What questions will unemployment ask when I file my claim? Need advice ASAP!

Hey everyone, I'm about to file for unemployment and I'm feeling a bit nervous. What kind of questions should I expect when I talk to an agent? I want to make sure I'm prepared and don't mess anything up. Any advice would be really appreciated!

When I filed, they asked me about my last job, why I left, and if I've had any income since then. Make sure you have all your dates and details ready. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! Do you remember if they asked for specific documentation? I'm worried I might not have everything they need.

They didn't ask me for docs during the call, but I had to upload some stuff later on the website. Just have your last few pay stubs handy just in case.

Yeah, and don't forget your social security number! They'll definitely ask for that.

Ugh, good luck getting through to anyone. I've been trying for weeks and can never get past the automated system. 🤬

Same here! It's like they don't want us to actually file. So frustrating!

I found a way to get through! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, waits on hold, and then connects you when an agent picks up. It costs $20 but totally worth it. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

$20 to actually talk to a human? Might be worth it at this point lol

Pro tip: Write down all your answers before you call. They'll ask about your employment history, reason for unemployment, and any other income sources. Having it all in front of you makes it way easier!

Does anyone know if they're still doing those extra federal benefits? I heard those might have ended but I'm not sure.

I think those ended a while ago, but it might depend on your state. Check your local unemployment website for the most up-to-date info.

Here's a comprehensive list of what you need to know and have ready: • Social Security Number • Driver's License or State ID number • Complete work history for the last 18 months (employer names, addresses, phone numbers, start/end dates) • Reason for leaving each job • Bank account info for direct deposit • If you're not a US citizen, have your alien registration number ready • For military service members, have your DD-214 Member 4 form • If you were a federal employee, have your SF-8 and SF-50 forms They might also ask about any pension you're receiving, and if you're able and available to work. Be honest in all your answers. If you're not sure about something, it's okay to say you don't know or need to check. Remember, the agent is there to help you. Don't be nervous! If you don't understand a question, ask for clarification. It's better to take a moment to understand than to give incorrect information. Good luck with your claim!

anyone else feel like the whole system is designed to be as confusing as possible? šŸ¤” like they're trying to discourage us from claiming what we're entitled to

Preach! šŸ™Œ It's a maze of bureaucracy and it suuuucks

Tin foil hat time: what if it IS intentionally confusing? šŸ‘€

Nah, never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. The system's just old and underfunded.

Quick question - do they ask about freelance work or like, small gigs? I've been doing some online stuff to make ends meet while job hunting.

0 coins

Yes, they do! Make sure to report ANY income, even if it's just a few bucks. Better safe than sorry.

Oof, okay. Guess I better start tallying everything up. Thanks!

Hey OP, don't stress too much. I was super nervous too but the agent I talked to was actually really nice and walked me through everything. You got this!

Just wanted to add - if you get disconnected during the call (which happens sometimes), don't panic! You can call back and they'll be able to see that you already started the process. Also, they might put you on a brief hold while they input information, so don't hang up thinking the call dropped. The whole process took me about 45 minutes when I filed. You're going to do great!

This is so reassuring to hear! I was worried that if something went wrong during the call I'd have to start all over again. 45 minutes doesn't sound too bad either - I was expecting it to take way longer. Thanks for sharing your experience!
