EDD Money Network Card never arrived but certification due - where will payments go?

Has anyone else been stuck in this Money Network limbo? I've been in the EDD system since October 2024 (5 months now!!) but STILL haven't received my Money Network debit card. My certification is due this Sunday and I'm panicking about where my funds will actually go if I certify. Will they just disappear into the void? Get held somewhere? I desperately need this money for rent. I've tried emailing EDD customer service twice last week and calling at least 15 times (always get the 'too many callers' message). No response whatsoever. Starting to feel like they're deliberately ignoring me. If I certify without having the card, will the money eventually load onto it when it finally arrives? Or should I wait to certify until I have the card in hand? I can't afford to have my benefits stuck in limbo for weeks!

Don't worry - your money won't disappear! The funds will be held in your EDD account until your Money Network card is activated. You should absolutely continue to certify on time, otherwise you risk delaying your payments further or potentially being disqualified for late certification. For the card issue, call the Money Network directly at 1-866-320-8699 to check on your card status or request a replacement. Sometimes they're sent but get lost in the mail. The Money Network is separate from EDD, which is why EDD hasn't been helpful.

Thank you so much for clarifying! I was terrified my payments would just vanish. I'll definitely keep certifying then. Do you know if there's any way to switch to direct deposit instead? This card situation is so frustrating.

That's a huge relief to hear! Did it take you the full 5 months to get your card too? This wait is killing me.

This is why the EDD system is COMPLETELY BROKEN!!!! I went through the EXACT same thing in December. Waited 3+ months for my card while bills piled up. Called hundreds of times and nobody helped. They can't even handle sending plastic cards correctly, how are they supposed to manage billions in benefits??? BTW - when my card finally arrived, the activation number didn't even work for two days. I had to call Money Network's separate customer service line to get it working. Just prepare yourself for more frustration ahead.

Ugh, that's so discouraging to hear but thanks for the warning about activation issues. This whole system seems designed to make us give up. Did you ever figure out why your card was delayed for so long?

Nope! No explanation whatsoever. The Money Network rep just said "there was a delay in processing" - whatever that means. They refuse to take any accountability.

After months of fighting with the EDD phone system and never getting through, I finally used Claimyr to connect with an actual EDD rep about my missing card situation. It got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing. Their video shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD rep was able to verify my card was actually sent to an old address (even though I'd updated my info), and they helped expedite a replacement. The website is claimyr.com if you're desperate to talk to someone who can actually check your specific card status in the system.

I've never heard of this service before. Did it actually work for you? I'm getting desperate enough to try anything at this point.

Yes, it definitely worked. I was skeptical at first but after two months of failed calls, I was willing to try anything. The EDD rep I spoke with pulled up my file and saw that my card had been returned to them because of an address issue. They were able to verify my current address and rush a new card. Had I not gotten through, I might still be waiting.

im confused... arent we still supposed to get Bank of America cards?? i thought money network was a scam?? my cousin got a edd BoA card last year??

No, EDD switched from Bank of America to Money Network in July 2023. Any new claims after that date get Money Network cards instead of BoA cards. It's not a scam - it's the official new provider. Your cousin probably filed their claim before the switch happened.

Have you checked if your address is correct in your UI Online account? When I was waiting for my card, I discovered that even though I had updated my address when I filed my claim, the system somehow reverted to my old address for the card mailing. Log into UI Online and verify your contact information. If it's incorrect, update it immediately and then call Money Network to request a new card to the correct address. Also, you can check if your payments have been issued by looking at your payment history in UI Online. If they show as 'paid,' the money is just waiting for you to activate a card.

I just double-checked and my address is correct in the system. My payment history does show two payments as 'paid' status from earlier certifications, so I guess that means the money is there waiting. I'm just anxious about how much longer I'll have to wait to actually access it.

My husband just went through this last month. He finally got his Money Network card after calling their direct number (not EDD) and requesting an expedited replacement card. Cost an extra $10 but was worth it to get the card in 3 business days instead of waiting who knows how long. Just make sure you've certified for all your weeks because the money will be there once you activate the card.

That's a great tip, thank you! I might just do that. $10 is nothing compared to the stress of waiting indefinitely. Did he need any special information when he called them for the expedited card?

Just his SSN, date of birth, and he had to verify his address. Pretty standard stuff. The Money Network people were actually much easier to reach than EDD.

One more important thing to know - once you do get your card, you can transfer the funds to your personal bank account through the Money Network app or website. You don't have to use the card for purchases if you don't want to. Just be aware there's a daily transfer limit (I think around $1000-1500). Some people miss this option and think they can only use the card directly, but direct transfer to your bank is much more convenient and secure.

That's incredibly helpful to know! I had no idea we could transfer to our personal accounts. That will make things so much easier once I finally get the card. Thank you!
