EDD claim reopening fails - blank page & no weeks to certify. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I got laid off last month due to downsizing and now I'm trying to get my unemployment benefits. The problem is, I can't seem to reopen my claim online. Every time I click the link to reopen, it just takes me to a blank page. And to make matters worse, there aren't any weeks available for me to certify. I've been unemployed for a few weeks now and I really need to get this sorted out. Has anyone else run into this issue? Any advice on how to request certification for the weeks I've missed?

I found a way to solve EDD claim reopening issues online, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk315s1T3MQ

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD website is a total nightmare. I had a similar issue last year and it took me forever to get it resolved. Have you tried calling them directly? It's a pain, but sometimes it's the only way to get things done.

I've been trying to call but it's impossible to get through. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through if youre one of the first callers of the day.

Calling is useless. I tried for weeks and never got through. The system is broken af 🤬

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The government should do better.

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

Drake

Can you give more details about how it works? Is it legit?

Yeah, so basically you go to their website, choose the EDD line, pay, and then they start calling. When they get a real person, your phone rings and you're connected. It took about 2 hours for me, but I didn't have to do anything during that time.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep trying the online system. Sometimes it works if you try at odd hours like 3 AM. 2. If that fails, you NEED to call. Yes, it's a pain, but it's the only way to fix certain issues. 3. When you call, have all your info ready: SSN, last employer details, dates of employment, etc. 4. Be persistent. If you can't get through, keep trying. It took me 47 calls once, but I finally got through. 5. Consider reaching out to your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. 6. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact EDD. 7. Check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important EDD emails end up there. Hang in there. The system is frustrating, but don't give up. You'll get it sorted eventually!

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely try calling at odd hours and reaching out to my assembly member.

This is solid advice. I'd add: if you do get through, be super nice to the rep. They deal with angry people all day and being kind can go a long way.

I'm in the exact same boat rn. Been trying to reopen my claim for weeks. This whole system is a joke. Good luck, OP. Let us know if you figure it out!

Thanks, will do! Fingers crossed we both get this sorted soon.

Hot take: maybe this is a sign to look for a new job instead of relying on unemployment? Just saying... 🤷‍♂️

Wow, way to be insensitive. People need to eat while they're job hunting, you know.

Just keeping it real. Unemployment isn't meant to be a long-term solution.

Trust me, I'm looking for work too. But I paid into this system and need the support while I search.

PSA: If anyone else is struggling with EDD issues, there's a really helpful Facebook group called 'EDD Unemployment Help'. Lots of good info and people sharing their experiences.
