EDD customer account number not working in system - getting 'information does not match' error

I'm totally stuck with this EDD account registration issue! I just got my letter with the customer account number yesterday (after filing my claim last week). I tried to register my account as instructed, but when I enter all the information, the system keeps giving me an error saying 'our information does not match the records in our system.' I've double-checked everything multiple times - my SSN, DOB, and the account number from the letter are all entered correctly. Has anyone dealt with this before? Is this a common glitch or did I do something wrong? Should I just wait until Monday to call EDD or is there another way to fix this? I'm worried about delaying my claim process...

This happens more often than you'd think. There are a few things to try before waiting for Monday: 1. Make sure you're using the EXACT name that appears on your EDD letter (for example, if your letter shows your middle initial but you entered your full middle name, it won't match) 2. Check if there are any spaces in the account number that you might have missed 3. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then restart your browser 4. Use a different browser entirely 5. Wait 24 hours - sometimes their system has a delay in recognizing new account numbers If none of these work, then yes, you'll need to call on Monday. The mismatch error usually means there's some tiny detail that doesn't align perfectly with what's in their system.

Thank you for the suggestions! I tried all of them but still getting the same error. I'm wondering if maybe I already registered when I first filed (it was late at night and I was tired). Is there a way to check if I already have an account without the customer account number?

omg i had the EXACT same problem last month!! so frustrating. turns out i had already registered when i filed initially but completely forgot about it lol. try clicking on "forgot password" instead of registering a new account - if your email is already in the system it'll send you a reset link

That's a good idea, I'll try the password reset option right now. Thanks!

Just to add some clarity here - the customer account number is different from your UI Online registration. When you initially file, you create online access credentials, but the customer account number letter comes separately and is used for different purposes (like calling in to their automated system or verifying your identity with representatives). The most common reasons for the "information does not match" error are: 1. Entering your name differently than how EDD has it in their system 2. Typos in your SSN (happens more than you'd think) 3. Using a nickname instead of legal name 4. System delay in processing your registration If you're still stuck after trying the password reset option, you'll need to call. Monday mornings are absolutely the worst time to get through to EDD though.

You're right! I tried the password reset and I DO already have an account. I completely forgot I set it up when I first filed. Thank you for explaining the difference between the online credentials and the customer account number - that makes so much more sense now.

If you DO end up needing to call on Monday, good luck actually getting through to someone. I spent 3 DAYS trying to reach EDD last month and kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message before they hung up on me. SO FRUSTRATING!! They need to hire more people or fix their stupid phone system!!!

I had the same issue with calling - I was getting nowhere for days. I finally used a service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. It basically keeps calling for you and alerts you when it gets through. Saved me days of frustration. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. Their website is claimyr.com - honestly worth it when you absolutely need to talk to someone at EDD.

The customer account number actually serves as an additional security measure. It helps prevent identity theft by requiring something beyond just your SSN (which unfortunately has been compromised for many people in various data breaches). But I agree the system could be more streamlined and user-friendly.

My cousin had this exact problem!!! She ended up having to call and the EDD person told her that her birthday was entered wrong in their system (they had the wrong year). So sometimes it's actually their mistake not yours. Definitely call if you can't get in.

UPDATE: Problem solved! I was able to log in using the password reset option since I had already created an account when I first filed (totally forgot about that). Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions! For anyone else with this issue, definitely try the password reset option before calling - it might save you a lot of time and frustration.

Great to see this got resolved! This is such a common issue that trips people up. For future reference for anyone reading this thread - when you file your initial claim, EDD automatically creates your UI Online account during that process, but they don't always make it super clear that you're doing both things at once. The customer account number that comes in the mail later is mainly for phone verification and certain other services. It's easy to forget you already have online access, especially when you're stressed about the whole unemployment process. Thanks for updating with the solution - it'll definitely help others who run into the same thing!

This is so helpful! I wish EDD would make it clearer during the filing process that you're creating the online account at the same time. I almost made the same mistake when I filed a few months ago - I kept looking for a separate registration link because I thought I needed to create a new account with the customer number from the letter. It would save everyone so much confusion if they just sent a simple email reminder saying "you already have online access, here's how to log in" along with that customer account number letter.
