EDD not updating return-to-work date after doctor sent medical certificate 2 weeks ago. No payments since early November. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my unemployment claim. My doctor sent in a medical certificate to update my return to work date to early December, but it's not showing up online. It's been two weeks since they sent it, and I haven't received any payments since early November. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get this sorted out?

I found a way to solve unemployment claim update delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGHthoy4Aqs

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is so slow to update sometimes. Have you tried calling them? That's usually the fastest way to get things sorted out, even though it's a pain to get through.

•I've been trying to call for days but can't get through. It's so frustrating! 😤

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I usually have better luck getting through then.

•Calling is useless. I spent 3 hours on hold last week only to get disconnected. The whole system is a joke 🤡

I had a similar issue last year. What worked for me was faxing the medical certificate directly to EDD. Make sure to include your claim number on every page. It took about a week, but they finally updated my info.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a try. Do you happen to remember the fax number?

•I think it was 1-855-027-5709, but double check on the EDD website to make sure it hasn't changed.

Have you checked your UI Online account? Sometimes they update the info there before sending out payments. Also, make sure you're still certifying for benefits even if you haven't been paid recently.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•20 bucks? No way, that's a rip-off. 🙄

•I know it sounds weird, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•Can you give more details about how it works? Do they just keep redialing for you?

•Basically, yeah. They have some automated system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold. When a real person picks up, it calls your phone. Pretty clever actually.

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep certifying for benefits every two weeks, even if you're not getting paid. This keeps your claim active. 2. Send a secure message through your UI Online account. Be specific about the date your doctor sent the certificate and your updated return-to-work date. 3. If you can, get another copy of the medical certificate from your doctor and upload it directly to your UI Online account. 4. Keep calling. I know it sucks, but persistence pays off. Try different times of day. 5. If all else fails, contact your local state representative's office. They often have liaisons who can help push things through with EDD. Remember, document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online message. You might need it later. Hang in there. The system is frustrating, but you'll get through this. 💪

•Most offices are still closed for walk-ins due to COVID. Check the EDD website for current status.

Not to be that guy, but are you sure your doctor actually sent the certificate? I'd follow up with their office just to be 100% certain.

I went through something similar a few months ago. Here's what finally worked for me: I sent a secure message through UI Online AND followed up with a paper letter sent certified mail to their P.O. Box. Include copies of the medical certificate, your claim number, and a detailed timeline of when things were sent. The certified mail creates a paper trail they can't ignore. It took about 10 days, but they finally updated everything and released my back payments. Also, make sure you're still certifying - that's crucial even when payments are delayed. Don't give up!

•This is really helpful advice! The certified mail idea is brilliant - creates that paper trail you mentioned. Question though: do you remember which P.O. Box address you sent it to? I want to make sure I'm sending it to the right place. Also, about how long did it take for them to process everything once they received your certified letter?

I'm going through almost the exact same situation right now! My doctor submitted updated medical documentation 3 weeks ago and EDD still hasn't processed it. What's really frustrating is that I can see they received it in my UI Online account under "Documents," but my return-to-work date hasn't been updated and my payments are stuck. I've been certifying every two weeks like clockwork, but still nothing. Has anyone had success with escalating through the EDD disability services line specifically? I'm wondering if that might be faster than the general customer service number since this involves medical documentation. Also, @Jessica Nolan your advice about contacting a state representative is something I hadn't thought of - do you know if they actually respond quickly to these kinds of issues? Really hoping we both get this sorted out soon. The financial stress on top of dealing with medical issues is just too much. 😞

•I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too! It's awful how common this seems to be. I actually tried the disability services line last month when I had a similar issue - they were definitely more knowledgeable about medical documentation than the regular customer service, but the wait times were still pretty brutal (like 2+ hours). That said, when I finally got through, the rep was able to see exactly what was happening with my medical cert and put in an expedite request. As for state reps, I reached out to mine about 6 months ago for a different EDD issue and they actually got back to me within 48 hours! Their office has people who specifically handle EDD problems. It didn't solve everything overnight, but they were able to get someone at EDD to actually look at my case instead of it just sitting in limbo. Hang in there - the combination of medical stress and financial worry is really rough. Have you tried uploading a fresh copy of your medical cert directly through UI Online? Sometimes that kicks their system into gear. 🤞

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - it's so frustrating! One thing that helped me was sending a follow-up email to my doctor's office asking for confirmation that they sent the medical certificate, along with the date and method they used (fax, mail, etc.). Turns out my doctor's office had the wrong fax number on file for EDD! Once we got that corrected and they resent it, things moved much faster. Also, if you haven't already, try uploading a copy of the medical certificate directly to your UI Online account under the "Upload Documents" section. Even if your doctor already sent it, having it in multiple places seems to help expedite the process. The waiting is the worst part, especially when you're already dealing with medical issues. Keep pushing - you've got this! 💪

•This is such great advice! The doctor's office having the wrong fax number is exactly the kind of thing that would cause these delays. I'm definitely going to call my doctor's office tomorrow to double-check they have the right contact info for EDD. It's frustrating how these little details can hold everything up when you're already stressed about medical issues and finances. Thanks for sharing what worked for you - gives me hope that there's light at the end of this tunnel! 🙏
