Need help with filing a new UI claim while having an existing one - what should I know?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I've already got an existing unemployment claim, but now I need to start a new one for a different issue. Has anyone been through this before? What should I know about filing multiple claims? Any advice would be really appreciated!

I found a way to solve filing multiple unemployment claims, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YADDxNtfTag

Oof, that's a tough situation. I've been there before. The most important thing is to make sure you're clear about the dates for each claim. When did your new unemployment situation start? That's gonna be key for your new claim.

•Thanks for the tip! The new situation just happened last week. So I should use that date for the new claim, right?

•Yep, that's right! Use the date when your new unemployment started. Make sure you keep all the paperwork for both claims separate too. It can get confusing real quick if you mix them up.

•This is why the system is so messed up. Why cant they just have one claim that covers everything? 🤦♂️

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone to help with this kinda stuff. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

•It really does work! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. I only waited about 10 minutes after they connected me. Way better than the hours I spent trying to get through on my own.

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

•I get it, it sucks to pay. But for me, it was worth it to finally get my issues sorted out. Time is money, ya know?

Make sure you document EVERYTHING. Keep a record of all your attempts to contact them, any responses you get, and all the details about both of your claims. Trust me, it'll save you a headache later.

Here's what you need to know about filing multiple claims: 1. Separate dates: Each claim should have its own start date based on when each unemployment situation began. 2. Different reasons: Make sure you clearly explain the different reasons for each claim. 3. Report all income: If you're partially employed for one claim, report that income accurately. 4. Keep records: Maintain separate files for each claim with all relevant documents. 5. Be honest: Never try to collect on both claims for the same week if you're not eligible. 6. Communication: Inform the unemployment office about your multiple claims to avoid confusion. 7. Appeal rights: Remember, if one claim is denied, you still have the right to appeal. It's complicated, but stay organized and you'll get through it!

•This should be pinned to the top of the subreddit tbh. So many people have questions about multiple claims.

Have you tried calling the unemployment office? Sometimes talking to a real person can clear things up quickly.

•I've been trying for days, but I can never get through. It's always busy or I get disconnected. It's so frustrating!

•Pro tip: try calling right when they open. I usually have better luck getting through then.

I went through something similar last year and it was definitely confusing at first. One thing that really helped me was creating a simple spreadsheet to track both claims - I put down the dates, amounts, status updates, and any correspondence for each one separately. Also, when you file the new claim, be super clear in your application that you have an existing claim and explain why you need the second one. The EDD workers appreciate the transparency and it helps prevent delays or complications down the line. Don't stress too much - as long as you're honest about your situation and keep good records, you'll get through this!

•That spreadsheet idea is genius! I never thought of organizing it that way but it makes so much sense. Thanks for sharing that tip - I'm definitely going to set one up today. It's reassuring to hear from someone who actually got through this process successfully. Did you end up getting both claims approved or did you have any issues along the way?
