Need help backdating EDD claim - any success stories or tips?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I need to backdate my unemployment claim but I'm not sure how to go about it. Has anyone here had experience with this? What's the process like? I'm worried I might have missed out on some benefits because I didn't file right away. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, backdating claims can be such a headache. I had to do it last year and it was a total nightmare. Make sure you have a good reason for backdating, they don't just do it for anyone.

What kinda reasons do they accept? I'm in the same boat and worried they'll reject me 😰

From what I remember, things like medical issues, not knowing you were eligible, or technical problems with the website are usually accepted. But don't quote me on that lol

Yeah, and sometimes if there was a natural disaster or something that prevented you from filing. But they're pretty strict about it tbh

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone to help with this! I used this site called claimyr.com, it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda sketchy

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Can you give more details about how it works? Like, do you have to give them your personal info?

Nah, you just put in the number you want them to call and they do the rest. When an agent picks up, they connect you. Simple as that.

Listen up, cause I'm about to drop some knowledge on y'all about backdating claims: • First, you gotta have a legit reason. They ain't gonna backdate just cause you forgot or were lazy. • Common acceptable reasons: medical issues, not knowing you were eligible, website problems, or major events preventing you from filing. • You'll need to provide proof. Doctor's notes, screenshots of error messages, whatever you got. • Call the EDD (good luck with that lol) and ask for a backdating request form. Some states let you do it online now. • Fill out that form with ALL the details. Be specific about dates and reasons. • Follow up. A lot. These requests can take weeks or even months to process. • If they deny you, you can appeal. Don't give up! • Pro tip: Keep a paper trail of EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every form. Remember, patience is key here. The system's a mess, but if you stay persistent, you might just win this battle. Good luck, soldier! šŸ’Ŗ

Quick question - how far back can you typically backdate? Is there a limit?

0 coins

It varies by state, but usually up to a year. Some states might have shorter limits tho, so check your local rules.

Has anyone had luck backdating online? I've been trying to avoid calling because every time I do, I'm on hold for hours and then get disconnected 😤

Oof, I feel your pain. I tried online and it was useless. Ended up having to call anyway šŸ™„

Just a heads up, if you're thinking of backdating, do it ASAP. I waited too long and they told me I was past the deadline. Don't make my mistake!

Oh no, I'm sorry that happened to you. Do you remember how long the deadline was?

In my state it was a year, but I've heard it can be different elsewhere. Best to check your local rules!

Quick tip: If you're gonna try and backdate, gather ALL your documentation before you start the process. Pay stubs, layoff notice, emails, everything. Trust me, it'll save you a ton of headaches later.

Does anyone know if backdating affects your weekly benefit amount? I'm worried if I backdate, they might recalculate and give me less 😬

From what I understand, it shouldn't change your WBA. That's based on your earnings during the base period. But I'm not 100% sure, might wanna double check

@Keisha Johnson yes it can and you can end up owing edd

I actually went through the backdating process successfully about 6 months ago! Here's what worked for me: I had to backdate because I didn't realize I was eligible after being laid off (thought I had to wait longer). I called the EDD number every day at 8am sharp for like 2 weeks straight until I got through. The rep was actually really helpful and walked me through filling out the backdating request form. The key is having solid documentation - I had my layoff letter, emails showing I was looking for work during that period, and a letter from my doctor about some health issues that delayed me from filing initially. It took about 6 weeks to get approved, but I got all the back payments in one lump sum. Don't give up @Carmen Ortiz - it's definitely doable if you have legitimate reasons and stay persistent! šŸ’Ŗ

This is super helpful! Thanks for sharing your experience @Giovanni Mancini. I'm dealing with a similar situation - got laid off but didn't know I could file right away. How detailed did you have to be in explaining your reasons? And did they ask for any additional proof after you submitted the initial form?
