I can't get through to EDD no matter what I try - 6 days straight calling
I've been trying to reach EDD for almost a week now and I literally can't get through to EDD at all. Started Monday morning at 8am sharp, been calling the 800-300-5616 number following the 1-wait-1-1-*** pattern I found online. I've probably made 200+ attempts just today alone. Keep getting that 'we're too busy to take your call' message or it just hangs up on me. My claim got flagged for some identity verification and I need to talk to someone urgently or I'm going to lose my apartment. Has anyone actually gotten through recently? What am I doing wrong?

Same boat here. Been calling for 3 days straight, no luck whatsoever. The system seems completely broken.

•It's insane that this is how they expect people to get help. I'm spending 8 hours a day just redialing the same number.

•Try calling right at 7:55am before they officially open. Sometimes you can get in the queue early.

The EDD phone system drops about 30-50% of calls even if you do get through to hold. It's a known technical issue they haven't fixed.

•That's horrible! So even if I somehow get on hold, there's a 50% chance it'll just disconnect?

Mia Roberts
•Exactly. I've had calls drop after 2+ hours on hold multiple times. It's soul crushing.

I was in your exact situation last month - couldn't get through for weeks. Finally broke down and used Claimyr after my friend recommended it. Got a callback with an EDD agent in about 25 minutes instead of spending entire days redialing.

•What's Claimyr? Is that some kind of calling service?

The Boss
•Yeah, it's claimyr.com - they basically call EDD for you automatically and then connect you when they reach an agent. Costs money but honestly saved my sanity.

•I was skeptical about paying for something like that but after 50+ failed attempts, I tried it too. Worth every penny.

Don't waste your time calling between noon and 1:30pm. The entire call center takes lunch and literally nobody answers during that window.

•Are you serious? The whole call center shuts down for lunch? No wonder I couldn't get through yesterday afternoon!

•Dead serious. They don't advertise this but it's 100% true. Save yourself the frustration and don't call during lunch.

•This explains so much! I was wondering why I got nothing but busy signals between 12-1pm every day.

Wednesday and Thursday afternoons around 2-3pm seem to be the best times based on my experience. Avoid Monday mornings completely - everyone calls then.

•Good to know! I've been calling Monday mornings thinking I'd beat the rush but sounds like that's actually the worst time.

•Friday afternoons are pointless too. Even if you get through, you won't get your issue resolved until the following week.

Pro tip: press the menu numbers before the prompts finish. You can save 20-30 seconds per call which adds up when you're redialing 100+ times.

Kayla Jacobson
•Never thought of that! Every second counts when you're making this many attempts.

•Exactly. Also both the 833-978-7653 and 800-300-5616 numbers go to the same place, so don't bother switching between them.

I kept a log of my calling attempts for 2 weeks. Out of 847 calls, I got through to hold 3 times. 2 of those calls dropped after 90+ minutes on hold.

•847 calls?! That's dedication but also terrifying that the success rate is that low.

•The math is brutal. Even when everything goes right, you're looking at 1.5-2 hours minimum from start to finish.

•This is exactly why I switched to using an auto-dialer service. The manual approach is just not sustainable.

Don't fall for the 'specialist line' rumors online. That was only during the pandemic and doesn't exist anymore. Stick to the main unemployment line.

•Thanks for clarifying! I saw some old posts about different numbers but wasn't sure if they still worked.

•All those old tricks from 2020-2021 are outdated now. The system changed after the pandemic ended.

My phone bill went crazy from all the calling. Had to switch to unlimited minutes because I was going over my plan every week just trying to reach EDD.

•I didn't even think about that! I should check my usage - I've been calling nonstop for days.

•Use WiFi calling if you can. At least then you're not eating up your cellular minutes.

•This is another reason why paying for a callback service makes sense. You're probably spending more on phone overage charges anyway.

I finally got through last week after 12 days of trying. Called Wednesday at 2:15pm, took 67 attempts that day but I made it to hold. Waited 1 hour 43 minutes but the agent was super helpful once I got connected.

•That gives me hope! What was different about that Wednesday? Just lucky timing?

•I think Wednesday afternoons really are the sweet spot. Also I started pressing the menu buttons faster like someone else mentioned.

•67 attempts in one day... that's basically a full-time job just to make one phone call!

Used Claimyr twice now and both times got connected in under 40 minutes. First time I was skeptical but desperate. Now I just use it automatically when I need to reach EDD. Here's their demo video if you want to see how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10

•40 minutes vs what I'm going through now... that's a no-brainer. How much does it cost?

Matthew Sanchez
•I think it was like $20 something. Considering I was about to lose a day of work to keep calling, it paid for itself immediately.

•Same experience here. Went from spending entire days calling to getting callbacks during my lunch break.

Don't call after 4pm any day of the week. They seem to stop taking new calls even though they're officially open until 5pm.

•Good to know! I was planning to try calling after work today but sounds like that's a waste of time.

•Yeah, stick to morning and early afternoon. Late day calling is basically guaranteed failure.

The key is managing expectations. You need to be prepared to dedicate an entire day or multiple days just to get on hold. Then pray the call doesn't drop.

Kayla Jacobson
•That's exactly what's been so frustrating - I keep thinking 'this next call will be the one' but it never is.

•I went through the same cycle. Eventually realized my time was worth more than the cost of getting help with the calling.

•This is why the callback services exist. They're filling a real need that EDD created with their broken phone system.

Started at 7:50am this morning, it's now 3pm and I've made 156 calls. Got the busy signal every single time. This system is absolutely broken.

•156 calls in one day... this is insane that we have to go through this just to get help with our own benefits.

•Right? I have a college degree and I'm spending my entire day redialing the same number like it's my job.

•At some point you have to cut your losses and find another way. I wish I'd done that sooner instead of wasting weeks of my life.

For anyone still trying manually: make sure you're calling M-F between 8am-5pm Pacific. Don't waste time calling weekends or outside business hours.

Kayla Jacobson
•Thanks for the reminder. Sometimes when you're desperate you start thinking maybe they answer after hours.

•Nope, strictly business hours only. And remember that lunch break from 12-1:30 when nobody answers.

I'm going through the exact same nightmare right now. Been calling for 4 days straight and can't get through either. My unemployment got suspended and I have bills due next week. Reading all these comments about hundreds of calls just to maybe get on hold is terrifying. Starting to think I need to look into those callback services people are mentioning because this manual calling approach clearly isn't working for any of us.
