EDD payment issued text received but no Money Network card or check arrived - what now?

I'm completely confused about my husband's unemployment payment status. Last Tuesday he got a text saying "EDD Alert: Your payment has been issued." Then yesterday we received a new certification form in the mail. It's been 9 days since that text, but no Money Network debit card or check has shown up in our mailbox. This is his first unemployment claim ever, so we don't know if this is normal or if something's wrong. The EDD account online shows "paid" for the weeks he certified. How long should it take for the actual payment to arrive? Are we missing something? Has anyone else experienced this delay between the "payment issued" notification and actually receiving funds?

the first payment always takes longer cuz they have to mail the debit card. took like 14 days for mine to show up even tho the text came way earlier. check ur informed delivery on usps if u have it

Thanks! We don't have informed delivery set up. I didn't realize the card would come separately from regular mail. Is there a way to track the card specifically?

This is completely normal for first-time claims. The Money Network debit card is sent separately from a different facility than your regular EDD mail. Here's the typical timeline: 1. Certification gets processed 2. Status changes to "paid" in UI Online 3. Payment notification text is sent 4. Money Network card is prepared and mailed (this can take 7-10 business days) The new certification form you received is just for your next certification period - it's unrelated to the payment/card issue. If it's been more than 10 business days since the payment notification, you can call Money Network directly at 1-866-320-8699 to check the status of the card.

This happens to everyone!! The money is actually on the card already, you just don't have the physical card yet. My neighbor had the same thing happen last month.

OMG this EXACT thing happened to me in January!!! I got so worried that someone had stolen my card from the mail because the EDD website showed PAID but I had nothing for like 2 weeks!!! The EDD is THE WORST at explaining this to people. The first payment always takes forever because they have to create and mail the stupid Money Network card. After you get the card though, future payments show up on it pretty much right after the text. DONT THROW AWAY THE ENVELOPE when it comes - there's an activation code inside you need!!

That's good to know about the envelope! I'll make sure we keep everything when it arrives. Did they notify you when the card was actually shipped, or did it just show up?

The Money Network debit card typically takes 7-10 business days to arrive after your first payment is issued. Since it's been 9 days, it should arrive very soon. A few important things to know: 1. The card comes in a plain white envelope that can look like junk mail - watch your mail carefully 2. You need to activate the card immediately through the Money Network app or by calling the number on the sticker 3. Future payments will automatically load onto this same card 4. You can set up direct deposit to your bank account through the Money Network app once you receive the card If it doesn't arrive by day 12-14, then you should contact EDD to verify the mailing address they have on file and potentially request a replacement card.

Thank you for such clear information! This is really helpful. We'll keep watching for that plain envelope.

i had soemthing similar happen last yr but turns out they had my old address so the card got sent back!! check your address in the system ASAP. you might need to call and update it

We just moved about 4 months ago, but my husband updated his address when he filed the claim. I'll double check the address on the certification form we received to make sure it's correct. Thanks for the tip!

I went through this frustrating waiting game in February. The payment text comes from EDD, but the card comes from Money Network, which is a completely different company. The lack of coordination between them is insane. After waiting 12 days and getting nowhere with regular EDD phone lines (constant busy signals), I used Claimyr to get through to an EDD agent (claimyr.com). Their service connected me to an actual person who confirmed my card was sent but gave me the direct Money Network number to call. Saved me days of stress. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The agent told me first-time cards are taking longer in 2025 due to some verification process they added. Hope yours comes soon!

did u have to wait long with that claimyr thing? i might try it cuz ive been trying to get thru for days!!

Not long at all - I was talking to someone at EDD within about 20 minutes. Way better than the busy signals I kept getting on my own. Agent confirmed my card was actually in the mail system and should arrive within 2 days (which it did).

Just to clarify something important - the new certification form you received is normal and unrelated to your payment issue. EDD sends these forms regularly because you need to certify for benefits every two weeks. Your husband should complete this form for his next certification period, either by mail or preferably online through UI Online. Regarding the payment: Once the Money Network card arrives, you have three options for receiving future payments: 1. Continue using the debit card 2. Set up direct deposit to your bank account 3. Request paper checks Direct deposit is generally fastest for future payments once set up. You can make this selection in the Money Network account after activating the card.

Thanks for explaining about the certification form! I was wondering if it was related to the payment issue. He's been certifying online so far, so we'll continue doing that. Direct deposit sounds better than waiting for the card to load - we'll definitely set that up once the card arrives.

btw once u get the card u should move the money off it asap cuz those money network cards sometimes get frozen for random security checks and then ur stuck without ur $$$ for days ask me how i know lol

Yikes, that's concerning! We'll definitely transfer the money as soon as we get it. Did they give you any warning before freezing your card?

nope! just tried to buy groceries and card declined. had to call and do all this verification stuff. took 3 days to unfreeze it. just transfer the $$ to ur regular bank whenever it hits the card and ur good

Update for anyone finding this thread later: The standard processing time for a first-time Money Network card is: • 1-2 days for payment processing after certification • 1-2 days for EDD to transfer funds to Money Network • 7-10 business days for card production and delivery So you're looking at approximately 9-14 days total from certification to having the card in hand. This only applies to the first payment. After that, funds are available on the card within 24-48 hours after certification is processed. Also worth noting: The card is sent from Money Network in a plain white envelope with an Ohio return address. Many people mistake it for junk mail and throw it away, so check your mail carefully.

I appreciate this detailed breakdown! We're on day 9 now, so hopefully it arrives in the next few days. I'll be on the lookout for that plain envelope with the Ohio return address - thanks for that specific detail!
