My EDD customer service experience - can't reach anyone for weeks
I've been trying to get through to my EDD customer service for over 3 weeks now. Every single day I call the 800-300-5616 number following the 1-wait-1-1-*** pattern but I just keep getting that horrible 'we're too busy' message. I've probably made 200+ attempts at this point. My claim has been stuck in pending status and I desperately need to talk to someone about my EDD customer service options. Has anyone actually gotten through recently? I'm starting to think their customer service doesn't even exist.

Same boat here. Been calling for 2 weeks straight, best I got was on hold for 45 minutes before it dropped. The EDD customer service system is completely broken.

•At least you got on hold! I haven't even made it that far. Just busy signal after busy signal.

•Try calling right at 8am when they open. I've had better luck in the morning before everyone else starts calling.

You need to avoid calling between 12pm and 1:30pm - that's when they all take lunch and nobody answers. Also Mondays are impossible.

•Wait, the entire EDD customer service department takes lunch at the same time? That's insane!

Mateo Silva
•Yep, it's like a ghost town during lunch hours. Complete waste of time to call then.

Honestly after 3 weeks of this I broke down and used Claimyr. Got through to EDD customer service in 20 minutes. Yeah it costs money but my sanity is worth more than spending entire days redialing.

•Is that legit? I'm so desperate at this point I'd pay anything to actually talk to someone.

•Totally legit, check their reviews. They dial for you and call you back when they get an agent on the line. Way better than this manual calling nightmare.

•I was skeptical too but used it last week. Got connected to EDD customer service in 15 minutes. Best $20 I ever spent.

The key is to press the menu options BEFORE the prompts finish. Saves 30 seconds per call which adds up when you're making 50+ attempts.

•I'll try that! Every second counts when you're redialing constantly.

•This trick helped me get through last month. Press 1 as soon as you hear 'for English', then wait exactly 70 seconds before pressing 1-1-***.

Pro tip: The 833 number and 800 number go to the exact same place. Don't waste time switching between them thinking one is better.

•Good to know! I was alternating between both thinking it might help somehow.

•Wish I knew this sooner. Wasted so much time thinking the 833 line was special.

Wednesday afternoons around 2pm seem to be the sweet spot. That's when I finally got through to my EDD customer service rep after weeks of trying.

•I'll definitely try Wednesday at 2pm. At this point I'll try any time that might work better.

•Confirmed - Wednesday and Thursday afternoons are way better than Monday mornings or Friday afternoons.

•Never call after 4pm any day. They seem to stop picking up new calls even though they're supposedly open until 5.

I got through yesterday after 87 attempts. Took me 6 hours of constant redialing. The EDD customer service agent was helpful but man, what a waste of time.

•87 attempts in one day?! That's dedication but also insane that it should take that much effort.

•Yeah, I literally made it a full time job. Set up my phone on speaker and just kept hitting redial while working on my laptop.

FYI there's no special 'specialist line' anymore like people claim online. All those tricks about pressing different numbers to reach specialists don't work post-pandemic.

•Thank you for clarifying! I've seen those 'secret menu' tricks everywhere but they never worked for me.

•So much misinformation out there. The 1-wait-1-1-*** pattern is the only way to reach a live person now.

Just a heads up - even when you do get on hold, there's like a 30-50% chance the call will drop. Happened to me 3 times last week after waiting 2+ hours each time.

Nick Kravitz
•This is my biggest fear! I can't imagine waiting 2 hours just to have it disconnect.

•The dropped calls are the worst part. You invest all that time and get nothing. That's actually why I ended up using that Claimyr service.

Victoria Jones
•Exactly why automated calling is worth it. No more dropped calls wasting hours of your life.

I called 300 times over 2 weeks before giving up and trying Claimyr. Got connected to EDD customer service in 25 minutes. Should have done it from the start.

Nick Kravitz
•300 times?! How do you even keep track? I think I'm already past 200 myself.

•I kept a tally on my phone notepad. Became an obsession honestly. The auto-dialer saved my sanity.

•I'm in the same boat, made a spreadsheet tracking my attempts. This is getting ridiculous - might have to try that service too.

Word of warning: don't call on your cell if you have limited minutes. I burned through my entire monthly plan in 3 days of constant redialing.

Nick Kravitz
•Oh no, I didn't even think about that! I'm probably close to my limit too.

•Use WiFi calling if your phone supports it. Saves your cellular minutes for all those redial attempts.

Set your alarm for 7:30am, have coffee ready, and start dialing at 7:55am before they officially open. Sometimes you can get in the queue early.

•I'll try the early morning approach tomorrow. Can't hurt to get ahead of the rush.

•Early bird strategy worked for me last month. Got on hold by 8:05am and actually talked to someone by 9:30am.

•Make sure you have breakfast ready the night before. You don't want to waste time eating when you should be dialing.

The most frustrating part about EDD customer service is how they don't tell you about the lunch break. Complete radio silence from 12-1:30pm but nowhere does it say that officially.
0 coins
Nick Kravitz
•That's so misleading! They should at least update their hours to reflect when they're actually available.

Ella Knight
•It's like a secret that you only learn through wasted hours of calling during lunch. Very frustrating lack of transparency.

Been tracking my attempts in a notebook. 47 calls Monday, 52 calls Tuesday, 61 calls Wednesday. Finally got through Thursday with call #38 around 2:15pm.

Nick Kravitz
•You're keeping better records than I am! That's almost 200 calls in 4 days.

•Yeah I got obsessive about it. Wanted to find patterns in when I was most likely to get through to EDD customer service.

•What pattern did you find? Thursday afternoons seem to be mentioned a lot in this thread.

Just got off the phone after a 2 hour 20 minute hold. The EDD customer service rep was super helpful but man, that's half my day gone just waiting.

•Congrats on getting through! What time did you call to get on hold?

•Called at 1:45pm on a Wednesday. Took about 30 redials to get past the busy message.

For those considering the auto-dial services, I used one called Claimyr and it really works. Connected me to EDD customer service in 35 minutes. Here's their demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10

•Thanks for the link! 35 minutes vs weeks of manual calling seems like a no-brainer at this point.

•Can confirm it works great. Used it twice now and both times got connected quickly. Check out claimyr.com

My strategy: call right at 8am, keep redialing until 11:30am, take a break during lunch, then call again from 1:30pm until 4pm. Rinse and repeat daily.

Nick Kravitz
•That's basically a part-time job! How long did it take you to get through with this schedule?

•About 8 days of this routine before I finally reached EDD customer service. It was exhausting but I was determined.

Don't fall for the 'try a different number' advice. All the EDD customer service numbers route to the same place. 800-300-5616 is your best bet.

Nick Kravitz
•Good to know! I was about to start trying random department numbers hoping one would be less busy.

•I wasted a whole day calling different numbers thinking I was being clever. They all just transfer you to the main line anyway.

Update: Finally bit the bullet and paid for the auto-dialer. Got through to my EDD customer service rep in 18 minutes. Kicking myself for not doing this weeks ago.

Nick Kravitz
•18 minutes?! I've spent more time than that just on hold waiting for the busy signal. Definitely considering it now.

Zoey Bianchi
•Seriously, do it. The time and frustration you save is worth way more than the small fee. I got my issue resolved same day.

Reality check: I calculated I spent over 40 hours trying to reach EDD customer service manually. That's a full work week down the drain for a 15-minute conversation.

Nick Kravitz
•When you put it that way, paying for help makes total sense. My time is worth something too.

Aurora St.Pierre
•Exactly my thinking. Even at minimum wage, 40 hours is way more than what these callback services charge.
