EDD Work Share program payments showing but no Money Network card - how to access funds?
I started on my company's Work Share program about 3 weeks ago (they reduced our hours by 20%). EDD approved my claim and when I checked my UI Online account, it shows I have $840 available, but I haven't received any Money Network card in the mail! The weird thing is I didn't see any option to set up direct deposit during the application process either. I've already certified for 2 weeks but have no way to actually get my money. Called EDD 14 times today but just got the 'too many callers' message and disconnected. Has anyone else dealt with Work Share payment issues? How long should it take to get the card? Is there a different way to access these funds?

For Work Share programs, your employer actually files the certifications on your behalf, but you'll still get your benefits on a Money Network card like regular UI claims. The card typically takes 7-10 business days to arrive after your first payment is processed. If it's been more than two weeks since your first payment was processed (not just approved), you should call the Money Network customer service directly at 1-866-320-8699 to check if a card was sent out.

•Thanks for the clarification! It's been exactly 14 days since my first payment was processed according to UI Online. I'll try calling Money Network tomorrow. Do you know if there's a way to switch to direct deposit instead of waiting for the card?

•Actually, calling Money Network isn't enough. They'll just tell you if a card was issued but won't help with the underlying claim issues. OP needs to contact EDD directly since Work Share has its own special unit. The regular EDD reps often don't understand Work Share programs correctly and give bad info.

I received my card after 3 weeks, then had to wait another 4 days for the PIN to arrive in a separate envelope. So frustrating! If you get your card, you can transfer the money to your bank account through the Money Network mobile app after you activate it.

•3 weeks?! That's ridiculous. I didn't even know the PIN comes separately. Thanks for the heads up about the app though - at least there's a way to move the money once I finally get the card.

Work Share is handled differently than regular UI claims. You need to specifically contact the Work Share unit at EDD at (916) 464-3300. Don't waste time with the regular UI phone lines - they can't help with Work Share issues. Also, check with your HR department because they should have provided you with information about how payments work under the Work Share program. Most people don't realize that Work Share has its own processes and timelines.

•Thank you for the specialized number! Our HR basically just told us to apply and didn't give us any details about payments. I'll try calling that Work Share unit tomorrow. Hopefully they're easier to reach than the main EDD line.

THIS IS WHY I HATE EDD!!! They make everything 10x harder than it needs to be! My husband was on Work Share in 2023 and we had the EXACT same problem. We called for WEEKS and could never get through. His card showed up randomly after 5 weeks with no explanation. By then he had 4 payments on it. RIDICULOUS!!!

I had the same issue with reaching EDD about my Work Share benefits last month. After days of failing to get through, I used Claimyr.com to connect with an EDD representative in under 15 minutes. They have a service that navigates the phone system for you and calls you back when they reach an agent. There's a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD rep told me Work Share cards are processed in batches that go out every Tuesday, so depending on when your first payment was approved, you might have just missed a batch. You can also request expedited shipping of your card once you connect with someone.

•Thank you! I've never heard of this service before but I'm desperate at this point. I'll check out that video. Did they help you resolve your issue completely or did you still have to do additional follow-up?

•They got me connected to an actual EDD Work Share specialist who was able to see that my card had been returned to them because of a typo in my address. They fixed it and expedited a new card that arrived in 3 business days. Definitely worth it after wasting a week trying to call on my own.

Just to clarify some confusion in this thread - Work Share is handled by a special unit, but the payments themselves still come through the same Money Network system as regular UI. Once you get your card, you can: 1. Use it like a debit card 2. Transfer funds to your bank account through the Money Network app 3. Set up direct deposit for future payments For the direct deposit option, you'll need to access your Money Network account online after you receive and activate your card. Then you can enter your bank information for future payments. Unfortunately, there's no way to set up direct deposit before receiving that first card.

•This is exactly what I needed to know! So I have to wait for the card no matter what, but at least I can switch to direct deposit once I have it. Thank you for the detailed explanation!

Have you tried checking if the card was mailed to a different address? When I was on partial unemployment through Work Share in 2025, they somehow had my old address from 3 years earlier! Called for weeks with no luck getting through. Finally went to an EDD office in person and they told me the card had been returned to sender. Had to verify my address and request a new one. Complete waste of time.

•I hadn't even considered that possibility! My address is correct in UI Online, but maybe it's different in their card system? This is such a headache.

•I finally got through to the Work Share unit using that special number! Turns out there was a system flag on my account because my employer submitted something incorrectly. They fixed it and expedited my card - should arrive by Friday. Thanks everyone for your help!
