How to submit job search logs during virtual WorkSource meetings for ESD phone claims?
I've been filing my weekly claims by phone (can't use the online system because of my ancient computer), and I'm freaking out about my upcoming mandatory WorkSource meeting. It's virtual and happening in about two weeks. My biggest concern: How do I submit my job search logs during a virtual meeting? I've been writing everything down on paper since I started claiming. I know ESD has a printable form, but I don't have a printer or scanner at home. Has anyone done one of these virtual WorkSource meetings recently? What was the process like? Did they ask to see your job search logs immediately or give you time to submit them? Did they want to see your resume too? This is my first time on unemployment (got laid off after 8 years at the same construction company), and I'm worried about messing something up and losing my benefits. Thanks for any advice!

I had my virtual WorkSource orientation last month. Here's how it went: - They used Microsoft Teams for the meeting - About 12 people attended - Lasted around 90 minutes - They explained job search requirements (3 activities per week) - Reviewed resume writing tips and WorkSource resources - Showed us how to use WorkSourceWA.com Regarding job search logs: They didn't collect them during the meeting but explained we need to keep them for at least 3 years. They might request them for verification randomly. For your situation since you're filing by phone, I recommend creating a digital version of your handwritten logs. You could take photos of your paper logs with your phone and email them to yourself as backup. Or use the free ESD job search log template - you can get it at a local library if you don't have a printer.

•Thanks for the detailed breakdown! 90 minutes isn't as bad as I was expecting. Did they send the Teams link via email? I've never used Teams before so hopefully it's not complicated. The photo idea is smart - I'll start taking pictures of my handwritten logs just to be safe. Do you know if they expect you to share your screen during these meetings? I'm planning to use my phone for the meeting since my computer is so unreliable.

DONT STRESS IT TOO MUCH. my virtual meeting was super basic, they didnt even ask for my logs at all!! just explained stuff we mostly already knew lol. but keep ur logs anyway cause ESD can ask for them randomly later. the WorkSource ppl arent actually checking if ur doing the job search stuff thats more on the ESD side

•While the WorkSource orientation meetings typically don't involve reviewing your job search logs directly, it's important to understand that WorkSource and ESD do work together. ESD can request your job search logs at any time, and being selected for a job search review is random but happens regularly. Keeping accurate, detailed logs is essential regardless of how you file your weekly claims (phone or online). Each entry should include the date, employer contact information, position, application method, and result.

I went through this exact situation in January, and I was also filing by phone! For the virtual meeting, they sent me a link through email a day before. I used my smartphone to join. They didn't collect job search logs during the meeting, but they did tell us to be ready for random audits where we'd need to submit them. Since I was also keeping paper records, I started taking pictures of my logs after each entry just to have a digital backup. One thing that really helped me - I was having TERRIBLE luck getting through to ESD by phone to ask questions about this stuff. I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual ESD agent within 30 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 I used it to confirm exactly what I needed for the WorkSource meeting and it saved me so much stress. The agent told me they just need you to participate in the workshop, not turn in documents during it.

•Claimyr is legit? I've been trying to get through to ESD for 4 days now!! My claim is stuck on pending and I can't figure out why. If this actually works I'm going to try it tomorrow.

•Yeah, it worked for me! I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days. Was connected to an actual ESD rep in about 25 minutes. Just FYI they don't handle your claim - they just connect you directly to ESD so you can talk to an agent about your pending status.

just had my virtual mtg last week. they SAID they might ask for logs but never did lol. whole thing was kinda a waste of time tbh. just them explaining how to use worksource website and talking about resumes and stuff. btw if ur using your phone to file weekly claims u should still be able to see the job log form on the esd website from ur phone browser. i take screenshots of the form and fill it out later

•That's good to know they didn't actually collect the logs! Makes me less stressed. I hadn't thought about accessing the form through my phone browser - that's smart. I've just been writing everything on notebook paper which feels risky if they ever do audit me.

I recommend creating a digital backup of your job search logs regardless of how your WorkSource meeting goes. My experience with ESD has shown they're unpredictable with when they request documentation. For your situation, consider these options: 1. Use the Notes app on your phone to maintain a digital record with dates, company names, positions, application methods, and results. 2. Visit your local library - they often offer free computer use, printing and scanning services. 3. Take clear photos of your handwritten logs and email them to yourself. During my virtual WorkSource meeting in February, they focused on training rather than verification. However, when ESD randomly selected me for a job search review two months later, I had just 5 days to submit all my logs. Having digital copies made this much easier. Remember: WorkSource meetings and ESD job search reviews are separate processes. Be prepared for both!

•This is super helpful, thank you! I hadn't even thought about random reviews after the WorkSource meeting. Going to start digitizing everything now. The library is a great tip - there's one about 10 minutes from me that I could use. Did they give you any indication during the WorkSource meeting about how likely the random reviews are?

•They didn't give specific odds during my WorkSource meeting, but the facilitator mentioned reviews happen regularly. From conversations with other claimants, it seems like 15-20% of people get reviewed at some point during their claim period. First-time claimants might be selected more frequently, but that's just my observation. The library option is definitely worth exploring. Many libraries also offer job search assistance programs that count as job search activities for your weekly claims!

I've been on unemployment three times in WA state and every time the rules are different!! So frustrating. Last time (2023) I did the virtual WorkSource thing and we had like 20 ppl on Zoom and they just talked at us for an hour. They didn't collect anything but said "keep your logs because you might get audited." I think as long as you're actually doing your job searches and documenting them somehow you'll be fine. Just make sure you're doing all 3 activities each week!!!

I work as an employment counselor who frequently assists people with ESD-related questions, so I can provide some clarity: 1. For virtual WorkSource meetings (officially called Initial Intake Appointments or Reemployment Services), you typically won't need to present your job search logs during the meeting itself. These sessions focus on orientation to services. 2. However, ESD conducts random Job Search Reviews separate from WorkSource meetings. If selected, you'll receive notification via your preferred contact method (mail/email) with instructions. 3. For phone claimants without digital access, ESD provides several accommodation options: - Request a paper job search log be mailed to you by calling the claims center - Use public library resources for printing/scanning - Request reasonable accommodations if you have limitations 4. During your WorkSource meeting, they'll likely explain the various services available to help with your job search and reemployment. They may also discuss your career goals and skills. 5. I strongly recommend documenting each job search activity thoroughly, regardless of format. Include date, employer name, position, contact information, application method, and outcome. Hope this helps ease your concerns about the upcoming meeting!

•This is EXACTLY what I needed to know! Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I'll call the claims center tomorrow to see if they can mail me the official log forms - that seems like the safest approach. I've been documenting everything but not as formally as I probably should be.

honestly the whole ESD system is a mess right now. my friend had her worksource meeting and they never even checked if she was doing her job searches. then 2 months later she got audited and almost lost benefits cause she wasnt keeping good records!!! so unfair

•This is unfortunately common. The WorkSource meetings and ESD job search verification are handled by different departments with limited communication between them. WorkSource provides services but isn't primarily focused on enforcement, while ESD's review team specifically checks compliance. This separation can create a false sense of security when WorkSource doesn't review your logs. Always document as if you'll be audited because the chance of random selection remains throughout your entire claim period.
