Been trying contacting EDD for 6 days straight - phone system is completely broken
I'm at my breaking point with contacting EDD. Started Monday morning at 8am sharp and have been calling non-stop every day since. I've probably made 300+ attempts just this week. The 1-wait-1-1-*** pattern gets me to either 'too busy' or if I'm lucky, a 2 hour hold that drops. Yesterday I held for 2 hours and 15 minutes only to get disconnected right when someone picked up. My unemployment ran out 3 weeks ago and I desperately need to speak to someone about my extension. Has anyone actually succeeded in contacting EDD recently or is the system just completely dead?

Same boat here. Been trying for 2 weeks straight. The worst part is getting that hold music for hours then suddenly hearing dial tone. I've started keeping a log - out of 47 times I got on hold, 23 calls dropped.

•23 out of 47?! That's basically a coin flip. This is insane that we have to gamble with hours of our time just to maybe talk to someone.

•The call drop rate is brutal. I heard it's around 30-50% of all calls that make it to hold. System is completely overwhelmed.

I feel your pain. Spent 4 hours yesterday on redial duty. The trick is avoiding lunch time - they literally all disappear from 12 to 1:30pm. Don't waste your time calling then.

•Wait, the ENTIRE call center takes lunch at the same time? That explains why I could never get through around noon!

•Yep, complete dead zone from 12-1:30. They should announce this but they don't. Also avoid calling after 4pm - they stop taking new calls.

Look, I was in the exact same situation 2 months ago. Calling for weeks, missing work, going crazy. Finally broke down and used Claimyr - got through in 20 minutes. Yes it costs money but honestly best $20 I ever spent. They call for you and patch you through when an agent picks up.

•Is Claimyr legit? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point but worried about scams.

•Totally legit. Check their reviews on Google. I was skeptical too but it actually works. Way better than losing entire days to redialing.

•Can confirm Claimyr works. Used it last week after 3 weeks of failed attempts. Got my callback in 35 minutes on a Wednesday afternoon.

Pro tip from someone who's gotten through 6 times: Wednesday and Thursday afternoons are your best bet. Monday mornings are impossible, Friday afternoons are pointless. Also press the menu numbers BEFORE the prompts finish to save time.

•You've gotten through 6 times?! What's your secret? I'm doing 1-wait-1-1-*** but still getting nowhere.

•Patience and timing. I literally treat it like a part-time job. Start at 7:55am, take breaks, avoid lunch hours. Also both 833 and 800 numbers are the exact same line.

•The early bird approach works. I set my alarm for 7:30, make coffee, and start dialing at 7:55. Got through twice this way.

Stop believing the myths about specialist lines or secret numbers. There's only one line now, no shortcuts. The 833-978-7653 and 800-300-5616 go to the same place. Anyone telling you different is spreading old info from before the pandemic.

•Thank you! I wasted so much time trying different numbers thinking they were separate lines.

•Yeah, they consolidated everything. Makes it worse because now everyone's calling the same overloaded line.

I'm tracking my attempts in a spreadsheet. Day 8, attempt 312. Best success rate is Wednesday 2-3pm. Worst is Monday before 10am and any time during lunch. Friday after 3pm is also dead.

•312 attempts?! This is absolutely ridiculous that we have to do this.

•I know it sounds crazy but I need my benefits. Been unemployed 4 months and this extension is critical. At least I have data now on best times.

•Your data matches mine. Wednesday afternoons are definitely the sweet spot for getting through.

Just got off a 2.5 hour hold that actually connected! Agent was super helpful once I reached them. Key was calling at exactly 2:15pm on Thursday. Don't give up, it is possible.

•2.5 hours?! I don't know if I can handle that kind of hold time.

•I put it on speaker and did other stuff. Worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Thursday afternoons seem to work best.

•Congrats on getting through! Gives me hope that it's actually possible.

My friend told me about Claimyr after I complained about spending 20+ hours calling last month. Tried it yesterday and got connected in 25 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 that shows how it works. Honestly wish I'd known about it sooner.

•That's the second person mentioning Claimyr. What exactly do they do?

Aisha Mohammed
•They dial for you automatically, stay on hold, then call your phone when an agent picks up. Costs like $20 but saves hours of your time. Check claimyr.com

•I was skeptical about paying for something like this but after wasting 3 full days calling, it was totally worth it.

Been calling since 8am, it's now 3pm. Made 73 attempts, got on hold 4 times, all dropped. I'm about to throw my phone out the window. This system is absolutely broken.

•73 attempts in one day! That's dedication but also shows how broken this is.

•I'm taking tomorrow off work just to call EDD. This is becoming a full-time job itself.

•Don't take time off work for this. Use an auto-dialer service instead. Not worth losing income to play phone tag.

PSA: Stop calling between 12pm-1:30pm. The entire call center goes to lunch. I figured this out after 2 weeks of getting nowhere during lunch hours. Also don't bother after 4:30pm.

•Why don't they announce this officially? Seems like basic customer service to let people know when they're unavailable.

Andre Dupont
•No idea why they keep it secret. Would save everyone so much wasted time if they just posted their actual availability.

•The lack of transparency makes everything worse. At least tell people when not to call!

Update: Finally connected after using the calling service someone mentioned earlier. Took 18 minutes to get through vs the weeks I spent calling manually. Agent resolved my extension issue in 10 minutes. Sometimes paying for help is worth it when the system is this broken.

Emma Johnson
•18 minutes?! That's incredible compared to what we're all going through.

•Right? I wish I'd done it weeks ago instead of wasting all that time. My sanity was worth the $20.

•Which service did you use? There seem to be a few options out there.

•Claimyr - seems to be the most popular one. They have good reviews and it actually worked for me.

For anyone still trying manually: the menu pattern is 1-wait exactly 70 seconds-1-1-***. Don't rush the timing or you'll mess up the sequence. Also use speaker phone to save your ear during long holds.
0 coins
Emma Johnson
•70 seconds exactly? I've been waiting random amounts of time. No wonder I keep messing up the sequence.

Mei Chen
•Yeah, timing is crucial. Too fast and you get kicked out, too slow and you miss the window. It's like a stupid game.

I'm worried about my phone bill from all this calling. Already used 2000 minutes this month just trying to reach EDD. Anyone know if there are cheaper ways to make these calls?
0 coins
Emma Johnson
•2000 minutes?! That's insane. This whole situation is costing us money just to access our own benefits.

Liam O'Sullivan
•Exactly! And that's not even counting the time off work. The whole system is backwards.

•Try Google Voice or Skype for cheaper calling. Or just bite the bullet and use a callback service - probably cheaper than overage charges.

Been following this thread and finally tried Claimyr today. Got my callback in 32 minutes on a Friday afternoon (which is supposed to be impossible). Definitely worth it to avoid the manual calling nightmare. Thanks everyone for the recommendations.

•Friday afternoon success is impressive! Maybe I should stop trying to time it perfectly and just use a service.

•That's exactly what I realized. All this strategizing about best times doesn't matter if you're not actually getting through.

Final update from me: Used the auto-dial service after reading this thread. 28 minutes to connect, resolved my claim issue in 15 minutes total. Kicking myself for not doing this 3 weeks ago instead of the manual calling torture. Sometimes you just need to admit when a system is broken and find a workaround.

•That's it, I'm done with manual calling. Going to try the service too. Thanks for all the advice everyone!

•Good choice! Your time and sanity are worth more than the service fee. Best of luck getting your issue resolved.

•This whole thread convinced me too. The manual approach is just not realistic anymore with how broken their phone system is.
