Can't register EDD Customer Account Number (CAN) - system says information is wrong
Just received my EDD Customer Account Number in the mail yesterday after filing my initial claim last week. I'm trying to register it in UI Online but the system keeps telling me my information is wrong! I triple-checked everything - using the exact CAN from the letter, my SSN, and my date of birth. Still getting an error message saying "The information you entered does not match our records." Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm worried about missing my first certification period if I can't access my account. Any tips on how to fix this registration problem?

•I got the letter yesterday afternoon, so it hasn't been 24 hours yet. Maybe that's it? I'll try again tomorrow morning and see if it works. Thanks for the suggestion!

Make sure youre not putting in any dashes or spaces in the CAN number. Also the DOB format matters - use MM/DD/YYYY exactly like that.

•I'm pretty sure I'm entering it correctly, but I'll double-check the format. The letter has the CAN with some spaces in it, so maybe that's causing the issue. Thanks!

I had this exact problem last month. There are three common reasons this happens: 1. The system needs 24-48 hours to fully process your CAN in their database after you receive the letter 2. You might be entering your name exactly as it appears on your ID, but EDD might have it slightly different in their system (middle initial, etc.) 3. Sometimes the CAN letter itself has a printing error (happened to my cousin) Try waiting until tomorrow, then call EDD if it still doesn't work. Use a fresh browser session (or try a different browser entirely) when you attempt again.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I didn't consider the name formatting issue. My ID has my middle name but I usually don't include it on forms. I'll try a few different variations tomorrow after the 24 hour period and see if that helps.

UGH the EDD system is SO BROKEN!!! I couldn't register my CAN for TWO WEEKS and missed my first certification period because of it! Then they had the NERVE to say it was MY fault! I ended up having to call them 47 TIMES before I got through. The rep told me there was a "glitch" in their system that was affecting accounts created in certain counties. RIDICULOUS!!

•omg 47 times?? thats insane!! did they at least let u certify for the weeks u missed??

•Yeah, they finally let me backdate the certifications, but I had to wait an EXTRA week for payment. Almost couldn't make rent because of their stupid "glitch"! 😤

If you're still having trouble after waiting 24-48 hours, you'll need to speak with an EDD representative directly. Unfortunately, their phone lines are extremely busy and most people have to call multiple times to get through. I recommend using Claimyr to connect with an EDD agent faster. It helped me get through when I had a similar registration issue. Their service calls EDD for you and then connects you when they reach a representative. You can see how it works in this demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Their website is claimyr.com - definitely saved me hours of redial frustration when I needed to fix my account access issues.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll wait the 24-48 hours first, but if I still can't get in, I might try that service. Spending all day redialing EDD sounds like a nightmare.

•I wish I'd known about this before I wasted an entire DAY calling them over and over! Is it expensive?

•It's actually quite reasonable for the time it saves. Much better than missing work hours or spending all day manually redialing. The website has current pricing details.

ok so i had this exact problem in january and it turned out i was using the wrong customer account number lol. EDD sends so many different letters and they ALL have numbers on them! make sure you're using the one specifically labeled as your "Customer Account Number" and not your claim ID or some other reference number.

Natalie Khan
•Oh wow, that's a good point! I'll double-check all my paperwork. They did send me multiple letters within a few days, so maybe I'm looking at the wrong one. Thanks!

One more important tip: When you do get registered successfully, immediately set up two-factor authentication and save your backup codes somewhere safe. I've seen many people get locked out of their accounts later in the claim process because they lost access to their phone number or email. EDD's account recovery process is notoriously difficult.

•That's great advice - I'll definitely do that. I'm actually planning to change phone carriers next month, so I need to make sure I don't lose access to my account during that transition. Would I need to update my phone number with EDD before switching carriers?

Kirsuktow DarkBlade
•Yes, absolutely update your phone number in your UI Online profile before changing carriers. And make sure to keep both your old and new phone active for at least a week of overlap if possible. The EDD system sometimes takes several days to process contact information updates.

I just went through this whole registration process last week! The trick for me was making sure I was using exactly the same name format as what's on my driver's license. My license has my middle initial but no period after it, and that's exactly how I had to enter it for the system to accept my registration. So if your license says "John A Smith" don't enter "John Smith" or "John Anthony Smith" or "John A. Smith" - it has to match EXACTLY.

•Thank you! I'll try matching it exactly to my license. Hopefully that plus waiting the 24 hours will solve the problem.

has anyone else noticed that the EDD website works better late at night? whenever i try to do anything during business hours it's super slow or gives errors. try registering around midnight, that's when i finally got mine to work

•YES!!! This is 100% true. Their system is completely overloaded during the day. I did all my certifications at like 2am and never had issues, but my friend who did them Sunday mornings always had problems!

•I'll give that a try tonight if my afternoon attempts don't work. Thanks for the tip!

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for all the advice! I waited 24 hours, tried registering again using my exact name from my license (including my middle initial without a period), made sure I had the correct CAN from the right letter, and it finally worked! I'm now able to access my UI Online account. I also set up the two-factor authentication right away like someone suggested. Really appreciate all the help!

So glad you got it sorted out! This is such a common issue and your post will definitely help others who run into the same problem. The 24-hour waiting period seems to be the key factor most people don't know about. I had a similar experience where I kept trying immediately after getting my CAN letter and got frustrated, but waiting that extra day made all the difference. Thanks for posting the update - it's always nice to see a success story on here!

This is such a helpful thread! I'm actually going through the same issue right now - got my CAN letter yesterday and can't register. Reading through all these responses, it sounds like the 24-48 hour waiting period is really common. I'm going to try again tomorrow morning and make sure I'm using the exact format from my driver's license. It's frustrating that EDD doesn't mention this waiting period anywhere on their website! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - definitely makes me feel less stressed about it.

•You're absolutely right about EDD not mentioning the waiting period anywhere! I just went through this exact same process last week and was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was wrong. The system really should display a message like "Please wait 24-48 hours after receiving your CAN letter before attempting to register" instead of just saying your information doesn't match. It would save so much stress and confusion for everyone! Hope it works for you tomorrow - based on all the success stories here, you should be good to go after that waiting period.

Just wanted to add another potential solution that worked for me when I had this issue a few months ago - if you're still having trouble after the 24-48 hour waiting period, try clearing your browser cache completely and using an incognito/private browsing window. I spent days trying to register and it turned out my browser was holding onto some old session data that was causing conflicts with the EDD system. Once I cleared everything and tried in a fresh private window, it worked immediately! Also make sure you're using a supported browser - I know some people have had issues with older versions of Internet Explorer or Safari.

•That's a really good point about the browser cache! I never would have thought of that. I've been using Chrome but I haven't cleared my cache in forever, so that could definitely be causing issues. I'll try the incognito window approach when I attempt to register again tomorrow. Thanks for sharing that tip - it's one of those technical solutions that's easy to overlook but can make all the difference!

This whole thread has been super helpful! I'm dealing with the exact same registration issue right now - got my CAN letter yesterday and kept getting the "information doesn't match" error. Reading everyone's experiences, it's clear that the 24-48 hour waiting period is crucial, but like others mentioned, EDD really should make this more obvious on their website. I'm going to wait until tomorrow and try again with the exact name format from my driver's license. It's reassuring to see so many success stories here - gives me hope that it'll work out! Thanks to everyone who shared their tips and solutions.

•This thread has been a lifesaver for me too! I'm in the same boat - just got my CAN letter today and was getting ready to try registering, but now I know to wait the full 24-48 hours first. It's crazy how many people go through this exact same issue and EDD doesn't provide any guidance about the waiting period. I'm bookmarking this thread to reference tomorrow when I try again. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and solutions - it makes the whole process feel less overwhelming when you know you're not the only one dealing with these system quirks!

This is such a valuable thread! I'm currently waiting for my CAN letter to arrive (filed my claim 5 days ago) and this gives me a great roadmap for when I try to register. Based on everyone's experiences, I'm going to make sure to: 1) Wait a full 48 hours after getting the letter, 2) Use my exact name format from my driver's license, 3) Double-check I'm using the actual CAN and not some other reference number, 4) Try registering late at night when the system is less busy, and 5) Use a fresh browser session. It's frustrating that EDD doesn't provide clear guidance about these common issues, but threads like this are a lifesaver for navigating their system. Thanks to everyone who shared their solutions!

•This is exactly the kind of preparation that will save you so much frustration! I wish I had known about all these tips before I went through the registration process. One additional suggestion - when you do get your CAN letter, take a photo of it with your phone as a backup in case you need to reference it later. I've seen people post about losing their letters or spilling coffee on them right when they need to register. Also, don't panic if it still doesn't work on your first try even after following all these steps - sometimes the system just has random glitches. Just wait a few hours and try again. You've got this!

This thread is incredibly helpful! I'm actually going through this exact same issue right now. Got my CAN letter this morning and have been trying to register for the past 2 hours with no luck - keep getting that "information doesn't match" error. Reading through everyone's experiences, it's clear that waiting 24-48 hours is key, which EDD definitely should mention somewhere on their site! I'm going to try again tomorrow evening using my exact driver's license name format and maybe late at night when the system isn't as busy. Really appreciate everyone sharing their solutions - it's so reassuring to know this is a common issue with actual fixes rather than something being wrong with my application. Will definitely set up two-factor authentication right away once I get in!

•You're definitely on the right track! I went through this exact same frustration just a few weeks ago. The waiting period really does seem to be the magic solution for most people. One thing I'd add to your plan - when you try again tomorrow, also make sure you're not copying and pasting anything into the form fields. I found that typing everything manually worked better than copy/paste, probably because of hidden characters or formatting issues. The late night approach is genius too - I had much better luck accessing EDD's site after 10pm when fewer people are online. Hang in there, you'll get through this!

Just wanted to share another tip that helped me when I had this exact same problem a couple months ago - make sure you're entering your SSN without any dashes or spaces. The system is really picky about formatting. I kept putting in XXX-XX-XXXX format like you normally would, but it only worked when I entered it as a straight 9-digit number. Also, if you have any special characters in your name (like apostrophes or hyphens), try it both with and without them. The EDD system sometimes strips out punctuation when they enter your info, so what's in their database might not match exactly what's on your ID. Hope this helps someone avoid the frustration I went through!

•This is such a helpful tip about the SSN formatting! I never would have thought about entering it without dashes. I've been struggling with this same registration issue for the past day and have been entering my SSN with the dashes every time. I'm definitely going to try the straight 9-digit format when I attempt again tomorrow after the waiting period. The special characters tip is really smart too - my last name has an apostrophe so I should probably try it both ways. Thanks for sharing these formatting details - it's exactly the kind of specific technical advice that can make or break the registration process!

Wow, this thread is amazing! I'm going through the exact same issue right now - got my CAN letter yesterday and have been banging my head against the wall trying to register. The "information doesn't match" error is so frustrating, especially when you know you're entering everything correctly. Reading all these responses has been such a relief - I had no idea about the 24-48 hour waiting period! EDD really needs to put that information prominently on their registration page instead of leaving people to figure it out through trial and error. I'm going to wait until tomorrow night and try again using all the tips from this thread: exact name format from my license, SSN without dashes, making sure I have the right CAN number, and using a fresh browser session late at night. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community is so helpful for navigating EDD's confusing system!

•I'm so glad I found this thread too! I literally just went through this exact same situation last week and it was driving me crazy. The waiting period really is the key - I tried probably 10 times on the first day with no luck, then waited 48 hours and it worked perfectly on the first try. One thing I'd add to all the great advice here is to also double-check that you're using the right website - make sure you're on the official EDD site and not some third-party site that might format things differently. Also, if you have multiple middle names or a suffix like Jr./Sr., try different combinations of including/excluding them. The EDD database can be really inconsistent about how names are stored. You've got all the right strategies planned out, so I'm confident it'll work for you tomorrow night!

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Got my CAN letter in the mail this morning and have been trying to register for hours with no success - keep getting that frustrating "information doesn't match our records" error. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly helpful and reassuring. I had no idea about the 24-48 hour waiting period - EDD definitely should make this clearer on their website instead of just giving a generic error message. I'm going to follow all the advice here: wait until tomorrow evening, use my exact name format from my driver's license, enter my SSN without dashes, double-check I'm using the correct CAN (not some other reference number), try late at night when the system is less busy, and use a fresh incognito browser window. It's so frustrating that we have to learn all these workarounds through community forums instead of having clear instructions from EDD, but I'm grateful for everyone sharing their experiences and solutions!

It's so reassuring to read through this whole thread and realize this is a super common issue with actual solutions. I was starting to panic that something was wrong with my claim, but now I know to just wait the 24-48 hours and try all these formatting tips. The fact that EDD doesn't mention the waiting period anywhere is ridiculous - they could save so many people so much stress by just adding one simple note about it! Thanks for posting, and good luck with your registration attempt tomorrow!

I'm going through this exact same issue right now! Just received my CAN letter yesterday and have been trying to register all day with no luck - that "information doesn't match our records" error is so frustrating! Reading through this thread has been such a lifesaver though. I had no idea about the 24-48 hour waiting period that everyone mentions - EDD really should put that information right on their registration page instead of making us figure it out the hard way. I'm going to wait until tomorrow night and try again using all the tips from this thread: exact name format from my license, SSN without dashes, making sure I have the actual CAN number and not some other reference number, and trying during off-peak hours. It's amazing how this community shares all these workarounds that EDD should really be providing upfront. Thanks to everyone for posting their solutions - gives me hope that I'll be able to get registered soon!
