EDD claim denied - exhausted benefits but claim not expired. When to resubmit?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment claim. I filed recently and got notified that it's too early to process because my benefits were exhausted on a claim that hasn't expired yet. They told me to contact them again in a few days, but I'm not sure exactly when or how to resubmit. Anyone been through this before or have any advice?

Ugh, classic EDD nonsense. I swear they make it confusing on purpose 🙄 When did your last claim start? Usually, you gotta wait until the benefit year ends before filing a new one.

My last claim started about 10 months ago. So I guess I still have a couple months left before the year is up? But I'm out of benefits now, so I'm not sure what to do in the meantime.

Yep, sounds like you're in that awkward gap period. Unfortunately, you might have to wait it out until your benefit year officially ends. It sucks, but that's how the system works 😑

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes you can get an extension or they might have other options for you. Worth a shot!

I've been thru this exact situation! Here's what you need to do: 1. Wait until exactly 1 week before your benefit year ends 2. Call EDD and explain your situation 3. Ask them to file a new claim for you over the phone 4. They'll process it faster this way and you won't have any gaps in coverage Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed advice! This is super helpful. I'll definitely try this approach. Did you have any trouble getting through to someone on the phone?

No problem! Happy to help. And yeah, getting through can be a nightmare. I usually start calling right when they open and keep redialing until I get in the queue. It can take hours, but it's worth it to get it sorted.

This is solid advice. I did something similar and it worked out. Just be prepared for a loooong wait time on the phone. Bring snacks 😂

Have you checked if you qualify for any other types of assistance while you wait? Food stamps, rental assistance, etc. Might help bridge the gap!

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll look into other assistance programs. Thanks for the suggestion!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

I was skeptical at first too, but I can confirm it's legit. Used it twice now and got through both times. Saved me hours of frustration.

$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. Is it really worth it?

For me, it was totally worth it. Think about how much time you waste trying to get through on your own. Time is money, and this saved me a ton of time and stress.

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Keep a log of all your calls, who you talked to, what they said. It'll save you headaches later if theres any discrepancies or issues with your claim.
