EDD online: Can't reopen claim or certify weeks - help!

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble reopening my unemployment case online. The option to reopen isn't showing up, and I don't have any weeks available to certify in my account. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on what I should do?

I found a way to solve reopening unemployment claim online, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=147a3RFtO-c

Ugh, I've been there. The online system can be such a pain sometimes. Have you tried calling them? It might be faster to get it sorted out over the phone.

I've tried calling but can never get through. It's so frustrating! 😤

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold last week.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/0UZGuPWGErg

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait for the callback?

It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still better than trying to call yourself all day!

Have you checked if your benefit year has ended? That could be why you're not seeing the option to reopen or certify. You might need to file a new claim.

The EDD website is such a joke. 🤡 They need to hire some decent programmers and fix this mess. We're all out here struggling and they can't even make a functional website.

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're stuck in the 90s or something

To be fair, they've been dealing with unprecedented volume. But yeah, the site could use some serious upgrades.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Check your benefit year end date. If it's passed, you'll need to file a new claim. 2. If your benefit year isn't over, try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then log in again. 3. If that doesn't work, use a different browser or device. 4. Still no luck? You'll need to contact EDD directly. Use the UI Online message center or try calling. 5. Be persistent! Sometimes it takes multiple attempts to get through. Remember, if you've earned wages since your last claim, you might need to reapply even if your benefit year isn't over. The system should prompt you to do this, but it doesn't always work correctly. Good luck!

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll give these steps a try.

I'm in the same boat. Been trying to reopen my claim for weeks now. This whole system is a dumpster fire. 🔥

I had this exact same issue last month! Turns out my claim had expired and I needed to file a new one entirely. The system doesn't always make it clear when your benefit year has ended. Check your account summary page - if your benefit year end date has passed, that's why you can't reopen or certify. You'll need to start a completely new application instead. It's frustrating but once I figured that out, everything worked smoothly. Hope this helps!

This is super helpful! I didn't even think to check the benefit year end date. The EDD interface is so confusing - they really should make it more obvious when your year has expired. Thanks for sharing your experience, it gives me hope that there's actually a solution here!

I went through this exact same frustration a few months ago! Here's what worked for me: first, double-check if your benefit year actually expired by looking at the dates in your account summary. If it has expired, you can't reopen - you have to file a brand new claim instead. If your benefit year is still active, try logging out completely, clearing your browser cache, and then logging back in. Sometimes the system just glitches and needs a fresh start. Also, I noticed that certain browsers work better than others - Chrome seemed to work more reliably for me than Safari. If none of that works, the messaging system through UI Online actually got me faster responses than calling. Hope this helps and you get it sorted out soon! 🤞
