EDD Money Network card delay - certified 2 weeks ago but still no card received
Stressing out about my boyfriend's unemployment situation. He applied for EDD benefits and got approved, then certified for his first payment on the 2nd. EDD told him they mailed his Money Network debit card, but it's been almost two weeks and NOTHING has shown up in the mail. Is this normal?? He's supposed to certify again this Sunday (the 16th) for his next payment period, but he still hasn't received his card with the first payment. How long should these cards normally take to arrive? Are they super backed up right now or something? I'm worried the card got lost or stolen from our mailbox. Should he call EDD about this or just keep waiting? Anyone else experience delays with their first card?

•Thanks! That's actually relieving to hear. We're on day 12 now so hopefully it comes in the next day or two.

The Money Network debit cards typically take 7-10 business days to arrive after your first payment is approved. However, mail delays can sometimes extend this to 14 business days. It's important to note that this is business days, not calendar days, so weekends don't count. Your boyfriend should continue certifying as scheduled this Sunday even if the card hasn't arrived yet - the payments will accumulate on the card. If the card doesn't arrive by the end of next week (which would be around 15 business days), then I'd recommend contacting EDD to report a lost/undelivered card. The funds aren't lost even if the card never arrives, they'll just issue a replacement card.

•That makes me feel a lot better! I didn't realize they meant business days, not regular days. So we probably still have a few more days to go. And good to know he should keep certifying regardless - I was worried about that.

my son went thru the EXACT same thing last month!!! he was worried too but turns out the card was sent from INDIANA not california so thats why it takes so long. he got his after 13 days so tell your bf to be patient!!!

•Oh wow, I had no idea they ship from Indiana! That explains the delay. 13 days isn't too bad then.

Tell your boyfriend to check his UI Online account. He should see when the payment was processed and the status. If it shows "paid" but no card, it's probably just mail delays. If it shows "pending" then the card wouldn't have been sent yet because the payment hasn't processed. Also, he needs to certify this Sunday regardless! The money will be added to the card when it arrives.

•Just checked with him and he says the status is definitely "paid" for those weeks. So it sounds like it's just taking a while in the mail. Thanks for the advice!

I've been through this nightmare 3 times with EDD! The cards are ridiculous. After waiting 2 weeks for mine, I FINALLY called and they told me it was returned to them because of an "address error" - even though they had my correct address! If I hadn't called, I would have been waiting forever. If you're tired of waiting on hold for hours trying to reach EDD, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They get you through to an EDD agent quickly without the frustration. They have a video demo on https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. Saved me when I was dealing with my card issues.

•Yes, it actually does! I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days. Got connected in about 20 minutes instead of calling for hours and getting nowhere.

This is very common. Money Network cards take 10-14 business days on average for first-time recipients. A few important points: 1. Make sure the address on the UI Online account is 100% correct 2. The envelope is plain and doesn't say EDD - many people throw it away thinking it's junk mail 3. You can check if the card was mailed by calling Money Network directly at 1-866-692-9374 4. If it's been more than 14 business days, you can request a replacement Your boyfriend should absolutely continue certifying this Sunday. All payments will be loaded onto the card once it arrives.

•Thank you for such detailed info! I'll have him double-check his address on UI Online and make sure he keeps an eye out for plain envelopes. I also didn't know you could call Money Network directly - that's super helpful if it doesn't come by end of next week.

•21 days?! Wow that's insane. But glad she got her money eventually. I guess we just need to be patient.

UPDATE: The card finally arrived today!! It was in a super plain white envelope that didn't look official at all. Thanks everyone for the advice and reassurance!

Great news! Now that he has the card, make sure he activates it right away and sets up a PIN. Also, many people don't realize you can set up direct deposit from the Money Network card to a bank account. It's often faster than waiting for the card to load after each certification. Glad it all worked out!

•That's a great tip about direct deposit! I'll let him know he can transfer the funds to his regular account. Thanks again for all your help!
