New York Unemployment Virtual Meeting Tips Needed for Friday
Got my first virtual meeting with unemployment on Friday and really nervous about it. Never done this before and want to make sure I dont mess anything up. What should I prepare? What should I expect?

Make sure you have ALL your documents ready - wage statements, employee ID, social security card, drivers license or state ID, and any correspondence from your previous employer. Also have your work search records handy they ALWAYS ask for those π

β’Yep Indeed counts! Screenshot everything tho and save the confirmation emails. They want to see at least 3 job searches per week minimum.

If ur having trouble getting thru to schedule try claimyr.com - they got me connected to someone in like 30 mins. Cost $20 but worth every penny instead of calling for days. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Here's everything you need to know (I've done 3 of these meetings): - Log in 10 mins early - Have a notepad ready to take notes - Keep your claim ID number handy - Dress professionally (yes, they notice) - Make sure your background is clean and professional - Have your last day of work and exact reason for separation ready - List of all employers from the last 18 months - Proof of income (W2s, pay stubs) - Work search records organized by week If you're having trouble getting through on the phone for any follow-up, use claimyr.com - they're a lifesaver. Good luck! π

Don't stress too much! I just had mine last week and it went smoother than expected. One thing I wish I knew - they might ask about any gig work or side income you've had, even if it was just a few hours here and there. Be honest about everything because they can cross-reference with other databases. Also, if you get disconnected (happens sometimes), don't panic - just call back immediately and they'll usually reconnect you. You got this! πͺ

β’This is so helpful! I didn't even think about the gig work thing - I did some DoorDash a few months ago so I'll make sure to mention that. Thanks for the tip about calling back if disconnected too, that would have totally freaked me out! π

One more tip - if they ask about your availability to work, be specific! Don't just say "anytime" - give them actual hours like "Monday through Friday 8am-6pm, weekends flexible" or whatever works for you. They want to see that you're genuinely available and actively seeking work. Also keep your phone nearby in case they need to call you directly after the meeting for any follow-up questions. The whole process is way less scary than it seems, you'll do great! π

β’This is such great advice! I wouldn't have thought to be that specific about availability - I was totally going to just say "anytime" π The phone tip is smart too, I'll definitely keep it close by. You all are making me feel so much more confident about Friday, thank you! π

Just want to echo what everyone else is saying - you're going to do fine! One thing that really helped me was having a glass of water nearby during the call. I got so nervous I had dry mouth halfway through π Also, if you don't understand a question, don't be afraid to ask them to repeat it or clarify - they're used to people being nervous and they'd rather you ask than guess wrong. The person I spoke with was actually pretty nice and patient. Take a deep breath, you've got all the prep you need from this thread! Good luck on Friday! π€
