Need help backdating UI claim - tips for talking to NYDOL agent?
Hey everyone, I need some advice. I filed my unemployment claim a few weeks ago, but I'm realizing now that I should have backdated it. Has anyone here successfully backdated their claim? What was the process like? Any tips on how to approach this when I talk to an agent?

I was in the same boat as you a couple months ago. Here's what I did: • Gathered all my documents showing why I needed to backdate (old pay stubs, termination letter, etc.) • Called the unemployment office (took forever to get through) • Explained my situation calmly and clearly • Provided specific dates and reasons for backdating It wasn't easy, but they did end up backdating my claim. Just be patient and persistent!

•This is really helpful, thanks for sharing! How long did the whole process take for you?

•It took about 3 weeks from when I first called to when I saw the backdated payments. But your mileage may vary 🤷♂️

•Did you have to provide any additional documentation after the call?

•Yeah, they asked me to upload some stuff to my online account. Just the usual - ID, proof of employment, that kinda thing.

•I found a way to get through! There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you, waits on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but it actually works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•I get the skepticism, but it's legit. They don't ask for any personal info, just your phone number to forward the call. Saved me days of frustration.

Make sure you have a good reason for backdating. They won't do it just because you want more money. You need to prove there was a valid reason you couldn't file earlier.

Has anyone tried explaining their situation through the online portal? I've heard mixed things about whether that actually works.

•I tried that route. Got a generic response after 2 weeks saying to call. Back to square one 🤦♂️

Pro tip: if you do get through on the phone, ask for a supervisor right away. Regular agents often don't have the authority to backdate claims.

•This! 💯 Supervisors have way more power to actually get things done

Anyone know if theres a time limit on how far back they'll go? I probably should have filed months ago but didnt realize I was eligible

•I think it varies by state, but most have a limit. In my state it's 6 weeks. Best to check your state's unemployment website for specifics.

Just went through this process last month! A few things that helped me: 1. Call early in the morning (like 8 AM sharp) - better chance of getting through 2. Have ALL your documentation ready before you call - dates of layoff, last day worked, any severance info 3. Be prepared to explain WHY you couldn't file earlier (was hospitalized, didn't know you were eligible, etc.) 4. Write down the agent's name and case number if they give you one The whole thing took about 2 hours on the phone but they approved my backdate request. Don't give up! The squeaky wheel gets the grease with these folks.
