EDD eligibility issue & conditional payment - what's going on?

Hey everyone, I just got a message about a potential eligibility issue with my unemployment and received a conditional payment. I'm really confused about what's going on. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do next?

I found a way to solve unemployment eligibility and payments, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFHUWGvT02o

Ugh, I've been there. It's so frustrating when they hit you with these vague messages. Have you tried calling EDD to get more info? Sometimes that's the only way to figure out what's really going on.

I tried calling but couldn't get through. The lines are always busy 😫

Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through if youre quick!

Calling is useless tbh. I've wasted hours of my life on hold. There's gotta be a better way šŸ¤”

I actually found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. Got through in about 2 hours.

$20 tho? That's kinda steep when were already struggling 😬

I get it, but for me it was worth it. Spent way more on gas driving to the EDD office and getting nowhere šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Conditional payments are tricky. It means they're paying you while they investigate the eligibility issue. Make sure you're eligible, cuz if you're not, you might have to pay it back later.

check ur online account for any new messages or requests for additional info. Sometimes they need more docs but don't make it obvious šŸ™„

Good idea, I'll take a look. Thx!

Ive been dealing with eligibility issues for MONTHS. its a nightmare. Heres what I've learned: • Document everything. Every call, every letter, every online message. • Be proactive. Don't wait for them to contact you. • If you can, get help from a legal aid organization. They know the system. • Keep certifying even if you're not getting paid. It'll help if they backpay you. • Stay on top of your mail and online account. They love to sneak in deadlines. • If you get an interview scheduled, PREPARE. Have all your docs ready. Hang in there, OP. The system is broken, but you can navigate it. šŸ’Ŗ

anyone else feel like the whole system is designed to make us give up? 🤔

100%. Its a feature, not a bug šŸ™ƒ

Conspiracy theory: they make it confusing on purpose so people don't claim benefits they're entitled to šŸ‘€

Have you checked if theres been any recent changes to eligibility rules? Sometimes they change things and don't tell anyone šŸ™„

Same thing happened to me last month! The conditional payment basically means they're still investigating but paying you in the meantime (which is actually good news). I got mine resolved by uploading additional work search records and wage verification docs through the UI Online portal. Check your inbox for any "Determination" letters - they usually explain exactly what triggered the review. Don't panic, just respond to whatever they're asking for ASAP. The waiting is the worst part but most of these get resolved in your favor if you provide what they need šŸ¤ž

This is super helpful, thanks! @c7c008e323ae Did you have to do anything special when uploading the docs, or just use the regular upload feature? I'm worried about missing something important in the process.

Just went through something similar! @c7c008e323ae is right about responding quickly. One thing that helped me was calling the document upload line (1-866-401-2849) after uploading to confirm they received everything. Sometimes the online system glitches and doesn't actually submit your docs even though it looks like it went through. Also make sure to keep screenshots of everything you upload - learned that the hard way! The whole process took about 3 weeks for me once I got all the right paperwork in.

@Sean Fitzgerald I went through this exact same thing a few months ago! The conditional payment is actually a good sign - it means they're continuing to pay you while they review whatever flagged your account. In my case, it was because I had some gaps in my work search log that looked suspicious to their system. The key is to log into your UI Online account IMMEDIATELY and check for any pending "requests for information" or determination notices. They usually give you a specific list of what they need (could be pay stubs, work search records, identity verification, etc.). Don't wait - respond within the timeframe they give you or it could delay everything even more. Also, keep certifying for benefits even during the review period! Most of these resolve in the claimant's favor as long as you provide what they're asking for. Feel free to DM me if you need help navigating the online portal - I know how confusing it can be šŸ™

@Nia Jackson This is really reassuring, thank you! I was freaking out when I saw that message. Just checked my UI Online account and you re'right - there s'a request for additional wage verification docs that I totally missed. Going to upload everything tonight. Really appreciate you offering to help with the portal navigation - this community is amazing! šŸ™

Hey @Sean Fitzgerald! I just went through this same situation about 6 weeks ago. The conditional payment thing is actually better than getting no payment at all - it means they're investigating something but still paying you while they figure it out. In my case, it was triggered because I had started some freelance work and they needed to verify it wouldn't affect my eligibility. Here's what worked for me: 1) Check your UI Online inbox obsessively - they sometimes send follow-up requests that are easy to miss 2) If you need to upload docs, do it during off-peak hours (early morning/late night) because their system crashes less 3) Don't stress too much - most of these reviews end up fine if you're legitimately eligible. The whole thing took about 4 weeks to resolve for me. Keep us posted on how it goes! šŸ¤ž
