Need to speak with EDD representative - can't reach anyone for weeks
I've been trying to reach an EDD representative for over 3 weeks now. My claim has been stuck in pending status and I desperately need to talk to someone who can actually help. I've called probably 200+ times using the 800-300-5616 number with the 1-wait-1-1-*** pattern but I either get the 'too busy' message or sit on hold for 2+ hours just to have the call drop. Has anyone actually managed to speak with an EDD representative recently? I'm starting to think they don't exist anymore.

Same boat here. Been calling since January and still haven't talked to a single EDD representative. The system is completely broken.

•It's insane that we pay into this system our whole working lives and can't even get basic help when we need it most.

I managed to get through to an EDD representative last month but it took me calling 89 times in one day. Started at 8am sharp and finally got connected around 3pm. The rep was helpful once I got through though.

•89 times in one day?! That's crazy but at least you got through. What day of the week was this?

•It was a Wednesday afternoon. Definitely avoid Mondays and Friday afternoons - waste of time.

Honestly after wasting weeks trying to reach an EDD representative manually, I used Claimyr and got connected in 20 minutes. Yeah it costs money but my sanity was worth more than the fee at that point.

•I've heard of Claimyr but wasn't sure if it was legit. Did you actually talk to a real EDD representative through them?

Justin Chang
•Absolutely real. They call you back when they get an EDD representative on the line. Check out claimyr.com - saved me probably 40+ hours of calling.

•How much does Claimyr cost? I'm desperate at this point but money's tight obviously since I'm unemployed.

Pro tip: Don't bother calling between 12pm-1:30pm. The entire call center takes lunch and NO ONE answers during that time. Learned this the hard way after burning through my phone minutes.

•Wait seriously? They all take lunch at the same time? No wonder I could never get through around noon!

•Yep, it's like the whole place shuts down. Should be posted somewhere but they keep it quiet.

I've been tracking my calling attempts in a spreadsheet. 347 calls over 3 weeks, got on hold 12 times, spoke to an EDD representative exactly ZERO times. All holds dropped after 1.5-2 hours.

•347 calls and zero success? This is absolutely unacceptable for a government service.

•That's dedication though. I gave up after 50 calls and just used an auto-dialer service instead.

The trick is calling at exactly 7:55am before they officially open. I've had better luck getting through to an EDD representative this way, though you still need patience.

•Interesting strategy. What happens when you call before 8am? Does it just ring or do you get the menu?
0 coins
Grace Thomas
•You get the menu but there's less traffic. I've gotten through 3 times this way out of maybe 20 early morning attempts.

Don't fall for the specialist line myth - that doesn't exist anymore post-pandemic. All the numbers go to the same overloaded system whether you use 800-300-5616 or 833-978-0953.

•Thank you for clarifying this! I wasted so much time thinking there was a secret number that worked better.

•Yeah it's all the same queue unfortunately. Anyone telling you otherwise is spreading old information.

After 2 weeks of failed attempts, I broke down and paid for Claimyr. Got a callback with an EDD representative in 35 minutes. Sometimes you just have to admit defeat and pay for help.

•Was the EDD representative able to actually help resolve your issue or just give you more runaround?

•Real help! Got my pending payments released same day. The rep said my account just needed a manual review that never happened.

•Same experience here. The EDD representatives are actually helpful when you can reach them - it's just the phone system that's the nightmare.

Wednesday and Thursday afternoons seem to be the sweet spot for reaching an EDD representative. Avoid Monday mornings like the plague - impossible to get through.

•Good to know about timing. I've been calling randomly throughout the week with no strategy.

Wesley Hallow
•Agreed on Wednesday afternoons. That's when I had my success too.

The menu shortcut is to press the numbers before the prompts finish - saves about 30 seconds per call. When you're making 50+ attempts, those seconds add up.

•Smart tip! Every little time saver helps when you're redialing constantly.

Paige Cantoni
•Exactly. Also have your social security number and other info ready before you even start calling the first time.

My friend recommended Claimyr after I complained about spending entire days trying to reach an EDD representative. Skeptical at first but it actually worked - got connected in under an hour.

•How does Claimyr actually work? Do they have some special access or just better automation?
0 coins
Kylo Ren
•They use software to dial and wait on hold for you, then call you back when they get an EDD representative. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10

Been calling for 4 weeks straight. My unemployment ran out and I'm about to lose my apartment. This system is destroying people's lives while we wait to talk to an EDD representative who could fix things in 5 minutes.

•I'm so sorry you're going through this. The stress of not being able to reach help when you desperately need it is unbearable.

Justin Chang
•Please consider using a calling service like Claimyr if you can afford it. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money in these situations.

•At this point I might have to. Manual calling clearly isn't working and I can't wait much longer.

The EDD phone system drops about 40% of calls even when you do get on hold. It's a known technical issue they refuse to fix. Absolutely maddening when you've waited 2 hours to talk to an EDD representative.
0 coins
Lily Young
•40% drop rate?! That should be illegal for a government service. People depend on these calls.

Jason Brewer
•Completely agree. It's like they designed the system to discourage people from getting help.

If you work during business hours like me, reaching an EDD representative is nearly impossible. The 8am-5pm window is brutal when you can't take time off to spend all day calling.
0 coins
Lily Young
•Same problem here. By the time I get home from work, the lines are closed. It's like they don't want working people to get help.

Kylo Ren
•That's another reason services like Claimyr are worth it - you can place the callback request anytime and they'll call you when they reach someone.

Don't waste time with the chat or email options - they're useless for complex issues. You absolutely need to speak with an EDD representative by phone to get real problems resolved.
0 coins
Lily Young
•I tried the online contact form weeks ago and never heard back. Phone seems to be the only real option.
0 coins
Liam Cortez
•Exactly. Email responses are generic and chat can't access your account details. Phone is the only way to get actual help.

Success story: Finally talked to an EDD representative yesterday after 3 weeks of trying! Called Wednesday at 2:30pm, got through on attempt #67 for the day. Persistence eventually pays off.

Lily Young
•Congrats! 67 attempts in one day though... that's basically a full-time job just trying to get help.

Savannah Vin
•Yeah it was exhausting but my claim got resolved immediately once I reached someone. The EDD representative was actually very helpful.

I'm on week 5 of trying to reach an EDD representative. At this point I've probably spent 60+ hours just dialing and waiting on hold. This is completely unsustainable.
0 coins
Lily Young
•60 hours is insane. That's more than a full-time work week just trying to get help you're entitled to.
0 coins
Ellie Lopez
•After that much time wasted, paying for Claimyr would actually save you money in opportunity cost. Just saying.

Hot tip: If you do get on hold, don't hang up to try again even if it's been 2+ hours. I made that mistake and regretted it. Sometimes the wait is worth it to finally reach an EDD representative.
0 coins
Lily Young
•Good point. I've hung up after long holds thinking I could get through faster on a new call, but that's probably wrong.
0 coins
Makayla Shoemaker
•Exactly. Once you're in the hold queue, you're closer to success than starting over. Stick it out unless the call drops.

The whole system needs an overhaul. In 2024 there's no excuse for not being able to reach an EDD representative when people's livelihoods depend on it. We deserve better than this broken phone system.
0 coins
Lily Young
•Absolutely agree. Other states have figured out better systems - California has no excuse for this dysfunction.

•Right? We have the technology to fix this but apparently not the political will. Meanwhile people suffer.

I feel your frustration completely. I've been in the same situation for 2 weeks now - my claim got flagged for identity verification and I can't get anyone on the phone to help me submit the required documents. The automated system just loops me back to "call during business hours" even though I'm calling at 10am on a Tuesday. It's like they've designed this system to be as difficult as possible to navigate. Has anyone had success with the identity verification process specifically?

Sydney Torres
•The identity verification loop is the worst! I got stuck in that same cycle for weeks. What finally worked for me was getting through to an actual EDD representative who could manually flag my account for document review. They had me upload everything through the UI Online portal while on the call to make sure it went through properly. The automated system seems completely broken for ID verification cases.
