EDD says payment issued but Money Network card not showing funds after 5 days - normal delay?

Hi everyone, I'm getting worried about my husband's unemployment payment. He previously collected EDD benefits in 2024 and still has his Money Network debit card. He filed a new claim this year (2025), which was approved after the standard waiting period. He certified for his first payable week, and UI Online shows 'paid' status for $532 as of five days ago. The problem is, nothing has shown up on his Money Network card yet! We checked the balance online and called the automated system - zero balance. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced longer delays with Money Network lately? I'm wondering if there's an issue with his old card or if we should contact EDD directly. We're counting on this money for our mortgage payment next week.

We've been checking the mail daily, nothing yet. I was hoping to avoid calling since it's nearly impossible to get through 😫

This is actually fairly common right now. There's been a processing delay between EDD showing 'paid' status and the funds actually being loaded onto Money Network cards. If he's using the same card from last year (within 3 years), he shouldn't need a new one. Here's what you should check: 1. Verify his address is correct in UI Online 2. Make sure the Money Network account is still active (cards can deactivate after long periods of non-use) 3. Check if his payment method accidentally switched to direct deposit If it's been more than 7 business days since the 'paid' status appeared, you should definitely contact EDD.

Thank you for the detailed response! We just checked and his address is correct in UI Online. How do we verify if the Money Network account is still active? It's been about 9 months since he last used it.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM last month!!! Called EDD for THREE WEEKS straight and could never get through. The website kept saying PAID but my card showed ZERO! Turns out they were sending me a new card even though my old one wasn't expired! The system is completely broken and nobody tells you anything. Check your mail because they probably sent a new one without telling you and the old card won't get the new payments!!

I had trouble reaching EDD when I had a similar issue with delayed payments. I started using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it helped me get through to an actual EDD representative in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The agent explained that sometimes there's a hold on the first payment of a new benefit year even when the system shows "paid" - especially if you're using a card from a previous claim. They released my payment while I was on the phone with them.

I've never heard of this service before. Does it really work? Seems like it might be worth trying since we're getting nowhere on our own.

Yes, it absolutely worked for me. The representative I spoke with confirmed that there's often a security verification that happens with the first payment of a new benefit year, especially when using an existing Money Network card. They have to match your previous claim information with the new claim, and sometimes it gets flagged for manual review.

I wish I knew about this sooner! Spent weeks trying to get through and my bills were late because of it. RIDICULOUS that we have to use services just to talk to EDD!!!

Have you guys logged into the actual Money Network website (not just UI Online)? Sometimes the card balance doesn't update in the automated system but does show in the web portal. Also make sure your husband's UI Online account payment method is still set to the debit card and not accidentally switched to direct deposit. I've been on unemployment 3 times in the past 4 years and sometimes the settings mysteriously change between claims.

We checked both the Money Network website and the automated phone system, but we'll double-check the payment method setting on UI Online. That's a good suggestion, thank you!

My situation was similar but different. Got approved, showed paid, but nothing on card. Turns out my benefits were being offset for an overpayment from 2022 that I didn't even know about! Check if there are any notices in your UI Online inbox about overpayments or penalties. Sometimes they take money from new claims to pay old debts.

Just checked the inbox and no notices about overpayments. I'm starting to think we might need to try the Claimyr service to get an explanation. This is so frustrating!

I'd recommend trying to contact EDD directly first. If your husband's previous claim ended more than a year ago, they might have automatically issued a new card, which can take 7-10 business days to arrive. Another possibility is that the payment is being held pending a quarterly wage review, which happens automatically at the beginning of new quarters. If you absolutely can't get through using the regular phone numbers after several attempts, then services like Claimyr can help, but try these steps first: 1. Call right when they open at 8:00 AM 2. Try the technical support line instead of the main line 3. Check if there's a message about the payment in your UI Online inbox 4. Verify the payment method is set to EDD Debit Card in the UI Online profile section

We've tried calling at 8:00 AM sharp for three days with no luck. Just keeps saying they're experiencing high call volume. I checked the UI Online inbox again and there's nothing about the payment there. We confirmed the payment method is still set to EDD Debit Card. I think we've exhausted all the DIY options at this point.

Update: I contacted EDD using Claimyr and got through in about 15 minutes. The representative explained that there was indeed a hold on the first payment of my new claim because I was using my card from last year. Apparently, they need to verify everything matches up between the old and new claim. The rep released the payment while I was on the phone, and the money showed up on my card about 24 hours later. Worth the time saved from trying to call repeatedly!

Thank you so much for the update! This is really helpful. We're going to try Claimyr tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed we get the same quick resolution you did!
