EDD Customer Account Number (EDDCAN) registration error - 'invalid information' message

Seriously frustrated right now. I got laid off from my warehouse job last week and I'm trying to set up my unemployment claim online. I created my UI Online account fine, but now I'm trying to register with my EDDCAN (that 10-digit number they sent me in the mail), and the system keeps giving me an error saying the 'information requested is invalid.' I've triple-checked the number, my SSN, and my date of birth, but it still won't accept it. Has this happened to anyone else? Do I need to wait a certain number of days after receiving my EDDCAN before I can register it? Or is the system just glitchy again? I really need to get my benefits going ASAP because my rent is due in two weeks.

This happened to me too back in January! Turns out the EDDCAN number isn't active immediately after they mail it. I waited 3 business days and tried again, and it worked perfectly. The EDD system needs time to fully process your claim in their database before that number becomes valid in their system. Super annoying they don't tell you this anywhere in the instructions!

Thanks for the info! That makes sense I guess, even though it's annoying. My letter came yesterday so maybe I'm just being impatient. I'll try again on Monday.

Make sure you're entering the EDDCAN exactly as it appears on your notice, including any dashes or spaces. Also, verify you're using the correct SSN format (with or without dashes depending on what the form requires). Another common issue is the date format - some EDD forms require MM/DD/YYYY while others use different formats. If you've triple-checked all that and it still doesn't work after 3-4 business days, you might need to contact EDD directly to verify your information is correct in their system.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've been trying different formats with and without dashes for both the EDDCAN and SSN. At this point I'll just wait a few days like the other commenter suggested and hope it starts working.

lol welcome to EDD hell my friend! nothing ever works right the first time. i had to call them like 20 times before i got someone who could help me with my account issues.

Ugh, that's exactly what I was afraid of. I've heard horror stories about their phone lines...

Had the SAME EXACT ISSUE last month!!! So frustrating! I kept getting the invalid info message and wanted to throw my computer across the room. After THREE DAYS of trying I finally called them (took forever to get through) and they told me there was a typo in my birthdate in their system!!! Check if all your info matches EXACTLY what's on the letter they sent you.

Oh wow, I didn't even think about that possibility. I'll double-check the letter against what I'm entering. Thanks!

I ran into this exact problem in February. After trying for days to get through on the phone, I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me connect with an EDD rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. The rep told me my EDDCAN wasn't properly linked to my UI Online account in their system, and they fixed it on the spot. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - saved me days of frustration!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try waiting a few days first, but if it doesn't resolve itself, I might have to try this. The thought of calling EDD repeatedly makes me want to cry.

is that service legit tho? seems kinda sketchy to me

Yeah, it's legitimate. I was skeptical too at first, but they just help you get through the phone system. The actual conversation is still directly between you and an EDD representative.

When i signed up last month I had same problem but turns out i was typing the letter O instead of zero in my EDDCAN. Those numbers can be really confusing on the paper they send! Double check if any of your digits could be misread as letters or vice versa.

OMG I think this might actually be it! Looking at my letter again, there's definitely a character that could be either a O or a 0. I'll try both versions when I get home tonight. Thank you!

Not to make this more complicated, but are you using the Customer Account Number from a previous claim? Because those expire and you need the new one they send you for each claim period. I got really confused because I kept trying to use my old number from 2023.

No, this is my first time ever filing for unemployment, so it's definitely a new account number. But thanks for mentioning that - good to know for the future that they change!

hey not to be that person but i heard they're adding a bunch of new identity verification stuff in 2025 so maybe thats why things are extra glitchy right now? my cousin works for the state (not EDD) and said all the systems are getting updates

Just a quick update from what I've seen recently - if you're still having trouble after trying the format suggestions and waiting a few days, there's one more thing to check. Make sure the name you're using matches EXACTLY what's on your Social Security card, not your driver's license or what you typically go by. EDD's system is very particular about this and will reject the registration if there's any mismatch, even if it's just a middle initial issue.

Update: It worked! It was actually two issues - I needed to wait a couple days AND I was confusing an O with a 0 in my EDDCAN like someone suggested. Finally got into my account and was able to certify. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! Glad it worked out for you.
