EDD eligibility review out of nowhere - still unemployed, what's going on?

I got a message about a potential eligibility issue for my unemployment benefits and received a conditional payment. I'm still unemployed and haven't had any changes to my status. Has anyone else dealt with this? What could be causing this review? I'm worried about losing my benefits.

This happened to me last month. Turns out it was just a routine check they do sometimes. I had to fill out a form online confirming my employment status hadn't changed. After that, everything went back to normal. Don't stress too much!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Did they send you an email about the form, or did you have to look for it on the website?

They sent me an email, but it went to my spam folder 🙄 So def check there if you haven't seen anything!

Same thing happened to me! The spam folder is where important emails go to die lol

ugh, the EDD and there constant 'reviews'. I swear they just do this to make ppl give up on claiming benefits. Its so frustrating!

Preach! 🙌 The whole system is designed to wear us down.

I mean, they gotta make sure people aren't committing fraud. But yeah, it can be a pain for those of us playing by the rules.

Hey guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

I know it sounds crazy, but after spending hours trying to get through, it was worth it for me. Saved me a ton of stress.

100% legit. I was skeptical too, but it really worked. You can check their reviews online.

Here's what you need to know about eligibility reviews: 1. They're often random and don't necessarily mean you've done anything wrong. 2. Make sure all your info is up to date in the system. 3. Respond promptly to any requests for information. 4. Keep certifying for benefits while the review is ongoing. 5. If you receive a Notice of Determination and disagree, you have the right to appeal. Stay calm and document everything. If you need to speak with someone, try calling right when they open or just before closing - those tend to be less busy times.

Quick question - did your benefit amount change when you got the conditional payment? Trying to figure out if this happened to me too.

Nope, the amount stayed the same. It was just labeled as 'conditional' on my account.

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying! Guess I'm dealing with a different issue then. Back to square one 😩

Pro tip: start a job search log if you haven't already. Sometimes these reviews are just to make sure you're actively looking for work. Having documentation ready can speed things up.

This! 💯 I keep a spreadsheet with dates, company names, and positions I've applied for. Saved my butt during a review.

Anyone else feel like they're playing unemployment benefit roulette? One week everything's fine, the next you're under review. It's exhausting.
