Just filed for unemployment - what to expect and how long until I hear back?
Hey everyone, I need some advice. I just filed an unemployment claim and I'm not sure what to expect next. How long does it usually take to hear back? And does anyone know if they'll ask about my last job? I'm a bit nervous about the whole process.

Welcome to the club, buddy. 🙃 I filed my claim about a month ago, and let me tell you, it's been a wild ride. The waiting game is real.

•A month?! Jeez, I hope it doesn't take that long for everyone. I'm already stressed enough as it is.

Ok, here's the deal. I've been through this process a couple times now, so I'll try to break it down for you: 1. After you file, it usually takes about 2-3 weeks to get your first response. But with the current backlog, it might take longer. 2. Yes, they'll definitely ask about your last job. Make sure you have all the details ready - dates of employment, reason for leaving, etc. 3. You might need to do a phone interview. Don't panic, it's just to verify info. 4. Once approved, you'll need to certify for benefits every two weeks. 5. Be patient and keep checking your online account for updates. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Has anyone else had issues with the online portal? I swear it's down half the time I try to log in.

•Pro tip: try logging in early in the morning or late at night. Less traffic = fewer issues

Hey guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•I know, it sucks that we have to pay. But for me, it was worth it to finally get some answers.

Anyone else feel like they're playing unemployment roulette? Never know if you're gonna hit the jackpot (aka actually get your benefits) or go home broke 🎰

Quick question - do they contact your previous employer? I left on... let's just say not the best terms 😬

•Yeah, they usually do. But don't worry too much, they're mainly checking dates and reason for separation.

PSA: Make sure you're answering those certification questions correctly! One wrong answer can delay your payments for weeks.

Hey Diego! I just went through this process about 6 months ago, so I totally get the nerves. One thing that really helped me was keeping a detailed log of everything - dates I applied, any emails or letters I received, confirmation numbers, etc. The EDD system can be glitchy and sometimes things get lost in the shuffle. Also, don't stress too much about the job questions - just be honest and have your employment dates ready. The whole process feels overwhelming at first but once you get into the rhythm of certifying every two weeks, it becomes routine. You've got this! 👍

•This is such solid advice! I wish I had thought to keep a log when I first applied. I've been scrambling to remember dates and details whenever they ask for something. Definitely going to start doing this now - better late than never! @ce65b714cb71 thanks for the tip about being honest with the job questions too, that's reassuring to hear.
