EDD customer service edd phone system completely broken - 6 hours calling today

I've been trying to reach EDD customer service edd representatives all day and their phone system is absolutely useless. Started calling at 8am sharp, it's now 2pm and I've made probably 200+ attempts. Every single time I get through the menu (1-wait-1-1-***) it just says 'too busy' and hangs up. Not even getting to hold anymore. My claim has been pending for 3 weeks and I desperately need to speak with someone about missing documentation they supposedly need. Has anyone actually gotten through to EDD customer service edd agents recently or is this system just completely dead?

Same boat here. Been calling since Monday and haven't even gotten on hold once. The 'too busy' message is all I hear. Starting to think their customer service edd department just doesn't exist anymore.

Right? Like how can an entire government agency just not answer phones? This is insane.

It's been like this for months. The system can't handle the volume but they won't fix it or hire more agents.

Don't call between 12-1:30pm. The entire customer service edd call center takes lunch at the same time. Found this out after wasting 2 hours calling during their break.

Wait, they ALL go to lunch at once? No wonder I couldn't get through around noon!

That's actually helpful to know. Still doesn't explain why I can't get through at 8:30am though.

I was in the same situation last month - couldn't reach EDD customer service edd for weeks. Finally gave up on manual calling and used Claimyr. Got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. Yeah it costs money but honestly saved my sanity.

Never heard of Claimyr. Is it legit? At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything.

Totally legit. Check out claimyr.com - they basically auto-dial for you and call you back when they get an agent on the line. There's even a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10

I've seen ads for these services but wasn't sure if they actually work. How much did it cost?

Try calling Wednesday afternoons around 2-3pm. That's when I've had the most luck getting through to EDD customer service edd. Avoid Mondays completely - they're swamped from weekend backlog.

I'll try that tomorrow. Today was clearly a waste - probably should have known Monday would be terrible.

Wednesday worked for me too but still took 67 attempts and then 2 hour hold. Be prepared for a full day commitment.

The menu shortcut is press 1, wait exactly 70 seconds, then 1-1-***. Don't press the stars too fast or it kicks you out. Also both the 800 and 833 numbers go to the exact same place.

•

Good tip about waiting 70 seconds. I was pressing 1 immediately after the English prompt.

The 833 number myth needs to die. It's literally the same line as 800-300-5616. Waste of time switching between them.

Been tracking my calls in a spreadsheet for 2 weeks. Best success rate is 2:30-4pm on Wednesday/Thursday. Worst is any time on Monday or after 4pm any day. EDD customer service edd basically stops taking new calls after 4 even though they're open until 5.

•

You're keeping a spreadsheet? That's dedication. What's your overall success rate?

0 coins

About 1 in 85 attempts gets me to hold. Of those, maybe 60% actually connect before dropping. It's brutal.

0 coins

Those numbers are depressing but probably accurate. No wonder people are paying for calling services.

Just got off a 2.5 hour hold that dropped right when someone picked up. I actually heard a person say 'hello' then the line went dead. I'm done with manual calling - going to try that Claimyr thing people mentioned.

That's the worst! Getting so close and then having it drop. I'd lose my mind.

Maya Diaz

That's exactly why I switched to Claimyr. Their system stays on hold for you so even if it drops, they just redial automatically.

PSA: There is NO special 'tier 2' or specialist line anymore. That ended when COVID restrictions lifted. Anyone telling you to ask for transfers to special numbers is giving old info that doesn't work.

0 coins

Thank you! I wasted hours asking to be transferred to a 'specialist' because some YouTube video said to do that.

Yeah I saw those old forum posts too. Good to know they're outdated.

My coworker used Claimyr last week and got through in 35 minutes. She said it was the best $20 she ever spent because she was about to miss rent without her EDD money. Sometimes you just have to pay to skip the broken system.

That's not too expensive if it actually works. Better than taking unpaid time off work to call all day.

I was skeptical about paying but honestly, my time is worth more than $20. Used it twice now and both times got connected under an hour.

EDD customer service edd phone system drops about 40% of calls even when you get on hold. It's a known technical issue they refuse to fix. The hold music will just cut out and you're back to dial tone.

Is there any pattern to when calls drop? Like certain times or after being on hold for a specific duration?

Sean Matthews

•

Seems random but I notice more drops around shift changes - like 11am, 3pm, end of day. Their system is just garbage.

Set your phone to speaker and get comfortable. I've gotten through exactly 3 times in 2 months. Each time took 4-6 hours of redialing plus 1.5-2 hour holds. Make sure your phone is fully charged.

4-6 hours?! I can't dedicate that much time every day. I have to work.

Ali Anderson

That's the reality unfortunately. It's why automated services like Claimyr exist - they handle the time commitment for you.

Don't believe the rumors about calling from different area codes or using *67. EDD customer service edd doesn't prioritize calls based on caller ID. These are just desperate myths people spread.

0 coins

I tried the *67 thing for a week because someone swore it worked. Complete waste of time.

Good to know. I was about to ask my friend in San Francisco to call for me thinking Bay Area numbers get priority.

Finally connected last Thursday using Claimyr after manually trying for 3 weeks. Agent resolved my issue in 10 minutes - something about a flag on my account that was blocking payments. Would have taken me months to figure out on my own.

•

That's exactly my situation - claim is just stuck pending with no explanation. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and pay for the service.

0 coins

Do it. The peace of mind alone is worth it. Plus you'll actually get your benefits flowing again instead of being stuck in phone hell.

Morning strategy: Start calling at 7:55am (5 min before they open). Use redial app if your phone has one. Press the menu sequence before prompts finish to save 30 seconds per attempt. Still takes 50+ tries on good days.

0 coins

Tony Brooks

•

I didn't know you could press menu options early. That could save a lot of time over hundreds of calls.

0 coins

The early pressing trick works but you have to time it right. Too early and it doesn't register, too late and you waste time.

Reality check: EDD customer service edd has about 1,000 agents handling 100,000+ daily call attempts. The math just doesn't work. Either get lucky, be extremely persistent, or use a service that automates the process.

Tony Brooks

•

Those numbers are insane. No wonder it feels impossible to get through.

This is why I don't feel bad about using Claimyr. The system is broken by design and they're just providing a workaround.
