EDD Benefits Ending But Benefit Year Still Active - What Can I Do?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My benefit year is still active, but my benefits are ending. What can I do about this? Has anyone else dealt with something similar? Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, I've been there. It's so frustrating when you think you have more time left on your claim, but then suddenly it's like 'nope, sorry, you're done.' Have you tried calling EDD to see if there are any extensions available?

I've been trying to get through to them for days now. It's like hitting a brick wall every time I call. 😫

Yeah, their phone system is a nightmare. Keep trying tho, sometimes you get lucky if you call right when they open.

Pro tip: try calling on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. For some reason, it seems easier to get through on those days. Good luck! 🍀

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

I was skeptical at first too, but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

20 bucks tho? Thats kinda steep for just a phone call...

I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally talk to someone and get my issue resolved. Time is money, ya know?

Here's what you need to know about benefit years and benefit amounts: 1. Your benefit year is the 12-month period from when you first filed your claim. 2. The benefit amount is calculated based on your highest quarter of earnings in the base period. 3. Even if your benefit year isn't over, you can exhaust your benefit amount earlier. 4. Extensions are sometimes available, but they depend on current legislation and unemployment rates. 5. If you're still unemployed when your benefit year ends, you may be able to file a new claim. Your best bet is to contact EDD directly. They can review your specific case and let you know what options are available. Don't give up!

This should be pinned at the top of the subreddit tbh. So many people have questions about this.

Hey, don't lose hope! I was in a similar situation last year. Keep calling, and when you finally get through, ask about the following: 1. Any available extensions 2. Possibility of transitioning to PUA if you're eligible 3. Work search requirement updates Stay persistent!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'll definitely ask about those things when I finally get through. 💪

This whole system is broken af. Why do we even pay taxes if we can't get help when we need it? 😤

Preach! 🙌 The government takes our money but can't even answer the damn phone.

Calm down, Karen. At least we have an unemployment system. Some countries don't even have that.

Have you considered looking into job training programs? Sometimes EDD offers extensions if you're enrolled in approved training. Might be worth checking out!

I went through this exact same situation a few months ago! What ended up working for me was filing an appeal through the online portal - sometimes there are computational errors in how they calculate your remaining balance. Also, check if you qualify for any of the federal extension programs that might still be available. In the meantime, make sure you're still certifying for benefits even if it shows $0, because if an extension gets approved, you don't want to miss out on back payments. The whole process is super confusing, but don't give up! 💪
