Tips for filing unemployment claim? What to have ready before calling EDD?
Hey everyone, I'm about to file for unemployment and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Does anyone have any tips on what I should have ready before I make the call? I want to make sure I'm prepared and don't waste time once I finally get through to someone.

I just went through this process last month. Here's what you need to have ready: • Your Social Security number • Driver's license or state ID • Employment history for the last 18 months (employer names and addresses) • Reason why you're no longer working Make sure you have all this info handy before you call. It'll make the process go much smoother. Good luck!

•Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed. Did they ask you anything else that caught you off guard?

•Glad I could help! They did ask about any severance pay or vacation payout, so have that info ready if it applies to you. Also, be prepared to answer questions about your availability to work.

•I found a way to get through! There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you, waits on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but it saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Wait, seriously? Is that even legit? Sounds too good to be true.

•I was skeptical too, but it worked for me. Saved my sanity after trying to get through for days. Worth every penny imo.

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. You'll have a better chance of getting through before the lines get jammed.

•This! 💯 Also, ask them to repeat anything you don't understand. Better to get it right the first time.

Anyone else feel like they're playing the lottery trying to get through to these people? 🎰🤡

Hey OP, just remember to stay calm and patient when you finally get through. The person on the other end is probably dealing with a ton of calls. Being nice can go a long way!

Does anyone know if they're still doing those extra federal benefits? I heard those might have ended.

•Pretty sure those ended a while back. Now it's just the regular state benefits.

•Yep, the extra $300 is long gone. Back to the bare minimum now 😒

I filed online and it was way easier than calling. Might wanna try that first if you haven't already.

•Oh, I didn't even realize that was an option. I'll definitely look into that. Thanks!

•Online is hit or miss. I tried and got stuck, ended up having to call anyway. But worth a shot I guess.
