EDD claim approved by phone but nothing on Money Network card - is this normal?
So confused right now!!! I called the EDD automated number (1-866 number) yesterday and it told me my claim was approved for $425/week. But I haven't gotten ANY paperwork or emails from EDD at all! No award letter, no Money Network card in the mail, nothing!! I checked my UI Online account and there's nothing there either - just shows my claim was filed. Is this normal?? Will my card just randomly show up? How long after hearing the amount on the phone should I expect to actually SEE MONEY on a card I don't even have yet?? I'm seriously stressing because rent is due in 10 days and I need to know if I should be borrowing money from family or not.

You're actually in a normal stage of the claims process. The automated system often updates before the UI Online portal does. Here's what's happening: Once your claim is approved, it typically takes 7-10 business days for your Money Network card to arrive in the mail. The first payment won't be issued until after you complete your first certification (which you do every two weeks). Have you certified for any weeks yet?

•Omg thank you for explaining! Honestly I don't even know if I certified yet?? I filed my initial claim online like 3 weeks ago but haven't done anything since because I didn't get any instructions. How do I certify if I can't even log in and see anything?

The exact same thing happened to me!! Called the number and it told me how much I was getting but didn't get ANYTHING in the mail for like 2 weeks. Don't worry, it'll come. The EDD is soooooo slow at sending stuff out.

This is a common misunderstanding with EDD. The automated phone system telling you your weekly benefit amount (WBA) means your claim is established, but not necessarily that payments are being processed yet. Here's what you need to know: 1. Your Money Network card will arrive separately, usually within 7-10 business days after claim approval 2. You MUST certify for benefits before any payment is issued 3. Your first certification period is typically available 2 weeks after your initial claim filing date 4. Certifications can be done via UI Online, paper form, or TeleCert (833-978-2511) Did you receive your Customer Account Number (the 10-digit code needed to register for UI Online)? If not, that should arrive in the mail soon, and then you can complete registration and certify online.

•No I haven't received any Customer Account Number either! Nobody told me anything about certifying every 2 weeks - how am I supposed to know this stuff??? This system is so broken!

Honestly the EDD phone system is the WORST. I spent 3 weeks trying to get through to an actual human being. Busy signals, disconnects, waiting for 4 hours then getting hung up on. It's absolute garbage! The only thing that worked for me was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through - they got me connected to an EDD agent in like 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km An actual agent can tell you exactly what's going on with your claim and when you can expect your card.

•I've never heard of Claimyr before... does it really work? I've been trying to call for days and can't get through. I just need someone to tell me what's happening with my claim!

•I used it last month when my payments got stuck. It's legit. Saved me days of frustration.

ok so everyones giving u complicated answers but heres the simple version: the phone system is ahead of everything else. ur gonna get a letter in the mail with ur customer account # in about a week, THEN you'll get the money network card a few days after that, THEN u need to certify before money goes on the card. its stupid and takes like 3-4 weeks total from when u apply until u see $$$. they should explain this better!!

•Thank you for explaining it simply! That timeline sucks but at least now I know. Looks like I'm asking my parents for a loan 😫

My EDD claim took FOREVER. The timeframe after approval was: - Customer account number letter: 8 days - Money Network card: 12 days - First certification available: 14 days - Payment after certification: 1-2 days Total time from filing to money: about 4 weeks. It's ridiculous but that's how it works. The phone system is misleading because it tells you you're approved but doesn't explain all the other steps needed.

•Thanks for the timeline, that helps me know what to expect. I wish they'd tell us this stuff upfront instead of leaving us hanging!

Wait you should have recieved an email when you filed your claim. Check your spam folder maybe? Thats where mine went. It should tell you when to certify and how long things take. Not getting ANY communication seems weird, you might want to try calling them to check if they have the right contact info for you.

•Just checked all my folders including spam and trash - absolutely nothing from EDD. I'm starting to wonder if they have the wrong email address or something?? But then how did my claim get approved at all? This is so frustrating!

Based on everything you've shared, it sounds like there might be an issue with your contact information. Here's what I recommend: 1. Call EDD as soon as possible to verify they have your correct mailing address and email 2. Ask specifically about the status of your Customer Account Number letter 3. Confirm when your first certification period will be available 4. Ask if they can expedite your Money Network card if it hasn't been sent yet Your claim is approved, which is the good news, but you need to make sure all your information is correct so you can get your documents and start certifying.

•You're right, I need to just talk to someone directly. I've been trying to call but can't get through - might try that Claimyr thing someone mentioned. Thanks for all your help!
