EDD PFL Decision Letter missing - Voluntary Plan Admin needs it, what to do?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. My company's Voluntary Plan Administrator is asking for a copy of my Decision Letter from EDD for my Paid Family Leave, but I never got one. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do? I'm worried about not getting paid and I really need this sorted out asap.

Anyone else feel like we need a support group for people dealing with EDD? 😂 We could call it 'EDD Anonymous' or something

Maybe try faxing them? I know it sounds old school, but sometimes it gets faster results than calling or emailing.

•What year is it, 1995? 😂 But for real, this might actually work. Government agencies love their fax machines.

•Lol, I don't even know where to find a fax machine these days. But if all else fails, I might have to track one down!

I feel for you, OP. The amount of stress this causes is unreal. Don't forget to take care of yourself while dealing with all this bs.

•Thanks for the reminder. It's easy to get caught up in all this and forget about self-care.

•For real. EDD stress is no joke. Take breaks, hydrate, maybe scream into a pillow once in a while 😅

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting for hours. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Here's what you need to do, step by step: 1. Gather all your claim information (claim number, dates of leave, etc.) 2. Call EDD directly. Be prepared for a long wait. 3. When you get through, clearly state that you need a copy of your Decision Letter for Paid Family Leave. 4. Explain that you never received it and your company's Voluntary Plan Administrator requires it. 5. Ask if they can resend it via email for faster delivery. 6. Get the name of the representative you spoke with and a reference number for the call. 7. Follow up with an email summarizing your request and the call details. 8. If you don't receive the letter within a week, call again or consider escalating to a supervisor. Remember to stay calm and polite, even if it's frustrating. Good luck!

•This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of all your calls and emails. It might come in handy if things drag on.

•Don't forget to ask for a confirmation number or some kind of receipt for your request. CYA always!

One thing to consider is the Claimyr service mentioned earlier in the thread. Although it comes with a fee, it can be a worthwhile investment if you're dealing with the frustration of getting through to EDD. However, it's important to weigh the cost and consider that for some, the conventional waiting might still be a viable option. It really depends on the urgency of your situation and how much you're willing to spend to potentially save time.

•Good point. It might be worth it if you've tried everything else.

•Oh man, I didn't even think of that! I'll check right now. Thanks for the tip!

Has anyone tried the EDD's virtual assistant on their website? I've heard mixed things about it.

•It's useless. Just spits out generic answers and never solves anything.

•Tbh I had some luck with it for basic stuff, but for something like this you def need a human.

Thanks for the advice. Any tips on what to say when I finally get through to someone?

•Be super clear about what you need. Tell them you never received the letter and your employer requires it. Ask if they can email it to you - sometimes thats faster than snail mail.

•Make sure you have all your claim info ready before you call. Claim number, dates of leave, etc. It'll make the process go smoother.

•Great advice, thanks guys! I'll definitely have all that info ready.

Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have better luck getting through.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help expedite these kinda things with EDD.

Mei Wong
•I hadn't thought of that. How do I find my assembly member?

Connor O'Neill
•Just google '[your city] assembly member'. They usually have a constituent services dept that can help with state agency issues.

Update: I called EDD this morning and was on hold for 2 hours before I got through. They said they'd resend the letter, but it could take up to 10 business days. Ugh. At least it's progress, I guess?

•2 hours? You got lucky! Glad you're making progress tho.

•10 business days?! That's ridiculous. Can they email it to you instead?

•I asked about email, but they said they can only send it by mail for 'security reasons'. 🙄 Bureaucracy at its finest.

This whole situation is so messed up. We shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to get a simple letter. The system is broken af.

idk if this helps but I wrote a strongly worded email and CC'd everyone I could think of at EDD. Somehow it worked and I got my letter within a week. Worth a shot? 🤷♂️

Ugh, dealing with EDD is such a pain. I had a similar issue last year. Your best bet is to call them directly and request a copy of the letter. Be prepared to wait on hold for hours tho 🙄
