EDD payment says 'paid' but no Money Network debit card arrived - should I call?
I just filed my first unemployment claim last month after being laid off from my warehouse job. Got through all the paperwork and did my first certification two weeks ago. When I check UI Online, it shows my payment status as 'paid' for $687, but I haven't received any debit card or payment in the mail. Nothing about direct deposit was mentioned during my application process. I'm getting nervous because rent is due next week and I was counting on this money. Does EDD automatically send cards? How long should I wait before panicking? This is my first time dealing with unemployment and I'm totally confused about how I actually get the money they supposedly paid me. Should I be calling someone or just keep waiting?

The Money Network debit card usually takes 7-10 business days to arrive after your first payment is processed. If UI Online says 'paid' that's a good sign! They don't send you any notification that the card is coming - it just shows up in a plain envelope that looks like junk mail (be careful not to throw it away!). If it's been more than 2 weeks since the payment status changed to 'paid', then I'd definitely call Bank of America EDD card services at 1-866-692-9374 to check on your card status.

•Thanks for the info! It's been exactly 14 days since the status changed to paid. I had no idea the card comes from Bank of America and not directly from EDD. I'll keep an eye out for an envelope that might look like junk mail. If nothing shows up by Monday I'll call that number.

The Money Network debit card system replaced the old Bank of America EDD cards in July 2024. Your first payment will come on the physical card, but for future payments you should set up direct deposit once you receive and activate your card. The initial card can take up to 10 business days (two weeks) to arrive. If it's been more than two weeks since your payment was marked 'paid' in the system, you should definitely call EDD. The problem is getting through... I spent 3 days trying to reach them about my card issue last month.

•Oh I didn't know about the switch to Money Network from BofA. That's helpful - I thought it was weird they used a bank for government benefits. I'll set up direct deposit as soon as I get the card. It's been exactly 14 days so I guess I should try calling tomorrow.

•GOOD LUCK getting through on the phone!!!! I spent WEEKS trying to call about my missing card. Always busy signals or the stupid "we're experiencing high call volume" message. I literally called 56 times in one day and never got through. The EDD phone system is BROKEN and they don't care!!!!!

Same thing happened with my girlfriend's claim. Her payment showed 'paid' for almost 3 weeks before the card came. The envelopes really do look like junk mail - plain white envelope with minimal markings. Just hang tight, it's probably on the way!

If it says paid but no card after 2 weeks, use Claimyr to get through to an EDD agent. I was in your exact situation - payment said paid but no card after 15 days. Tried calling myself but couldn't get through. Used Claimyr and they got me connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. The rep confirmed my address was correct and expedited a new card to me. Worth it to avoid waiting another 7-10 days for a replacement. Check out their demo video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km or just go to claimyr.com

•Thanks for the suggestion! I've never heard of this service before. I'll try calling on my own tomorrow but if I can't get through I might try this. Did they help figure out what happened to your original card?

•Yeah, turns out my original card was returned to Money Network for some reason (they wouldn't specify why, but I suspect my apartment number was missing). The EDD rep was able to verify my full address and send a new card with expedited shipping. The whole call took maybe 15 minutes once I got connected.

There are three important things you should know about the Money Network debit cards: 1. They come in plain white envelopes that look like junk mail - many people throw them away by accident 2. If it's been more than 10 business days since your payment was marked 'paid', you should contact EDD 3. After you get your card, immediately set up direct deposit to your bank account for faster access to future payments Also, check your UI Online profile to ensure your mailing address is correct. If you need to call EDD, be prepared to spend several hours attempting to get through. Best times to call are Tuesday-Thursday right when they open at 8am.

•Thanks for the detailed info. I've double-checked my address in UI Online and everything is correct. Tomorrow will be day 15 since the payment was marked paid, so I'll start calling right when they open. I'll definitely set up direct deposit as soon as I get the card to avoid this problem next time.

This happened to me too! The stupid card took FOREVER to arrive and there was NO tracking information or any way to know when it would come. EDD is so incompetent!!! Why can't they just use direct deposit from the beginning like a normal organization? I had to borrow money from my parents to cover rent while waiting for this mysterious card to appear. It's ridiculous how they leave people hanging without access to their benefits!

•I know, it seems so inefficient! Did your card eventually arrive or did you have to call to sort it out? I'm worried I might need to borrow money too if this doesn't resolve quickly.

•It finally showed up after almost 3 weeks. But seriously, watch your mail carefully - the envelope is super plain and doesn't say EDD or anything obvious on it. I almost threw mine away thinking it was credit card spam.

Quick update for everyone: As of July 2025, new claimants who provide banking information during their initial application CAN receive their first payment via direct deposit. This changed last month. However, if you didn't provide bank info during your initial application (like the original poster), then you'll still receive the Money Network card for your first payment, and can set up direct deposit after that. OP - if tomorrow is day 15 since the payment was marked 'paid,' you should definitely call. The card should arrive within 10 business days maximum.

•I wish I'd known about providing banking info during the application! I must have missed that section or maybe it wasn't clear. I'll definitely be calling tomorrow. Thanks for the updated information.

Hey Elijah! I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago. The waiting is super stressful, especially when rent is due! A few tips from my experience: 1) Check with your mail carrier or apartment office if you live in a complex - sometimes these cards get misdelivered or held up, 2) The Money Network customer service line (1-866-544-7681) can sometimes tell you if a card was issued and the date it was mailed, even before calling EDD, and 3) If you're really in a bind financially, some local food banks and community organizations have emergency assistance programs while you wait. Don't be afraid to ask for help - that's what these programs are for! The card will come, it's just a matter of when.

•Thank you so much for the practical advice! I never thought about checking with the mail carrier - that's a great idea. I'll definitely try calling Money Network directly first before going through the EDD phone maze. It's reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same thing. I really appreciate the tip about community assistance programs too - I hadn't considered that option but it's good to know it's available if needed. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience!

Hey Elijah! I just went through this exact same situation about 3 months ago. The waiting is absolutely nerve-wracking, especially when you're counting on that money for rent! Here's what I learned: First, definitely check your mail very carefully - that plain white envelope really does look like junk mail. Second, if you have a mailbox at an apartment complex, sometimes check with the office because these cards occasionally get mixed up or held. Third, you can actually call Money Network directly at 1-866-544-7681 to check if your card was issued and when it was mailed - this might be faster than trying to get through to EDD. In my case, the card took 12 business days to arrive, which was right at the edge of the normal timeframe. Hang in there - it's coming! And once you get it, definitely set up direct deposit right away so you don't have to go through this stress again.

•Thanks Fiona! This is really helpful. I had no idea I could call Money Network directly - that might save me hours of trying to get through to EDD. I'm definitely going to try that number first thing tomorrow morning. It's reassuring to hear your card took 12 days since I'm at day 14 now, so hopefully mine is just around the corner. I really appreciate you sharing the apartment office tip too - I live in a complex and our mail delivery can be pretty inconsistent. I'll check with them as well. Thanks for the encouragement!

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Filed my claim in February, got my first payment marked as "paid" 11 days ago, but still no card. It's so stressful not knowing when it'll arrive. I've been checking my mail obsessively every day. Reading through these comments is really helpful - I didn't realize the envelope would look like junk mail or that I could call Money Network directly. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow before attempting to get through to EDD. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it makes me feel less alone in this frustrating process!

•Isabella, you're definitely not alone in this! I'm going through the exact same thing right now - it's day 14 for me since my payment was marked "paid" and still no card. The waiting is really stressful, especially when you need the money. I'm planning to call Money Network directly tomorrow morning using that 1-866-544-7681 number that Fiona mentioned - maybe we should both try that before dealing with EDD's phone system. It sounds like most people get their cards between 10-14 days, so hopefully we're both just at the tail end of the normal timeframe. Keep me posted on how your call goes if you try it!

I went through this same nightmare last year! Here's what worked for me: First, try calling Money Network at 1-866-544-7681 early in the morning (around 8am) - they can tell you if your card was issued and when it shipped, which is way easier than getting through to EDD. Second, if you live in an apartment complex, definitely check with your leasing office - my card got delivered to the wrong unit and sat there for a week! Third, the envelope really is super plain - it just says "Cardholder Services" with no EDD branding. If it's been 14 days and you still don't have it by Monday, you can also try going to your local EDD office in person if there's one near you. Sometimes that's faster than the phone. Don't panic yet - 99% of the time these cards do show up, they're just slower than anyone wants them to be!

•Dylan, this is really helpful advice! I'm at day 14 right now so I'll definitely try calling Money Network first thing tomorrow morning at 8am like you suggested. The apartment complex tip is especially useful - I never would have thought to check with the leasing office about misdelivered mail. It's reassuring to hear that 99% of these cards do eventually show up. I'm trying not to panic but it's hard when rent is due soon and this is my first time dealing with unemployment. Thanks for sharing what worked for you - it gives me a better game plan for tomorrow!

I actually work for a local community organization that helps people navigate EDD issues, and I see this situation constantly. Here are a few additional tips that might help: 1) If you're really in a financial bind while waiting, many local 211 services can connect you with emergency rental assistance or food banks - just dial 2-1-1 from any phone. 2) Once you do get your card, activate it immediately online or by phone before trying to use it - unactivated cards get declined. 3) The Money Network app is actually pretty decent for checking your balance and transaction history once you're set up. 4) Be aware that there's usually a small fee ($1.50 I think) for ATM withdrawals, but you can avoid this by getting cash back at grocery stores. The waiting period is definitely the worst part of the whole process, but hang in there - your card is almost certainly on its way!

•Kaitlyn, thank you so much for this incredibly helpful information! As someone who works with EDD issues, your advice is really valuable. I had no idea about the 2-1-1 service for emergency assistance - that's such a good resource to know about. The tip about activating the card immediately is also really important, I wouldn't have thought about that. I'm definitely going to download the Money Network app once I get my card so I can keep track of everything. It's reassuring to hear from someone who sees these situations regularly that the cards do eventually arrive. I really appreciate you taking the time to share these practical tips - it makes dealing with this whole process feel much more manageable!

I'm dealing with this exact same situation right now! My payment has been showing "paid" for 12 days and I'm starting to get really anxious about when the card will arrive. Reading through all these comments has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea the envelope would look like junk mail or that Money Network has their own customer service line. I'm definitely going to try calling 1-866-544-7681 tomorrow morning before attempting the EDD phone maze. It's so frustrating that they don't give you any tracking info or timeline when the card ships. For anyone else going through this - it sounds like most cards arrive between 10-14 business days, so I'm hoping mine shows up in the next few days. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences, it really helps to know we're not alone in this stressful waiting period!
