EDD benefits ran out - extend or file new claim? Need advice
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My unemployment benefits have run out and I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone been through this before? I'm wondering if I should try to extend my benefits or if I need to apply for a new claim altogether. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Have you considered gig work while you're figuring this out? Might help bridge the gap.

•That's not a bad idea. Any recommendations for good gig apps?

•Uber eats has been decent for me. Flexible hours and you can cash out daily if you need to.

•Also consider apps like DoorDash, Instacart, or TaskRabbit. They can also provide flexible opportunities to earn some extra cash.

Ugh, the EDD system is such a mess. I swear they make it confusing on purpose. Good luck getting through to anyone on the phone!

•For real tho. I spent WEEKS trying to get someone on the line. It's like they don't want us to get help 🙄

•Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

Here's what you need to know about extending benefits or filing a new claim: 1. Check your benefit year end date. If it's passed, you'll need to file a new claim. 2. If you're still within your benefit year, you might be eligible for an extension. 3. Extensions are usually automatic, but sometimes you need to apply. 4. To file a new claim, gather your employment info for the last 18 months. 5. Be prepared for a waiting period if you file a new claim. 6. Keep certifying for benefits even if your claim balance is zero. Remember, rules can change, so always double-check the EDD website for the most up-to-date info.

Has anyone else noticed that the EDD website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? It's like they're trolling us at this point.

•omg yes! I swear it's intentional. Like, do they not realize people need to certify on weekends??

•Pro tip: Try using it late at night or early morning. Less traffic = fewer issues usually.

•If tech issues persist, it might be worth reaching out to their IT support or checking their social media for maintenance updates.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the URL: https://claimyr.com

•Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

•Totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

Anyone else think its weird that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits we've paid into? The whole system needs an overhaul imo.

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they forget it's OUR money to begin with.

•For real. And don't even get me started on how outdated their tech is. It's 2023, why does their website look like it's from 1995? 🤦♀️

•Modernizing government systems could really make a difference here. Maybe there's a push for a digital overhaul in the works.

When unemployment benefits run out, it's important to quickly determine if you're eligible for an extension or need to file a new claim. If your benefit year has expired, filing a new claim may be necessary. It's advisable to frequently check the EDD website for updates, as the process can change. Utilizing tools like Claimyr may provide assistance in reaching customer service, though they come with a fee. It's a resource many have found helpful, but isn't the only option. Exploring gig work, as some have suggested, could provide temporary relief while navigating this system. Remember, persistence is key. Also, reaching out to local government representatives might expedite the process. Always ensure your information is current and double-check eligibility requirements to avoid any delays.

Been there, done that. You'll probably need to file a new claim if your benefit year has ended. Check your account online to see if you're eligible for an extension first tho.
