeks, but it can vary. They'll give you specific dates when you file. Just don't miss them or you could delay your payments!

lol good luck calling them. I spent 3 days trying to get through. It's easier to win the lottery than talk to a real person there 🤡

Hey, I know it seems daunting, but don't stress too much. Take it step by step. And remember, if you run into issues, there are usually local organizations that can help guide you through the process for free. Might be worth looking into!

•This! I got help from a local workforce center and it made a huge difference. They knew all the ins and outs.

Protip: If you need to talk to someone, call right when they open. I mean like, set an alarm and be ready to dial the second they open. It's still a wait, but waaaaay better than trying mid-day.

•Facts! I did this and only had to wait 30 minutes instead of 3 hours 😅

Guys, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo. They're legit, just a small startup trying to solve a real problem.

•How long did you have to wait after using the service?

•It took about 2 hours total, but I didn't have to do anything. The service called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than being stuck to my phone all day!

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get benefits we've paid into? The system is broken af 😤

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they're trying to discourage us from using it

•Totally agree. We need to push for reform. This isn't working for anyone except maybe the politicians who don't have to deal with it.

Quick question for anyone who's been through this recently - are they still requiring the extra identity verification steps? I heard they added some new requirements and I'm trying to prepare.

•Yeah, they are. Make sure you have a clear photo of your ID and a recent utility bill or bank statement. They're pretty strict about it.

Hey OP, don't forget to check if you qualify for any additional assistance programs while you're at it. Food stamps, utility assistance, etc. Every little bit helps when you're between jobs.
