EDD payment says 'paid' in history but not showing up in direct deposit - timeline confusion
Super confused right now. Filed my new claim last week and certified for my first two weeks on Sunday. When I check under 'Payment History,' it's been showing 'paid' status since yesterday morning (about 24 hours now), which got me excited. But the money hasn't hit my bank account yet, and when I look under the 'Payments' section, it doesn't actually say paid there! Is this normal? How long should it take for the money to actually arrive via direct deposit once the History section shows 'paid'? This is my first time on unemployment since 2021, and I'm trying not to panic, but bills are due next week. Anyone know the current timeline for EDD direct deposits? Thanks for any insights!

This is totally normal. The EDD system is weird like that. When History shows 'paid' it means they've processed it, but it typically takes 24-48 hours to hit your bank account. Some banks process faster than others. Mine usually shows up the day after it says 'paid' in History. The Payments section often lags behind the History section for some reason. You should see it tomorrow if not by the end of today. No need to worry yet!

•Thanks for the reassurance! Do you know if weekends count in that 24-48 hour window? My bank usually processes direct deposits pretty quickly, so I'm hoping it'll show up soon.

•I'm using direct deposit - I set it up when I filed the claim. They should be sending it straight to my checking account, not using the card at all. At least that's what I thought I selected!

The EDD payment system follows this specific timeline now: 1. Certification gets processed (usually within 24 hours of submitting) 2. Status changes to 'paid' in History section 3. Payment gets issued to your payment method (usually same day or next business day) 4. Bank processing time (1-3 business days depending on your bank) What's happening is normal. The discrepancy between History and Payments sections is just the EDD system being its usual inefficient self. The Payments section will update, but sometimes takes an extra day. If you don't see the money by day 3 after the 'paid' status appears, then you should start investigating. Check that your bank account information is entered correctly in your UI Online profile. Sometimes a single wrong digit can cause the payment to be returned to EDD.

•This timeline is super helpful, thank you! Today would be business day 1 since the 'paid' status appeared, so it sounds like I should give it until at least tomorrow or Thursday before worrying. I double-checked my bank info and it's all correct.

OMG I went through the EXACT SAME THING last month!!! I was freaking out because I saw 'paid' but no money and the payments section was different than history. EDD's system is SO FRUSTRATING!! It took 3 days total for the money to actually hit my account. Their website said it was paid but the money took forever!!! Call them if you're worried but honestly they'll just tell you to wait.

If your status is showing as 'paid' in the History section but you don't see the money in your account yet, don't panic. This is actually normal for the first payment on a new claim. The first payment often takes a bit longer because EDD is establishing the payment pathway. Here's what I recommend: 1. Give it 48-72 hours from when you first saw the 'paid' status 2. Make sure your bank account info is correctly entered in UI Online 3. Check that you selected direct deposit and not the EDD debit card option If it's not there after 3 business days, then you should contact EDD to check the status. But honestly, calling EDD is almost impossible these days with their overwhelmed phone lines. If you absolutely need to speak with someone, I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to an EDD representative much faster than calling yourself. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. It saved me hours of frustration when I had a similar issue.

•Thanks for the detailed explanation! I didn't realize the first payment takes longer - that makes sense. I'll definitely wait the full 3 business days before trying to contact them. And thanks for the Claimyr tip - I'll check that out if I need to call in. Much appreciated!

lol welcome to EDD hell where nothing makes sense and everything takes 10x longer than they say. they're still running on computers from 1995 🤣

•RIGHT?! It's like the stone age over there. My friend who works in tech says their systems are held together with duct tape and prayers at this point 😂

Just to update you on some recent changes: As of January 2025, EDD made some updates to their payment processing system. The good news is that direct deposits are generally faster now. The not-so-good news is that there's still this lag between different sections of the UI Online portal showing different statuses. One thing to keep in mind: if this is truly your first payment on a brand new claim (not a reopened claim), it can take up to 10 days from certification to payment, though it's usually faster. Subsequent payments are much quicker once the initial payment pathway is established. If you certified on Sunday and it's showing 'paid' in History, you're on the right track. I'd expect the money to be in your account by Thursday at the latest, assuming no holidays or other delays.

•UPDATE: The money just hit my account about an hour ago! So it took about 48 hours from when the History section first showed 'paid'. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance. For anyone finding this thread later with the same question, the timeline was: certified Sunday → showed 'paid' in History on Monday → money in my account Wednesday afternoon.

Congrats on getting your payment! This is actually a really helpful timeline for others who might be going through the same thing. It's good to see that the recent EDD system updates are working - 48 hours from "paid" status to money in account is pretty reasonable compared to the horror stories from a few years ago. Thanks for coming back to update the thread with your resolution!

•Yes, this is so helpful! I'm actually in a similar situation right now - certified yesterday and anxiously waiting for the status to change. It's reassuring to see the actual timeline play out like this. The EDD system is confusing but at least it seems to be working more consistently now than it used to. Thanks for sharing your experience @e18af6abd76d!

Just wanted to add my recent experience for anyone else who finds this thread! I had the exact same situation happen to me in February - certified on a Wednesday, saw "paid" in History on Thursday, but the money didn't hit my Chase account until the following Monday. So it was about 4 business days total, but only because the weekend was in between. The key thing I learned is that weekends and holidays definitely don't count in the processing time, so don't panic if it spans over a weekend like mine did. Also, different banks have different processing speeds - my friend with Bank of America got hers a day faster than me with the same certification date. The system is definitely more reliable now than it was during the peak pandemic chaos!

•Thanks for sharing your experience @323422dc2692! This is super valuable info. I'm currently waiting for my first payment too and was wondering about the weekend factor. It's good to know that different banks process at different speeds - I have a local credit union so I'm not sure how fast they'll be. The fact that the system is more reliable now than during the pandemic gives me some peace of mind. These real timeline examples from everyone are so much more helpful than the vague info on the EDD website!

This thread is so helpful! I'm actually going through something similar right now - filed my claim two weeks ago and just certified yesterday. The waiting and uncertainty is the worst part, especially when you have bills coming up. It's really reassuring to see all these recent success stories and actual timelines from real people. The EDD website is so vague about processing times, so hearing that 24-48 hours from "paid" status to bank account is pretty standard now makes me feel much better. I'll definitely bookmark this thread to reference if I start getting anxious about the timeline. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community is a lifesaver when dealing with EDD's confusing system!

•I'm so glad this thread is helping! I just went through the same anxiety a few weeks ago with my first payment. One thing that really helped me was setting up text alerts from my bank so I'd get notified the moment any deposit came through - it saved me from constantly checking my account balance every hour! Also, if you have the EDD mobile app, sometimes the payment status updates there a bit faster than the website. The waiting really is the hardest part, but based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like the system is working much more smoothly now. Hang in there - you should see your money soon!
